A walk through the bog
Today was time for a bit of soul recharging. It was still cold and windy, but at least the sun came out. So it was time for a walk through the bog at Beaver Lake Nature Center.
First stop is always feeder set up at the visitor center. Three species of woodpecker, nuthatch, titmice, chickadees, cardinals, American Goldfinch, even a Pine Siskin. Unfortunately I left the Bigma (Sigma 150-500) at home and only had my 18-135.
On to the bog. Not much green vegetation yet, but I think it will really start to boom once it warms up next week.
This 18-135 can produce some very strange OOF highlights at certain apertures...
Back to the start of the loop.
Then back through the Hemlocks. It seemed like there were more down trees this year than in past years.

Nice pix!
Tks!
There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know.
Thank you!
Beautiful!
We have had about 4 elementary school age woodpeckers hopping up and down the trees outside our bedroom windows. Fun.

Superb photos!
I was watching a Nuthatch at the feeder today. I couldn't help but laugh at how it would rather cling to the side, or hang from the perch instead of just sitting. Their natural foraging is always upside down or under.
Thanks for the wonderful nature pics.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
They are fun to watch.
We had both white-breasted- and red-breasted nuthatches where I lived in Minnesota. I only ever saw the red breasted ones a couple of times though.
Nice photos boriscleto!
This shit is bananas.
I was hoping to see a Red-breasted today
I had a White-breasted at home yesterday. I don't get many nuthatches or woodpeckers since I don't put out suet.

Love your photos.
The birds and the bog are beautiful!

Ditto the sentiments already expressed--gorgeous photos!
The various varieties of Woodpeckers are among my favorite birds.
Thanks for sharing, boriscleto!

This is extraordinary work
Wow.
Stay on track. Stay in lane. Don't throw rocks.
I've always wondered...
How do woodpeckers avoid concussions... LOL
Great pictures...

Bogs and birds ...
What a beautiful Spring reminder. Thank you!
Pond-in-the-bog
looks so boreal. And then back into the mixed, wet woods. The beeches here in Central NY are letting loose of last year's leaves, a sure sign of spring (and that the tree is alive). Peeking up through occasional snow dustings, my trout lilies are showing leaves. Warmth and sun will make a difference.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
In a few weeks
The bog and the Three Meadows trail will be full of warblers, and vireos, orioles, grosbeaks...
May is the best time of year in CNY by far.

Gawd! What Great Pictures!
We have have a rather mundane assortment of birds that we feed here; sparrows, house finches, (forgot what the grey ones with the long tails are called), and Cardinals. "Chip!" "Chip!" "Chip!" is always a sign that Spring is here.
A dead bird appeared on the porch yesterday. We can't decide if it's a small Crow or a large Starling. Black but iridescent blue tones. I buried it in the Pet Cemetery so that in a few months, when the worms have done their spectacular cleaning job, I can present it to SWPUWM to add to her collection of skulls. Yes, the most gentle woman in the world collects skulls.
