The faces of war.
I read a few days ago that the official death toll in Gaza had passed 70,000. I have no idea how accurate that is but I think it’s safe to say that number is low, and probably very low.
No one knows how many bodies still lie buried under the millions of tons of concrete that once were people’s homes, their libraries, their schools, hospitals, grocery stores, their communities. And I wonder if that official count even includes the children that to this day are dying from malnutrition in the refugee camps. Or those that succumb to sickness and disease brought on by the horrible conditions in those same camps?
I also read that 80% of those counted were civilians. My brain doesn’t work as well as it once did but by my count that would mean that around 56,000 Palestinian civilians were killed. That’s getting pretty close to the number of Americans soldiers we lost in Vietnam. Americans got kind of upset about that, and I was one of them., but I’m not seeing that same kind of outrage over what we’re doing in Gaza, not in the numbers we had in the anti war protests back then. The difference being of course the 56,000 Palestinian deaths I speak of weren’t American soldiers. They were unarmed non-combatants, mothers and fathers, children and babies, grandma’s and grandpa’s.
It sickens me that my country is supplying the weapons and money to carry out this monstrous war.
With Vietnam we the people stood up, we the people marched in the streets, we raged against the machine if you will and it took a long time but eventually we the people got that stinking war shut down. I hope we can find that kind of energy now but I fear that a lot of people are just worn down to the point of hopelessness. I have to fight off those feelings myself and it’s getting harder every day. I doubt I’m the only one.
Anyway, I don’t see much real coverage of Gaza on the tv so I grabbed a few pics off the internet that you’ll most likely never see on the six o’clock news. I hesitated posting these because they’re so painful to look at. I just felt like I needed to. I know they're very hard to look at but if you're strong enough please slow down your scrolling a bit and take the time to look into the faces of these people. But be warned, it may break your heart.

I'd love to see these pics on every bill board in America.

Kind of late in the day
but I'll go ahead and publish now, might be other night owls out there.
This site is the best and has been since day one.

I wrestle with myself
over how much energy I can expend on indignation. As far as abstract "opinion" goes, I agree with you and Caitlin Johnstone about how horrible this abomination is. And I would join a march or a rally if somebody organized it in my community. I've done it before in my union work, and I wish I had the combination of gumption and active connections to organize events here in Los Angeles.
But I am retired. Philosophically, I am outraged. Physically, I am an observer.
I suspect that there are quite a few baby boomers like me who have one excuse or another for sitting in front of a flat screen, deploring this situation quietly.
This is not to disagree with this thread.
I cried when I wrote this song. Sue me if I play too long.
My marching days are all behind me too,
Hate it but have had to accept that fact. I find watching from the sidelines harder than joining in the fray, especially when you're getting tromped. Thanks fwf!

The problem from an American perspective
People here are still too busy pretending we have a democracy while voting for either of our two pro-AIPAC political parties.
If we want to do something about genocide -- you know, before we are genocided ourselves -- then we must organize some sort of uprising against our two pro-AIPAC political parties.
"It hasn't been okay to be smart in the United States for centuries" -- Frank Zappa
I don't see much sign of that happening but still hopeful.
As for people pretending we have a democracy, not sure about that, I suspect most Americans really believe we still live in a democracy, brainwashing works. But the knuckle dragging goons currently in the pilot house are so blatantly chipping away at what's left of it that I'm cautiously hopeful an awakening is coming. Thanks Cass!

It is going to require
that a whole bunch of younger (sub-40-year-old, perhaps) people get on board- there are many more of them than there are geezers like me.
One problem is that very few of them have any interest in listening to the senilescent ravings of a geezer.
Another problem, and perhaps a worse problem, is that too many of them appear to be perfectly content with how things are, or worse yet have happily swallowed the Trump Youth brownshirt kool-aid. So, the propaganda machine would appear to have succeeded in spades.
I do not know how to counter that juggernaut. It will not end well.

Bernie is reaching a lot of young people
they're listening to him. Folks can say what they want about him but there is no-one out there trying harder or doing more to shine a light on oligarchy than he is. He's not getting much help, he never has. But he keeps punching anyway.
Missouri is bright red and will likely remain that way for a long time but even here in an extremely conservative county not all the kids are climbing on the trump train.
Our youngest grandchild lives with us and just turned 18, She certainly isn't swallowing trumps garbage. She tells me that she and her friends are well aware of the mess we're in. They're much better informed than most of us were at that age. They realize our political system is broke and many of them understand why. But just like us they don't know how to fix it.
But at the same time they have to live in this world as it is and not as they'd prefer it to be so out of necessity most of their time is spent just staying one step ahead of the bill collectors, keeping their rent paid and lights turned on.

That's good news.
Here in this part of CO, which is a battleground between the red team believers and the blue team believers, there's a lot of politicking in the schools. And that definitely influences some of the young folks. Representatives of the teams believe that if they can convince the kids one way or the other, the kids will then go convince their parents to vote out whichever school board members appear to harbor the wrong philosophical leanings, at least as far as that team's internal rules are concerned. That is why we have school board elections about every 6 months around these parts, with recalls and mud-slinging and all of that silliness, as each team eternally tries to gain some imaginary advantage (as opposed to, say, working together towards a shared goal). It is sad to watch.
I put in my time on the Bernie train, and chronicled the end of that here at the time. Now, I simply intend on continuing my habit of voting only for people who are not owned by either team. Maybe some more of them will show up, so that a viable third party might arise. And perhaps more of us mere frogs will, at long last, begin to realize that the water is starting to boil, as they struggle to keep the rent paid and food on the table. One can always hope...

Running on empty
I get that. I call it battle fatigue. I feel it all the time. I think that's all part of the plan, to wear us down with never-ending assaults on our senses, one insane act on top of another. Non-stop rapid fire insanity until we're too numb to care and too exhausted mentally to fight. I may be too dumb to know when I'm licked so still doing what I can no matter how insignificant it seems. Thanks for the Dylan!

One thing is for certain,
you won't see these photos of the reality of genocide in the MSM, but you can see the Bondi victims and read their bio. they matter. Gazans do not.
I may not be much of a protester, but I damn sure spend wisely and with a clear conscience.

You're right.
MSM only shows us what they want us to see. They learned their lesson when they let us watch Vietnam unfold and we started complaining. They won't make that mistake again.
But the truth is always out there if people are willing to look for it. Most folks are content with the spoon-fed armchair version they get on there telly.
Spending wisely and with a clear conscience is a great but sadly under-used tool which could do some real good if it could be be implemented in a concerted effort, easier said than done. Thank you otc!

Thanks for posting those photos
They are hard to look at, but I force myself to study them.
Studying them steels my resolve to not become an indifferent, uncaring modern day Christian in name only, a CINO.
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.
No shortage of CINOs out there,
, they played a major role in where we are today. Thanks for looking at these photos earthling!. I know how painful it is.
