Album of the Week 5-3-25
Afternoon folks!
There's some great tunes here for you this week, starting with one of my favorite blues guitarists, Earl Hooker who was an amazing slide player and inventive player generally. After that we've got what I think is blues harmonica player Little Sonny's best album, a good listen. After that, Roy Buchanan, an amazing guitarist at the peak of his career, 2 sets recorded live. After that are albums from DC area guitarist, Tom Principato and one from John Mooney an interesting slide player who studied with Son House. Finishing up in the diversity department, there's an album from the Marshall Tucker Band.
Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!
Here 'tis:
Earl Hooker ~ Rockin' Wild 1952-1963 Recordings
Little Sonny ~ New King Of The Blues Harmonica
Roy Buchanan ~ Live At Town Hall 1974
Tom Principato Band ~ I Know What You're Thinkin'

Thanks joe
I thoroughly enjoyed John Mooney the album long. Who can resist a Hooker album, Earl or John Lee! I will check in to Son House.
afternoon janis...
glad you enjoyed the tunes! john mooney is an interesting performer, i've got a bunch of his albums, some of which i've pulled out of boxes recently, so there'll be some more in the coming months.
do check out son house, he was an amazing bluesman with an incredibly expressive voice.
have a good one!
Checked out
and fully in.
Roy and Earl, wow!
Hi Joe,
Great stack o'disks man!
It may be wrong to say, but for me, I like Earl Hooker more than John Lee. John Lee was the root and trunk of the tree, Earl was the flowers and fruit. Earl was like the next generation in development with lots more flourish and flair. This early stuff is outstanding.
That is also great Roy Buchanan. Is there any relation between this and Livestock? Sounds uncannily similar. Billy Price singing, etc. Bunch of awesome takes and cuts.
Thanks for the blazin' blues Joe!
happy trails!

evening dystopian...
heh, i like 'em both. a lot. their styles are really different, but they grow out of the same roots.
buchanan's livestock album was pulled from that night's shows, though i think that the mixing and mastering of this version is superior to the original livestock release. the, i suppose you could call them "alternate takes" on this album are really interesting and i'm glad that they're out there now.
Hey Joe!
Iam a sucker for Earl's embellishments...
Very interesting on the Roy record. I thought it was connected... And yeah, it is awesome to have all it so to speak, from that night. And yeah there is a big difference in sound. The Livestock album sounds much more mixed and processed, and somewhat anodyne in comparison. This sounds like a sound board copy, with all its rawness and immediacy. It is great. They had to pretty up the original official release....
Thanks again for for the edumacation!
happy trails!
