Open Thread - 09-12-2025 - Conspiracy Theories

Morning. I am back for a few weeks to to entertain you with my quirky view of the world. As I have been puttering around the farm thoughts of conspiracy theories dance through my head. When did this habit start? I have tracked down the source. It started mid seventies in the 8th grade...

To be specific in the general math class held right after the lunch break. Half the class was generally nodding off at their desk. "Today after we solve this formula we are going to take a break and I will read from this new book I started Atlantis Rising by Brad Stiger." It was about a subterranean civilization of inner earth that may still exist. As the weeks went by the class became faster at solving the formula on the chalkboard so there was more time to listen. Then we moved on to discussing current newspaper and magazine articles on Sasquatch (Big Foot), Loch Ness, JFK assassination and other oddities. The focus on keeping an open mind, evaluating new information as it became available and reassessing current hypotheses.

It was suggested to our class we were now old enough to start developing the adult habit of reading the newspaper daily, beginning with the comics and editorial page. It did no take long to realize the political comics were funnier if one was up to date with the local and worldwide events.

Sometimes life throws at you experiences or knowledge that if brought up in polite society that will get one labeled gullible conspiracy theorist. If you are interested we could explore a few over the next few weeks or simply stick with current news. Oregon attracts interesting people.

Personally not a fan of nuclear energy due to long term waste disposal. No I do not think keeping radio active waste in pools of water or burying deep underground are safe long term solutions. This current process developed in Russia is intriguing. Solution found, maybe.

Russian Breakthrough Paves Way for Safe, Efficient Spent Nuclear Fuel Disposal Sputnik International July 15. 2025

The disposal of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) remains a significant global challenge. In Russia alone, approximately 650 tons of radioactive waste are removed from nuclear power plant reactors each year.
Most of this waste is simply buried, with only around 15% being reprocessed. However, scientists from St. Petersburg have developed a groundbreaking technology for reprocessing spent nuclear fuel (SNF) and deactivating nuclear power plant components, including irradiated reactor graphite—a material that has become a significant global obstacle to the advancement of nuclear energy.
...
A Unique Solution: Ion-Plasma Technology
The breakthrough technology developed by Dr. Petrovskaya’s team is based on ion-plasma and ion-thermal reprocessing methods. This technology avoids the generation of liquid radioactive waste by atomizing spent fuel in an inert gas atmosphere using a shortened plasma discharge. The atoms are then separated based on differences in condensation temperature, achieving a remarkable efficiency of 99% in separating chemical elements like uranium and plutonium.

“This method allows us to separate every element individually, unlike existing plasma centrifuges that can only divide spent nuclear fuel into two fractions: heavy and light,” Petrovskaya explains.
The technology, she notes, is also highly cost-effective, with operational expenses estimated at only $20 per kilogram of fuel.

Reusing and Reducing Radioactivity

Once separated, the fissile elements like uranium and plutonium can be reused to create new nuclear fuel. Other highly radioactive components, such as strontium-90, can be directed for "burning" in fast neutron reactors, transforming them into stable or short-lived isotopes and thereby reducing the overall volume of radioactive waste produced by nuclear energy.

Global Impact
The technology has far-reaching implications beyond Russia. Dr. Petrovskaya suggests that it could be particularly beneficial for dealing with the aftermath of the Fukushima-1 nuclear disaster, where massive amounts of radioactive waste need to be deactivated.
"For Fukushima, existing technologies offer little help due to the damage caused by melted uranium," she says. "But with our technology, we could effectively address the deactivation of radioactive metal structures, which could be of great assistance to Japan."

Another setback of implementing a national biometric data system in Mexico

Yucatan Court Suspends Biometric CURP over Private Data Concers. Yucatan Magazine Sept 1, 2025

A Federal tribunal in Yucatan has suspended the Mexican government's requirement that citizens provide biometric data for the new Biometric CURP system. This move joins similar legal challenges mounting across the country as privacy advocates contest the mandatory collection of personal biological data.
...
What Is Biometric CURP?

Under the new law, the CURP will incorporate biometric data, including a facial photograph and fingerprint templates, replacing its former status as a purely alphanumeric code. The enhanced system will include iris scans, all ten fingerprints, and facial recognition data encoded in a QR code.

The original CURP, introduced in 1996, is an 18-character code used for tax filings, school enrollment, passport applications, and other government services. The biometric version transforms this into Mexico’s universal identification document, both digital and physical.

The reform establishes that the new CURP, which will include fingerprints and photography, will be the mandatory national identification document throughout Mexico. These changes are designed to facilitate real-time cross-checks between government databases, providing authorities with more precise tools for identifying individuals.

Portland, Oregon is at risk for increased federal law enforcement again. This article covers the timeline of the current sequence of events.

ICE protests are nothing like 2020. So why is Trump floating a Portland crackdown? The Oregonian Sept 10, 2025

Compared with 2020 protests, the gatherings around the ICE facility are small. But Trump’s statements — coupled with the Portland Police Bureau’s relatively hands-off approach — could be what opens Portland to federal intervention.

The president has followed through on similar statements to send troops and federal agents into Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and now agents have been sent to Chicago to conduct immigration sweeps.
...
Here’s how events in Portland have developed to this point:

June 2: Federal authorities arrest an asylum-seeker at Portland’s Immigration Court. Observers believe it to be the first such arrest in Portland in Trump’s accelerating immigration dragnet.
...
June 8 — June 13: Portland police clear a barricade protesters had set up in front of the ICE building. The next day, Police Chief Bob Day says officers will no longer help clear barricades and “will not be engaging with any kind of perceived or actual support of vans or transports or anything of that nature.”
...June 19: The last time Portland police make an arrest in the protests, bringing the total to 25.
...
Aug. 14: Multnomah County Senior Judge Ellen Rosenblum, a former Oregon attorney general, rules police aren’t required to enforce noise rules at protests outside the ICE facility.

Aug. 20: Homan visits Portland’s ICE facility. In a message posted to social media platform X, Homan says he visited to let agents “know that President Trump and I have their six” — a reference to having someone’s back.
...
Sept. 1: Following a large protest downtown, over 100 people march from a nearby park to the ICE building. Some protesters bring a makeshift guillotine. Federal officers deploy chemical gas and pepperballs at the crowd.
...
Sept. 8: The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 26 people have been charged with federal offenses at the ICE building since June 13.

Charlie Kirk was personally known to a wider range of news reporters, podcasters and politicians than I had realized. The shocked grief on many faces is not acting and the emotion is often raw. The assassination also seems to have brought into focus it could happen to them. The creation a false narrative will be more difficult.

That teacher of yours went way above that call of duty for you youngsters, and being quirky in your world view is a blessing!
I started questioning the tenets of The Bible and Christianity by age 3. To this day, I still find it completely contradictory and and the premise that an all-powerful God who can't eradicate The Devil and all evil has never been explained to me. The clever way the Sunday School teachers shut me up was to appoint me to play the piano, so by age 7, I had busy hands, couldn't raise one to ask yet another question that would result in this response: Just have faith.
By the year 1969, even the most conservative universities were sliding towards the "radical" ideas about questioning the narratives. Grains of salt were generously consumed.
I close my office at 2pm on Fridays, so I can get in more "news" consumption in the afternoon than usual. Kirk warned that he was going to endanger himself by breaking with the Zionists, even hiring body guards recently. But the mSM says it was a radical leftist, and that is what we are supposed to believe. US civil unrest is the best thing that could happen to free up Israel to genocide a few million Palestinians without comment from we, the people.
Oh, well, it's Friday!
Thanks for the OT, dear friend!

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981

studentofearth's picture

@on the cusp My learning path of Christianity was very different. My parents did not attend services and my Great Grandmother convinced them to let her take charge of guiding a spiritual path. Started attending the Nazarene Church Sunday school at 6. Teachers covered stories found in children books of biblical works. Sang songs, did crafts, practiced roles for short performances presented to the adult congregation and always had snacks. Memeories bring on the feeling of warmth, love and safety.

Any scripture questions were answered by Great Grandma while waiting for my ride home. She gifted me a King James Bible when I was eight. Prior to then I borrowed one of her New Testament Bibles. She had multiple translations of the Bible.

At 10 was presented with the choice to continue spending Sunday mornings at Church or do something else and come back to a Church of my choice in the future. I chose free time. Recently learned the break was normal in some Quaker traditions. Geneology studies revealed the family line were Quakers for multiple generations.

Read the New Oxford Bible as a novel, beginning with page 1, in college for a World Religion class. No faith required, enjoy the prose and by then an adult mind understands contradiction is part of life. Years later all of Great Grandmas bibles found their way to my shelves. Set them out on a table and read them simultaneously. I am never going to debate someone on "what the Bible says" unless I know what translation they are using. Significant differences.

When I was last writing in early 2024 no hint of less than a perfect Israel could be discussed. Our conversations are evolving.

@studentofearth
Like you, my first indoctrination to Christianity began in the Church of Nazarene at about age 5. Sunday school was sometimes ok, except when a certain SS teacher was there as she was rather cranky and a little overbearing.
Once, unbeknownst to her, I left the classroom and went in search of my parents in the main chapel. There I found myself witnessing people rolling on the floor, speaking gibberishly, and rocking back and forth crying and wailing.
Scared the crap outta me! Refused to go back to that place again.
Years later, after I was married, I was talked into going to the sister-in laws church, the Pentecostal Church of God and witnessed the same behavior and was extremely pressured to join in "be saved".
I again vowed to avoid that kind of experience.
Then, the Jim Jones debacle made the headlines and I could only pat myself on the back for making the right decision. Koresh and the reverend Moon cemented what my instincts screamed to me.
Stay the eff away from those places.
Thanks for the OT.

@earthling1 It is interesting you now live close to where the Church began its transition into the international organization it is today.

The process of internationalization, a deliberate policy of being one church of congregations and districts worldwide, rather than splitting into national churches like earlier Protestant denominations started in 1964 at the General Assembly in Portland, Oregon. With the founding parents of the church gone, the next generation of leaders struggled with interpreting the vision they were given. These main struggles dealt with speaking in tongues and legalism, which the majority of churches that broke away from the Nazarene church doing so in the 1960s.

The impact on my life was very different it provided the foundation for developing self importance with responsibilities and a self directed spiritual journey which included understanding many belief systems.

again this morning. So, that's something.

The leaves on the trees are beginning to turn, around these parts- that chilly day last week that gave us snow on top of Pike's Peak and the other fourteeners speaks of a relatively early fall. If the conventional wisdom of "first frost will be 6 months after the first spring thunder" holds true, our first frost will be next week.

If this is the shooter, and if he *isn't* an official card-carrying representative of the Zionist entity, I doubt that he will make it to trial. They'd have to let a Mossad guy go under one pretense or another, but this guy they can suicide with no undesirable side effects. Boy, are the rightwingers having a field day with that news.

The remaining question will be "is he just another patsy, and if so, for whom?". I tire of all of this.

How do idiots and psychos keep getting elected to the highest official positions?

of those drones on the ground and they look somewhat intact, but with nosecones duct taped on and other parts flimsily put together. They appear to be unarmed Russian decoy drones pieced back together and possibly flown across the border to look like a legitimate attack. But those Russian drones only have a range of 700 klm and could not possibly reach Poland from any Russian controlled territory.

Senate Republicans defeat Democrats’ effort to force the release of Epstein files AP Sept 10, 2025

In a close vote, Senate Republicans defeated an effort Wednesday by Democrats to insert language into Congress’ annual defense authorization bill that would have forced the public release of case files on the sex trafficking investigation into the late Jeffrey Epstein.

The Senate voted 51-49 to dismiss the changes to the bill, with Republican Sens. Josh Hawley of Missouri and Rand Paul of Kentucky joining with all Democrats in opposition.

There is a growing recognition in the Conservative Press the big picture is about blackmail.

a load off of old whatsisname. He's got more than enough on his plate right now.

Conspiracy theories have been given a bad name and an unfair deal due to the constant misuse of the term. It haw got so bad that the official definition is shifting toward something with a much broader scope. First, there must be some invocation of a conspiracy. Over at the Great Orange Satan, they outlawed them, and since the goal of most people there was not to discover or disclose facts and reality but to win arguments, hordes of mediocre rhetoricians were always calling anything and everything they disagreed with a "conspiracy theory" even where none was invoked. So, first basic element.

A narrative which asserts that soemthing existed, occurred or happened (in the manner in which it did) due to a conspiracy of persons (including agenies and corporations) OR that the truth of some event of thing is being suppressed or covered up due to a conspiracy of ators.

Also, said narrative must contradict or disagree in major particulars with something well and widely known to be true. This is a crux. Current definitions try to soften this to a narrative that contradicts or disagrees with some much more probable narrative. Y=This is very likely to simply be taking cognizance that there is, in an empirical world, a lack of absolute certainty with respect to most things, but it introduces too much vagueness and indeterminism. We can all accept that "known" means "known with reasonable certainty", allowing the waffle room required by strict empiricism without opening the door to anything goes.

If one then eliminates things supported in whole or part by classical fallacies and more well known cognitive biases, most "conspiracy theories", even those involving or invoking one or more conspiracies, simply evaporate. For example, multi-shooter theories about the Kennedy Assassination cannot be conspiracies because the single shooter theory, especially all of the magic bullet variations are supported by nothing but the pronouncements of a government committee. Most things that are treated as well known today aren't, they are based on argumentum ad vericundiam and other fallacies.

be well and have a good one

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --

I was ten years old when Jack Kennedy was shot to death about nine or so miles away from my elementary school. My parents and grandparents were at the convention hall where JFK was scheduled to speak. I will never forget the surreal nature of that weekend as TV presented us the Guilty motherfucker before dinner time on Friday. This guy in turn got shot dead on Sunday morning, by a guy my parents knew personally but did not recognize his real name which came out on network TV within a half hour of his hit job -- "Rubenstein." Before the next commercial the boob toob updated the identification to his adopted street name: "Jack Ruby."

My father was a union boss and a regular gambler at poker, gin rummy and pro sports. He knew his way around the underworld and he could tell you who was a "hard guy' and who was a bag of wind. Jack was not a hard guy.

At age ten, I did not have a frame of reference for all this heavy shit. So as a nerdy politics junky, I took the story as fact. The lonely weirdo killed the President because he was weird.

I firmly believed that anybody who questioned the FACTS had to be either insane or up to no good.

I began my transformation in the year 1972 when Mort Sahl made an appearance at he community college where I was a freshman. I came to his show for the comedy which was funny enough for the first half of his presentation. I was knocked for loop by his second half -- a rap on the Assassination and the work of Jim Garrison.

He did not seal he deal with me, but he got me thinking.

I got a copy of Garrison's book, A Heritage of Stone. It knocked my socks off. That summer I transferred to the University of Texas at Austin and I was able to access the full text of the Warren Report at the University Library, and I spot checked 100 of Garrison's footnotes. Every one was on the dime accurate, and I became a Conspiracy Analyst, along with Sahl.

It is always the Big Picture that provides the clues. Some ex-marine who was taught to speak Russian by the Marine Corps does his time and decides to emigrate to Russia. A number of months later, he decides to come home and waltzes through customs without a hicccup. Then he gets himself on local TV news explaining his brand of Marxist Theory to the Louisiana television audience.

This story is too preposterous to be true. The rest is history.

In our post-objective reality political culture, it is of course impossible to know for sure how much if any truth is in this tale. But it is an interesting development that this perspective is finding its way onto millions of computer screens.
