Israel, which has one of the highest populations of lawyers in the world (and unlimited Western support), claimed that it was too busy with multiple legal challenges to respond on time. The fact that the ICJ allowed Israel to make such a transparently dishonest ploy to buy time for its genocide (over the strong objections of South Africa) is cause for deep concern. The order was signed by the new ICJ President, Judge Iwasawa.
