OT WE 18 MAR 26 ~ Breaking wind

With a total of 65 wind turbines located in the waters north-east of Block Island, they have begun delivering
a designed output of 704 megawatts power to Rhode Island and Connecticut. The project was temporarily
halted by the Trump administration for "national security" reasons, but Ørsted (a Danish company)
and Skyborn Renewables ( a German company) prevailed in a federal court to continue development.
The administration was unable to provide any actual proof of their claims. Another defeat for Trump.
The obvious reason for his anti-wind crusade would be his oil and gas buddies do not like competition.
I am glad the project is almost complete. It may not lower our rates very much, but it does provide
an alternate source which has little impact on the environment. Goddess knows we have ample amounts
of wind here. Looking at gusts up to 60 knots as I write this. Now, the challenge is to upgrade the
New England Grid to better balance the supply available. That responsibility falls on the shoulders
of the utility company. I would like to see that operated by the state rather than a
profit motivated corporation. But I have doubts the state can do much better. We are rated very high
in the corruption department. Oh well. Kickbacks aside, overall it seems like a step in the right direction.
Anyway, this is an open forum so you are free to comment on anything that blows thru your head.

Hey there - good morning
.
Another middle of the work week has arrived.
Blowing thru time like there is no tomorrow.
Have appointments out of town today so will be
gone for the better part. First I have to fix a flat.
Always something.
Enjoy your challenges.

Trump, Hegseth & Co. are still pikers. They’re letting themselves be used as shills and patsies for someone else’s religion.
Anyone knows you’re not really world-class in the egomaniac division until you literally start your own religion, like Sun Myung Moon, the Falun Gong guy, the Rajneesh-Osho guy, or the Scientology guy L. Ron Hubbard.
Good morning...
We have an electric coop that buys all its power from TVA. TVA has several nuclear plants on the Tenn. River. I am seeing more solar panel fields typically adjoining industries.
China has been moving away from fossil fuels by generating more electricity. Electric cars and high speed trains make sense for them.
Be safe in your travels and thanks for the OT!

had a good 'almost' birds eye view of one of the
reservoirs used to generate electricity for the TVA.
It was huge. Believe it was started by FRD in 1933.
According to Wiki, it is the largest public utility in the US. Our local utility has changed names
several times - RI Energy, National Grid and Narragansett Electric before that. I think this
would be a good opportunity to nationalize resources as they cross state lines. But the private
slash public model of operating enterprises is a problem. Not true socialization by design.

Dunno if this is part of wind power
https://indepthnh.org/2026/03/17/iso-ne-change-upped-new-england-electri...
but I think the pricing of just about every thing is determined first by how much the CEO, CFO, COO and the board need for compensation and adjust product pricing to accordingly. They then use some of the companies cash for contributions to lobby politicians and give them breaks through legislation and then stiff shareholders and consumers. This enables them all to float away on wealth balloons and look down and say "look at all those little people down there, they look like ants! Where's the Raid!"
This post
is spectacular in its accuracy. Spot on!
Twice bitten, permanently shy.
Yes, It is a major scam.
.
Our local utility is required by the state regulatory body to break down
charges. It used to be the cost of supply was the majority of the bill.
Somehow, the cost of 'delivery' has grown way beyond past percentages.
The actual price of kWh has not changed very much. Add ons like
transmission charge, transition charge, distribution charge, renewable
energy distribution charge and others have increased the cost substantially.
Being held hostage to the local grid is a problem. Solar is looking more
sensible, except they credit your output at much less than market rates.
Like war, it is a racket.

I read that article
It sounds like so much gobble-de-gook. They are trying to confuse you.
A classic "Can't blind us with brilliance, baffle us with bullshit.
My electric bill is simple. They charge me 8.5 cents a KilowattHour. Plus a monthly service fee of $30.
Last month I used 664 Kilowatthours. With the service fee and local taxes my bill came to $88.
I can (as anyone) read my meter myself and check their figures.
My publicly owned power company provides me with 94% renewably sourced power. The other 6% is unknown sourced (rooftop solar, home wind, bio-generator, or private generators grid tied).
They are trying to pull a "Pelosi", "You have to pass the entire 2000 page bill to know what's in it" routine.
All basic services: water, power, trash pickup, roads and bridges, banking (through Post Offices), schooling (including college), defense industries, and the military should be nationally taxpayer funded and controlled through publicly funded legislators. Heavy emphasis on controlled.
Oh yeah, and Medicare for all through payroll deductions.

Good morning Cap'n Q. Thanks for the OT and music.
Sorry about your tire.
That second piece, piano, sounded great. Uesterday I included a version played by the author in in OT for the 23rd, and this is much better. Oh well.

Along with everything else, there was a fire on
the Gerald R Ford carrier that took 30 hours to put out and left something like 600 sailors without bunkd, forcing them to sleep on tables and the floor, etc. This causes me to wonder - Just who the hell decided to name a carrier after Gerry Ford anyway? Isn't that like naming the family car "great train wreck"?
I have just reminded myself that in times like these we all need to remember that the Universe is laughing behind our backs.

If you could exchange the Dollars you have in storage....

.... right now for simple gold (coins or bars) would you?
A: If I knew how to do it, and where to go, I would.
B: I've held Dollars for my entire life. The Dollar has always been the right choice.
C: I'm afraid to make any move, one way or another.
D: I already have gold stored. But, I am considering exchanging (stocks, savings, bonds) for more.
E: This is the wrong time to make new investments out of fear or panic.

Rhode Island
Before moving to RI, I was told it was THE most corrupt state in the country. One explanation I heard for this was that it’s incestuous due to being so small.
Anya
Probably not the case
.
Providence is the go-between for NYC and BOS mafias.
The way they roll is to play either side against the other.
They get a cut of the action coming and going. Wicked
corruption either way. The state is not that small. Mostly

@QMS I wonder if the
I wonder if the southern end of the state where you live may feel more normal than the Providence area. I may’ve lived there during a particularly bad era. For example, Buddy Cianci was Providence mayor. A book, “The Prince of Providence,” was written about him…”In 1984, Cianci resigned after pleading guilty to felony assault, for torturing a man he suspected of sleeping with his estranged wife. In 1990, in a remarkable comeback, Cianci was elected mayor once again…” In the early 2000’s the Feds brought close to 20 felony charges against him. I never heard an unkind remark about him. In fact, what I heard was that no jury in RI would ever convict him. As I recall, he was convicted of maybe one charge but all others dismissed. Another example, I lived in West Warwick, RI, in 2003, just a couple blocks from The Station, a small nightclub where about 100 people died in a fire. It was nationwide news at the time, probably remembered now only by Rhode Island. The nightclub owners, two brothers, had installed cheap wall covering to counteract noise complaints from neighbors. It was highly flammable. The nightclub had recently passed a fire inspection, apparently with a bribe to the fire inspector. Nevertheless he never faced charges. One of the two owners spent time in prison. He didn’t have a family, as I recall, but his brother did and so he took the fall.

New Year’s fire in Swiss nightclub resembled that W.Warwick fire

Station fire
Thanks, I remember now reading about that Swiss fire. It was said in 2003 that everyone in RI knew someone who was in that fire. When my sister in Oregon saw the news, she knew I wasn’t there because it wasn’t my type of music. I worked night shift at the Providence post office and that was one of my nights off. I was watching the local news which mentioned the fire. I walked outside and was glad I didn’t have to drive home from work because entrance to my complex was impossible, emergency vehicles lined up for blocks in both directions. I talked to someone who’d escaped. He said he tried to get out a back exit but a club employee wouldn’t allow it, it wasn’t a public exit. I worked with a woman who barely escaped. She was among a pile of people lying trapped in the doorway. People were walking along trying to pull her and others out but a man was wedged on top of her and she couldn’t move. She kept pushing on him as hard as she could and eventually was freed, with extensive burns on her backside. She was out of work for six months.

Yes there is a big difference between our rural environment
.
opposed to the urban reality of PVD.
Warwick, Cranston and other surrounding bergs
have some of the former character of the mill
society, now gone. The after effects now existent
is sad to experience. It was brought home to me
yesterday while getting lost in north PVD. I don't
get off the farm very much anymore for reasons.
You are not missing much by getting away.

Solar probably
doesn't work well there where you live. I could be wrong though. The deserts of the west are ideal for both and I'm seeing more and larger installations in my yearly western travels.
Thanks for the OT.

You are right
.
solar is not as strong an option
as wind hereabouts. But local
building codes all but prevent
erecting a turbine in the back yard.
It takes years to apply for permits.
Which will be legislated against in the
process. So no go.
Zionism is a social disease
China is floating turbines with helium
....(tethered to earth) which is hard imagine.... But recently I noticed ads for a mini home version — a small turbine you fill with party-balloon helium and float above your (off grid) home (on a tether) in order to generate and store power. It's still hard to imagine. But FYI. Lots of buzz among the rugged DYI crowd.
All that I can say..."FASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS" as things

The situation is quite fluid so it is difficult to keep up!
It has only just begun!
Gotta love those dancing drones

Very clever tech, there is no way air defense missiles can lock on to them.
No way to figure out where they will strike. And they are super fast as seen in
your video clip. I had heard of them but this is the first time I've seen them work.
