Junior Wells

Album of the Week 4-18-26

Afternoon folks!

Ok, ready to tiptoe through the blues? Starting out we've got an album of Chicago blues harmonica play Junior Well's early recordings, followed by a compilation album of guitarist Earl Hooker's recordings. After that there's a live album of Muddy Waters and Otis Spann from 1958, originally recorded to an acetate record the first couple of cuts have some occasional noise, but it's worth it. Following that is a mostly acoustic album from John Lee Hooker. Then it's on to blues rock with an audiophile remaster of The Band's "Music From Big Pink" and then we finish up with an album from Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 4-11-26

Afternoon folks!

Here's a bunch of great music to enjoy some good weather with, or, alternately, enjoy sheltering from miserable weather with. Starting off we've got Buddy and the Juniors, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells and Junior Mance doing the stuff that made Chicago great. Following that is another Chicago blues album from Blues Queen Sylvia with guitarist Jimmy Dawkins and then a compilation album of (hmmm, this is becoming a theme) Chicago blues guitarist Otis Rush's early recordings. Next we've got a live album of blues and blues rock from Albert Collins, Etta James and Joe Walsh. Rounding out the lineup is an album of Japanese prog rock from the Sadistic Mika Band.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 2-21-26

Afternoon folks!

Well here's another batch of blues for you guys. Starting off we've got a compilation album of some of Chicago blues guitarist Buddy Guy's Chess recordings, great stuff, followed by a live recording of Buddy and his frequent partner, harmonica player Junior Wells - the album is about bootleg quality but worth a listen if Chicago blues is one of your things. Following those albums is one from Texas soul-blues singer Robert Ealey and then it's on to early Excello swamp-pop label recordings from harmonica player Jerry McCain. Some of the Jerry McCain videos may be missing because some awful German record company has decided that it would like to deny Americans their musical heritage of 60 year old recordings. After that there's a modern zydeco album from Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas. Finishing us off is a live album from the Grateful Dead's guitarist Bob Weir and one of his side projects, Kingfish.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the tunes!

Album of the Week 2-14-26

Afternoon folks!

This week among other things, there are a handful of great live albums. Starting off is a live album from Chicago blues guitarist Lonnie Brooks, followed by a studio album from another Chicago blues guitarist Otis Rush. After that it's another live album, this time from harmonica player and singer Junior Wells backed by one of Chicago's tightest backing bands, The Aces. Then we have a compilation album of Washboard Sam, backed by Roosevelt Sykes and Big Bill Broonzy. Following that we get more modern with an album from New Orleans musician Trombone Shorty and then yet another live album from blues rock guitar legend Roy Buchanan. Finishing up in the diversity department is a fun album from a bunch of Canadian folkies, Moxy Fruvous.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 1-3-26

Afternoon folks!

This week it's all hits, no errors. Starting off there's a compilation album of early recordings from one of New Orleans' finest songwriters and guitarists, Earl King. After that a live album from Chicago harmonica player Junior Wells followed by an album from a fine vocalist, Mighty Sam McClain. After that is the other half of the compilation of Sonny Terry recordings from last week and then we switch up genres for an album from Buckwheat Zydeco. We finish up with another genre switchup with an album from the Old Crow Medicine Show.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 12-20-25

Afternoon folks!

There's some awesome blues music here this week. Starting off is Big Mama Thornton with the Muddy Waters Blues Band in 1966, a really great album, followed by Junior Wells a few years later accompanied by Buddy Guy, Otis Spann and a bunch of other Chicago blues luminaries. After that is an EP that I picked up years ago from a cutout bin of some of Jimmy McCracklin's early hits on Chess records. Following that is James Harman, a fine harmonica player and we finish up with some bluegrass with Peter Rowan - great stuff!

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 5-24-25

Happy holiday weekend! We've got some stuff to amuse you for a bit, here. Starting off with some Chicago blues, we've got a live Junior Wells album from the 60's followed by an album of Otis Spann tickling the ivories for you. After that it's on to the father of British blues, Alexis Korner. Then it's back to Texas for an album from a fine guitarist Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets, after which we bounce back to Britain again for a live album from Chicken Shack later in their career. After that we've got some folky/acoustic kinda blues from Tom Ball and Kenny Sultan which segues nicely into a classic album from Leon Redbone. We finish off in the diversity department with some prog rock from Gentle Giant.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great holiday weekend!
