Album of the Week 8-26-23

Afternoon folks!

This week we've got blues from Chicago blues harmonica player Junior Wells and an album from Luther Johnson (also know as Luther "Georgia Boy Snake" Johnson, not the other Luther Johnson that played with Muddy Waters as well, sometimes known as Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson). Johnson is backed by Muddy Waters and his band. After that, there's an early Elvin Bishop Group album some Link Wray tunes and some early recordings of Duane and Greg Allman before they found their groove, though there are some hints of what was to come there. After that there's an album from Jo Jo Gunne which features their big hit "Run, Run, Run." Then there's some folk blues and general fun with Jim Kweskin and the Jug Band (featuring Maria Muldaur before she was Maria Muldaur) and for a bit of diversity, there's an album by a band formed by a previous member of the Fairport Convention, (Ian) Matthews Southern Comfort.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the tunes!

Here 'tis:

Junior Wells - On Tap

Luther Johnson With The Muddy Waters Blues Band - Chicken Shack

The Elvin Bishop Group - Feel It!

Link Wray - Sings And Plays Guitar EP

Allman Joys – Early Allmans Featuring Duane And Gregg Allman

Jo Jo Gunne - Jo Jo Gunne

Jim Kweskin & The Jug Band - See Reverse Side For Title

Matthews Southern Comfort - Later That Same Year

I forget that you all are not showered with local European news. And without that my headline can't be understood. Anyway it is not important at all. Sorry if I confused anybody with it.

It is really not me, who is demented, but the media who let all demented ideas get used and abused in their headlines.

Whatever, no kisses for you from me. They are deadly. For whom, to me or to you, is not clear to me. I have to think deeply about it./S

Sigh. Be happy not to live - for the time being - in Germany and all countries, who share a border with Germany.

Love and peace
you all have a better than a good one.

Germany is getting a bit strange. Is this a societal suicide or just leadership
screwing everything up? The war on common sense continually seems to be
ramping up there. You have probably survived wurst Wink

Good luck mimi

heh, here in the u.s. we are deeply offended by the nipples of middle aged black women. (see the brewhaha over janet jackson's halftime show) surely kisses can't be far behind.

The gone-viral Rich Men North of Richmond song has been discussed and we've gotten Billy Bragg's response - seemed like recording a few other folks' responses might be worthwhile...

@Blue Republic just advocates working for union wage. Not the realization of the 1% oppression Anthony is talking about.

Unions and their wages drive up the product costs for everyone, and then we are right back where we started from. 99% of the people struggling to survive.
There must be a better way.

yep, it's an affecting performance. it will be interesting to see if something comes of it as it seems to affect different classes of people in different ways.
