Israel Apologists Relentlessly Gaslight And Attack Our Sense Of Reality
The Atlantic has a new Israel apologia article out titled “The Decolonization Narrative Is Dangerous and False” — a noticeable change in tone from the outlet’s “Decolonize Russia” sentiments of last year.
The entire article has been picked apart paragraph by paragraph by a commentator named Sana Saeed, but for my purposes here I’d just like to focus on one specific sentence in it about Israel’s ongoing massacre in Gaza:
“The Israeli goal in Gaza — for practical reasons, among others — is to minimize the number of Palestinian civilians killed.”
If you didn’t know that The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg is a former IDF prison guard who in 2002 said that “the coming invasion of Iraq will be remembered as an act of profound morality”, it would astonish you that such a sentence ever went to print.
One need only look at the before and after satellite images of the bombing campaign in Gaza to see immediately that Israel is doing nothing at all to minimize the number of civilians killed.
One need only look at the fact that nearly 70 percent of the people killed in these airstrikes have been women and children to see immediately that Israel is doing nothing to minimize the number of civilians killed.
One need only listen to Israeli officials themselves saying “the emphasis is on damage and not on accuracy” and “Gaza will eventually turn into a city of tents; there will be no buildings” to see immediately that Israel is doing nothing to minimize the number of civilians killed.
You don’t get to openly declare that you’re going to do a ton of damage with no regard for accuracy, carpet bomb entire neighborhoods into gravel killing mostly women and children, and then say you’re trying to minimize civilian casualties. That’s not a thing.
But that’s exactly what The Atlantic instructs us to believe. They demand that we ignore what’s right in front of our faces and mistrust what we are seeing with our own eyes.
You see this kind of thing over and over again from Israel apologists. They tell you things you absolutely know to be false in your own direct perception, over and over and over again, in the hope that they can overwhelm your mind. That’s what’s happening when they tell you Israel is “defending itself” and “targeting Hamas” when they’re mostly killing women and children and bombing entire city blocks into powder, and that’s what’s happening when they tell you over and over again that you hate Jews and love terrorists even when you know for a fact that you don’t.
The term “gaslighting” has been frequently misused in modern political discourse lately; you’ll often see people using that term to describe someone lying, or even someone just saying something they don’t agree with. But that’s not what the term gaslighting historically means.
Merriam-Webster defines gaslighting as “psychological manipulation of a person usually over an extended period of time that causes the victim to question the validity of their own thoughts, perception of reality, or memories”. It’s when you attack someone’s perception of reality with such sustained aggression that the victim’s psyche just kind of gives up and assumes they’re not mentally competent enough to interpret reality for themselves.
And that’s exactly what you see Israel apologists doing day in and day out with regard to this conflict.
They tell you to doubt your own eyes when you see mountains upon mountains of evidence that Israel is raining high tech military explosives upon areas known to be packed full of children.
They tell you to doubt your own ears when Israeli officials spout genocidal rhetoric.
They tell you to doubt your own intelligence when you talk about the many gaping plot holes in what we’re told to believe about October 7.
They tell you to doubt your own sanity when they demand that you accept unverified allegations about beheaded babies and babies cooked in ovens while ignoring the thousands of children that are being massacred in Gaza.
They tell you to doubt your own beliefs when they tell you repeatedly that you’re an anti-semite for criticizing Israel even when you know you have nothing but good will toward Jewish people.
They tell you to doubt your own motives when they tell you repeatedly that you support terrorism and want Jews to be killed even when you know nothing could be further from the truth.
They tell you to doubt your sense of reality when they tell you Hamas is responsible for all the death and destruction that you can plainly see is being inflicted by Israeli bombs.
They’re never just telling you what to believe about the world, they’re also telling you what to believe about yourself. This is always a telltale sign that you are being psychologically manipulated. Anytime you find yourself involved with someone who continually works to change your perception of yourself in a negative way, you would be well-advised to dis-involve yourself from them as quickly as possible.
srael apologists need to do this because they don’t have truth on their side, and they don’t have morality on their side, so all they’ve got is manipulation. They work so hard to distort your perception of reality because a lucid perception of reality is highly unfavorable to Israeli information interests.
Don’t let them do this to you. Whenever you get the sense that you are being manipulated by someone, just start ignoring their words and watch their actions instead. Their words can deceive you, but their actions, examined objectively, will tell you everything you need to know about them.

Nearly 70% of those reported killed in Gaza are children and women, says UNRWA chief
The head of the UN relief agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) has warned that the level of destruction across Gaza “is unprecedented, the human tragedy unfolding under our watch is unbearable”.
He noted that nearly 70% of those reported killed are children and women. Nearly 3,200 children have been killed in Gaza in three weeks, he said, citing figures by the territory’s health ministry. That number surpasses the number of children killed annually across the world’s conflict zones since 2019, he said.
“This cannot be ‘collateral damage’,” he said, adding that Israel is carrying out “collective punishment”.
Israel Operation Gaza; UN BRICS versus US
Israeli forces appear to be advancing on Gaza City from two sides
Israeli tanks and infantry have advanced on Gaza City from two directions, with tanks reported to be on the main north-south road, in an apparent effort to cut the strip into two.
Reports in the Hebrew media, statements from Hamas and Palestinian witness accounts, described Israeli armour operating close to the Mediterranean coast in the north of Gaza in an area where Hamas said it was engaged in heavy fighting. ...
The escalating assault came amid increasing questions in Israel and among its international backers over what end game Israel envisaged for Gaza amid only vaguely articulated war aims.
The UN and medical staff in Gaza warned that airstrikes had hit closer to hospitals where tens of thousands of Palestinians have sought shelter alongside thousands of wounded.
In the heart of Gaza City itself, footage from Dar al-Shifa hospital showed people who had recently died laid on the ground in white shrouds. Some shrouds contained the dismembered remains of several people, Salama Maarouf, the head of the Hamas-run media office, told Al Jazeera. Dozens of the bodies could not be identified – in some cases because entire families had been killed – and were to be buried in a mass grave, he said.

Twenty-Six Journalists Killed in Gaza Since October 7
At least 26 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza since Israel unleashed its bombing campaign on the besieged enclave in response to the October 7 Hamas attack, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said on Monday.
The majority of the Palestinian journalists were killed by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, with three reported being shot dead on October 7. The CPJ said four Israeli journalists were killed in the Hamas attack. A Reuters journalist was killed by Israeli shelling in Lebanon on October 13.
For comparison, the CPJ has reported that 15 journalists have been killed in Ukraine since Russia launched its invasion in February 2022.
Gaza Doctor Says Hospitals Have to Choose Who Lives and Who Dies Amid Worsening Humanitarian Crisis
Israeli military announces plans to attack hospitals and schools
On Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) delivered a statement announcing its intent to attack “schools, mosques, and hospitals” in Gaza, amid a systematic campaign of genocide and ethnic cleansing that has already killed 8,000 Palestinians. The statement, addressed to the population of Gaza, said, “Hamas puts your life in danger by placing weapons and forces within civilians’ areas in Gaza, including schools, mosques, and hospitals. The impending IDF operation is set to neutralize this threat with precision and intensity.”
On October 17, the IDF bombed the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, a Christian hospital in Gaza City, killing nearly 500 people. The Israeli government and US President Joe Biden falsely claimed that the hospital was destroyed by a missile launched by Hamas or another resistance group, Islamic Jihad, and attempted to substantiate this lie with statements and videos that completely contradicted each other.
But the statement over the weekend made unequivocally clear that targeting hospitals, schools and other places of refuge is the explicit policy of the Israeli government as part of its ethnic cleansing of Gaza. In its statement, the IDF claimed that moving the population of Gaza to the south was a “temporary measure,” and that the refugees would be allowed to return to their homes. “This is a temporary measure. Moving back to northern Gaza will be possible once the intense hostilities end,” the Israeli military declared.
It is becoming increasingly clear, however, that the expulsion of the population of northern Gaza is part of an ethnic cleansing campaign by Israel and that the population will never be allowed to return. On Sunday, the Hebrew-language publication Mekomit published a leaked document produced by Israel’s Ministry of Intelligence recommending the forcible and permanent displacement of the population of Gaza out of Palestine and into Egypt’s Sinai Desert. Mekomit reported that “the document recommends the forced transfer of the population of the Gaza Strip to Sinai permanently, and calls for the international community to be harnessed for the move.” It continued: “The document also suggests promoting a dedicated campaign for the residents of Gaza that will ‘motivate them to agree to the plan.’”
Mekomit wrote that the document “recommends that Israel act ‘to evacuate the Gazan population to Sinai’ during the war: to establish tent cities and new cities in northern Sinai, which will accommodate the deported population, and then ‘to create a sterile zone of several kilometers inside Egypt and not allow the population to return to activity or residence near the Israeli border.’”

ICC Prosecutor: Israel May Be Committing War Crime by ‘Impeding’ Gaza Aid
Israel may be committing a war crime by restricting the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, International Criminal Court prosecutor Karim Khan said Sunday.
Khan spoke to the press from Cairo after a visit to the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt, where he said he saw trucks filled with supplies "stuck where nobody needs them."
"Impeding relief supplies as provided by the Geneva Conventions may constitute a crime within the court's jurisdiction," Khan told reporters in a video of the conference posted on social media. "And I want to underline clearly to Israel that there must be discernible efforts without further delay to make sure civilians receive basic food, medicine, anesthetics, morphine."
During his remarks, Khan also implied that Hamas may have breached international law with its actions during its October 7 attack on Israel, noting that hostage-taking is a specific offense under the Rome Statue of the Geneva Conventions.
"I call for the immediate release of all hostages taken from Israel and for their safe return to their families," Khan said.
Throughout his speech, the prosecutor emphasized the importance of protecting civilians during war.
"The fact that innocent civilians are trapped under the weight of the war they cannot escape and which is not their fault is not tenable," he said.
He also argued that the international community should not simply accept the horrors of war, especially when visited upon civilians, as a "fait accompli."
"We cannot and must not lose sight of the fact that there are laws that govern the conduct of hostilities," he said. "There's no blank check."
In an interview with CNN also on Sunday, Khan said that political and military decision makers should know that they would have to justify every strike against a civilian target such as a school, hospital, church, or mosque. He said that these locations could be considered valid targets if they became military objectives, but this would have to be proven on a case-by-case basis, and the strike would still have to be proportional.
In the interview, Khan refused to comment on specific war crimes that might have been committed, but repeated that it was a violation of the Geneva Convention to willfully target civilians, take hostages, or deny aid. Khan specifically expressed concern about a lack of medical supplies in Gaza, describing images he had seen of children covered in blood.
"If a body is not limp, and maybe there's a bit of a flicker of life, what kind of hope does that baby have, does that child have to medical care if there's no anesthetic, if there's no morphine, if there's no medicine?" he asked.
As of Sunday, a total of 94 aid trucks had entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing since the war began, CNN reported. Humanitarian organizations have described that aid as a "drop in the bucket," according to Al Jazeera.
Israel is not a member of the ICC and does not recognize its jurisdiction, but Palestine is and does, and the ICC has been investigating potential crimes committed there since 2021, Human Rights Watch explained.
"We are independently looking at the situation in Palestine, we are looking at events in Israel and the allegations that Palestinian nationals have also committed crimes," Khan said, as Al Jazeera reported.
Khan has said before that the court has jurisdiction over actions taken by Hamas on October 7 and any crimes that are committed within Gaza, Reuters reported.

‘Hamas has created additional demand’: Wall Street eyes big profits from war
The United Nations has warned that there was “clear evidence” that war crimes may have been committed in “the explosion of violence in Israel and Gaza”. Meanwhile, Wall Street is hoping for an explosion in profits. During third-quarter earnings calls this month, analysts from Morgan Stanley and TD Bank took note of this potential profit-making escalation in conflict and asked unusually blunt questions about the financial benefit of the war between Israel and Hamas.
The death toll – which so far includes more than 8,000 Palestinians and over 1,400 Israelis – wasn’t top of mind for TD Cowen’s Cai von Rumohr, managing director and senior research analyst specializing in the aerospace industry. His question was about the upside for General Dynamics, an aerospace and weapons company in which TD Asset Management holds over $16m in stock.
Joe Biden has asked Congress for $106bn in military and humanitarian aid for Israel and Ukraine and humanitarian assistance for Gaza. The money could be a boon to the aerospace and weapons sector which enjoyed a 7-percentage point jump in value in the immediate aftermath of Hamas’s 7 October attack on Israel and the beginning of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza in response.
“Hamas has created additional demand, we have this $106bn request from the president,” said Von Rumohr, during General Dynamics’ earnings call on 25 October. “Can you give us some general color in terms of areas where you think you could see incremental acceleration in demand?”
“You know, the Israel situation obviously is a terrible one, frankly, and one that’s just evolving as we speak,” responded Jason Aiken, the company’s executive vice-president of technologies and chief financial officer. “But I think if you look at the incremental demand potential coming out of that, the biggest one to highlight and that really sticks out is probably on the artillery side.”
That next day, Von Rumohr assigned a “buy” rating to General Dynamics’ stock.

‘McCarthyite backlash’: response to criticism of Israel alarms rights groups
Civil rights groups in the US have warned of a “wave of McCarthyite backlash” against criticism of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza after Americans expressing support for the Palestinians have been sacked, faced threats of violence and hounded by pro-Israel groups.
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) has warned of the “continued criminalisation of advocacy for Palestinian rights” and described an “increasing tide of anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab attacks in the US” following the Hamas cross-border attack in which about 1,400 Israelis were killed and more than 200 abducted.
Palestine Legal, a Chicago-based civil rights group, said it had received hundreds of requests for legal assistance from people who have lost their jobs, been threatened with dismissal or faced other sanctions for speaking out in support of Palestinians.
Apparently the editor of a scientific journal got fired for reposting this piece from The Onion:
Dying Gazans Criticized For Not Using Last Words To Condemn Hamas
GAZA CITY, GAZA—The complicity of each and every Palestinian in the violent actions of their militant ruling authority was reportedly on full display Friday morning when dying Gazans received justified criticism for not using their last words to condemn Hamas. For example, instead of issuing a full-throated denunciation of the violent attacks by Hamas that have left over 1,300 Israelis dead, one dying woman holding her 6-year-old son who had just been killed in a bombing is said to have doubled down by telling her child she loved him. According to reports, such barbarism on the part of Palestinians was on full display across the Gaza Strip, where many men of fighting age could not muster a single world of reproof for Hamas’ actions while they coughed up blood. In war-ravaged Gaza City, a dying reporter was heard blatantly begging for help instead of labeling Hamas a terrorist organization. At press time, the Israeli Defense Forces Twitter account underscored the massive surge of contempt they were contending with by posting a video that featured the shocking savagery of a Palestinian corpse that refused to condemn Hamas even when kicked.
Landlord pleads not guilty to killing US Muslim boy, 6, and stabbing mother
A man accused of murder, attempted murder and a hate crime in an attack on a Palestinian American boy and his mother pleaded not guilty on Monday following his indictment by an Illinois grand jury.
Joseph Czuba, 71, is charged in the fatal stabbing of six-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoume and the wounding of his mother Hanaan Shahin on 14 October. Authorities said the victims were targeted because of their Muslim faith.
Shahin told police that Czuba, her landlord in Plainfield in Will county, was upset over the Israel-Hamas war and attacked them even as she urged him to “pray for peace”.
Shahin, 32, is recovering from multiple stab wounds. Hundreds of people attended her son’s funeral on 16 October.
The murder charge in the indictment against Czuba describes the boy’s death as the result of “exceptionally brutal or heinous behavior”. Czuba appeared in court on Monday wearing a red jail uniform, socks and slippers.

Biden DOJ 'Bending Over Backwards' to Protect Corporate Criminals
An analysis released Monday shows that the Biden Justice Department prosecuted just 99 corporate offenders last year, despite pledging to crack down on white-collar crime following years of lax enforcement during former President Donald Trump's White House term.
Corporate prosecutions have declined sharply since 2000, a trend that President Joe Biden has failed to reverse, the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen observed in a new report.
During Biden's first year in office, corporate prosecutions fell to 90, just below the 94 that the Trump administration recorded in 2020 and far below the 304 prosecutions in 2000.
The slight rise to 99 prosecutions in 2022—the fifth-lowest on record—matches the second-lowest number of corporate prosecutions during Trump's four years in the White House.
"The Biden Justice Department's light-touch approach to enforcement encourages corporate scofflaws to push the limits of what's legally allowed to maximize their profits—risking our health and safety, our environment, our finances, and our communities," Rick Claypool, a research director for Public Citizen and author of the new report, said in a statement.
"The Justice Department is still bending over backwards to protect corporate offenders from the consequences of their lawbreaking, and it's creating ideal conditions for the next corporate catastrophe," Claypool warned. "The worst corporate-caused crises of the 21st Century—the 2008 financial crisis and the opioid epidemic—are stories about enforcement agencies failing to fight systemic criminal misconduct before it was too late."
If you steal a penny in America, you are a criminal.
If you steal millions, you are a multi-national corporation.
Corporate prosecutions have PLUNGED by 67% over the last two decades!
The DOJ is bending over backward to help corporate criminals.

Movement against Georgia’s ‘Cop City’ plans occupation and ‘week of action’
The movement against the police and fire department training center known as “Cop City” is planning two events for the coming weeks in and near Atlanta, Georgia – including a first-ever, non-violent protest march on to the project’s construction site.
The action, planned for 13 November and aimed at occupying the Cop City site for a day, could draw a thousand or more people from across the county. This would make it the largest protest to date at the location. The other event is a Black-led “week of action” the week before, aimed at Black audiences.
Both are new tactics in a movement now in its third year that has captured national and global headlines, particularly after police shot and killed Manuel Paez Terán, or “Tortuguita”, on 18 January, while the activist was camping in a forested public park about a mile from the planned training center.
Called “Block Cop City”, the occupation is planned to draw people primarily from audiences in 80-plus cities who have come to speaking tour events in the last two months. The talks have drawn crowds between several dozen and several hundred to bookstores, community centers and college campuses. They include a history of the training center project and the movement that opposes it, based on concerns about issues ranging from deforestation in an era of climate change to police militarization and anti-democratic decision-making.
The goal for 13 November is for people to peacefully march on to the 171-acre footprint of the training center, a forest south-east of Atlanta. The site has been guarded by police for months. The week of action planned for 3-10 November is the seventh such event since Atlanta announced plans for the training center in 2021 – the first organized by Black-led groups and aimed at Black audiences in and outside Atlanta. The city’s population is 48% Black and the neighborhoods surrounding Cop City are mostly Black.

Climate crisis: carbon emissions budget is now tiny, scientists say
The carbon budget remaining to limit the climate crisis to 1.5C of global heating is now “tiny”, according to an analysis, sending a “dire” message about the adequacy of climate action. The carbon budget is the maximum amount of carbon emissions that can be released while restricting global temperature rise to the limits of the Paris agreement. The new figure is half the size of the budget estimated in 2020 and would be exhausted in six years at current levels of emissions.
Temperature records have been obliterated in 2023, with extreme weather supercharged by global heating hitting lives and livelihoods across the world. At the imminent UN Cop28 climate summit in the United Arab Emirates there are likely to be disputes over calls for a phaseout of fossil fuels.
The analysis found the carbon budget remaining for a 50% chance of keeping global temperature rise below 1.5C is about 250bn tonnes. Global emissions are expected to reach a record high this year of about 40bn tonnes. To retain the 50% chance of a 1.5C limit, emissions would have to plunge to net zero by 2034, far faster than even the most radical scenarios.
The current UN ambition is to cut emissions by half by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050, although existing policies are far from delivering this ambition. If it was achieved, however, it would mean only about a 40% chance of staying below 1.5C, the scientists said, so breaking the limit would be more likely than not.
But, they warned, every 10th of a degree of extra heat caused more human suffering and therefore keeping as close as possible to 1.5C was crucial.
UK backs suspension of deep-sea mining in environmental U-turn
Britain is backing a moratorium on commercial deep-sea mining, after criticism from scientists, MPs and environmentalists of its previous stance in support of the emerging industry.
On Monday, the UK government announced it would back a temporary suspension on supporting or sponsoring any exploitation licences to mine metals from the sea floor until enough scientific evidence was available to understand the impact on ecosystems.
Last month, dozens of scientists warned the prime minister, Rishi Sunak, that allowing industrial-scale exploitation of the seabed could have grave consequences, both for marine life and for the ability of the ocean – one of the planet’s greatest carbon sinks – to absorb carbon dioxide.
Until now the UK has stopped short of backing a moratorium. The change of heart puts it on a growing list of at least 20 countries, including Brazil, France, Germany, Sweden and Canada, calling for a pause on supporting exploration licences, at least until the environmental effects of seabed exploitation are better understood. Even car manufacturers such as BMW and Volvo, and the car battery maker Samsung, have pledged not to use deep-sea minerals in vehicles.

The emotionally-charged reality denial around Hillary Clinton’s richly-deserved defeat in the US election of 2016 (“Russiagate”), the bizarre doublethink regarding Western forces (and/or Ukraine) blowing up Nord Stream (thereby committing an act of war among “allies” and of eco-terrorism), Israel’s “right to defend itself” interpreted as the permission to commit crimes against humanity with Western support – all are instances of a form of collective self-indulgence. Too many people in the West still claiming to be the world’s “value” guardian practice lying and lying to themselves as if it were their special birthright.

A pogrom is an organized genocidal attack on a populace
accompanied by the destruction of their dwellings and property. Few live in airports and the ukies have long been thwarted in their attempts to exterminate all of the Rus in Eastern Ukiestan, so that leaves only Gaza. Surely you don't oppose what is being done to the civilian populace of Gaza, after all, it is a democratic party priority.

After 2,000 years of one carnage after another and billions of people praying for gawd to help them only to see them killed anyway. And just WTF are Muslim countries waiting for? Didn’t they say that if Israel invades Gaza they would reign hell down on them? Is any country going to try to stop the extermination of Palestinians or will the world sit on its ass and just watch it happen?
Let’s imagine that 2 million Palestinians move to the Sinai desert. What then? In order to keep them fed and hydrated how many trucks will need to bring supplies in daily? And who is going to pay for it?

well, i don't know what it proves, but it does seem that the followers of the major abrahamic religions (jews, christians and muslims) are really bad at following the rules that their gawd gave them. all three religions have some variant of the "golden rule" in their magic books, but that doesn't seem to have much effect on their behavior.

I read the left behind series that was written by an evangelical and he sure made it seem like it’s going to be a nightmare for those that gawd rejected. But I don’t see why Jesus would want to park his buttocks in Israel for the rest of eternity.
Here’s the Caitlin tweet I mentioned last night.
Maybe I should have said that gawd doesn’t look like he is that interested in humans and he might be hanging out with others that haven’t spent the last couple thousand years slaughtering each other and ignoring his words about that. And taking his words and twisting them into something that makes it seem like he’s in favor of their slaughtering. Remember the C street Christians who re-interpreted Jesus actions at the temple and pretended that he meant that he wanted people to get as rich as possible and have no compassion for those who live in poverty.

I have questioned Sunday School teachers
Torah best the New Bible, both best the Quran, Hindu is bested by Buddhism, so at least all of them acknowledge their good books and their ways are subject to controversy and improvement.

He writes another substack called Dark Futura which I linked. He’s really nailing the hypocrisy of those who are calling for censorship if they go against the narrative of the PTB. Click the link.
I posted the link you did Sunday and I think it’s one of his best.

Oppenheimer shelved in Japan
Oppenheimer Shelved in Japan
This is like the Crush Documentary not being available in South Korea. Now they say Oppenheimer is not being released for commercial reasons not political reasons. This is pure bs. The article mentions the right wing elements in Japan repressed the movie Unbroken about Japanese treatment of POWs. Imo the movie was unrealistic. The protagonist in that movie in a battle of wills with the commandant or whoever he was, would have lost his head early on. The movie just didn't impress me, although I do remember Hotel Tacloban.
I watched Ilan Pape's interview on DN. That was excellent. A friend gave me his book about ethnic cleansing in Palestine and Plan Dalit. It's a hard read never finished it. What it described was appalling, very much like what's happening now.
When I overdosed on Chinese HSK 1, I started to watch the second season of My Dearest, the kDrama in which the brutal Manchu barbarians carve up their slave victims who either were kidnapped during military raids or delivered as tribute by defeated Joseon King Injo. The Ming had been thought to be more civilized as Han people than the Qing (the Manchus). The 17th Century barbarians are easier to take than the news lately.
They say as years went by, the Manchu dynasty became easier to deal with, as it became Sinicized.
Yoon gave an administrative policy speech to the National Assembly, and tried to make it appear like he was an affable fellow, he shook Lee Jae-myung's hand, and those of other opposition democratic National Assembly members. Quite a few, ignored him when he passed by with his outstretched hand. I don't think, like Lee, that I could shake the hand of the person trying to put me in prison for the rest of my life on completely fabricated charges. I didn't listen to the speech (yet). I understood from a Justice Party critic who held a press conference, that Yoon basically briefed an austerity budget, catering to large business interests, and ignoring some necessary programs to support people suffering in a serious recession. Yoon is looking at his party losing in the April elections, so he's pretending to listen to advice to communicate to the opposition and be more responsive to public concerns. I heard that Yoon's recent interference in a local Seoul jurisdiction district manager election alone was grounds under the constitution to impeach him. There appears to be a suggestion of some kind of consolidation of Seoul electoral districts with those of other nearby satellite districts outside the city to offset the election blow out defeat expected for conservatives in April. Sounds like gerrymandering. Efforts to change election laws and restrict or disqualify early voting are also expected from Yoon.
I don't think Yoon is fooling anybody with his alleged personality turnaround from the confrontational tyrant to someone more amenable to negotiation, but we'll see. To me it's a hoax. One sarcastic observer remarked when Yoon bowed he looked like an emissary of Japan or words to that effect, while Lee who looked relaxed didn't bow at all but acknowledged with a head nod while shaking hands. Its funny to me that the hand shaking round about the Assembly floor seemed to be getting more attention than the speech itself. Like Yoon has charisma?
語必忠信 行必正直
evening soryang...
heh:
perhaps when you listen to the speech you may find that the hand shaking round was the more substantive of the two events.
