Friday Night Photos Virtual Vacation Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 01/06/2023 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.
With much of the country experiencing rain and snow this last week I thought it would be a good time for all of us to take a vacation. So everyone throw on some shorts, sandals, and your best Hawaiian shirt, mix up a Mai Tai or Blue Hawaiian and come along with me on a virtual vacation on the beautiful island of Maui. Don't forget you sunscreen.

Hi Social
Thank you for the visit to Maui and the hula music to enjoy it with.
In case anyone would still rather have rain, then here’s the place to be right now …
If it stays like this much longer we might float away.
Enjoy the weekend all
Hi, Janis
As green as NZ is I would think you get rain all year round. Is your summer rainier than normal this year?
As for sending rain our way, I can't speak for the rest of the state, but San Diego could use a little more rain.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
Hi Social
Judging from my experience of the last 26 years it is definitely rainier than normal, and a total contrast to the last several summers which were exceptionally hot and dry.
Why can't everything be more equitably distributed, climate and otherwise.
There was a Science fiction series
written by Philip Jose Farmer called Riverworld. It rained every day there but only for an hour and only at night. That would work for me.

; )
If I'm honest, I would miss seeing another hour of rain in daylight. One or two at night, and one or two during the day would be my ideal.
Hey J!
Yeah, you can send any extra rain here, we are a couple feet behind in D3 extreme drought.
thanks for the great pic!
be well!

Yes, those are the complementary colours
of moss and bloom.
I wish I had the power to send you some rain.

Hi all photographers and appreciators of photography
I’m looking for your personal opinions about what format you would prefer to look at these three images in. I’m considering whether to display them as separate images side-by-side, or printing them together on one sheet of paper. Any ideas are welcome.
Nice images, Janis
If you're going to display them side by side I would go with the triptych as opposed to individual prints.

Thanks Social
I am leaning that way, but typically need time to decide. Thank you for your input, I appreciate it.
Hi Janis
and that is my dos centavos... you will need a few bucks for a coffee!
Then again, it doesn't matter which way you do it, they are GREAT images!

Mucho thanks dystopian
In a way what you say is the crux ...
"Together they work together, in a new synergy, but in a way dilute each other, and the strengths of the individual images."
It's a one-off ... decisions, decisions ... I'm glad I still have time to contemplate. Your input is very welcome.
FWIW, and I am NO photographer!
Inner and Outer Space: the Final Frontiers.
Hi obf
The images are meant to be seen by an audience, most of whom aren't conventional photographers, so thank you for your input. In some ways we are all photographers now with a phone in our pockets.
Thanks for the images of Hawaii Socialprogressive.
They are as close to Hawaii as I will ever get.
Hi, humphfey
Maui has always been special to me. Glad I was able to take you along.

Hi pixelators
Hi all, Hey SP!
GREAT pics SP! Looks fantastic... wonderful photos. I lived with a couple surfers in the mid-70s socal. Of the sort that took one board to Hawaii, and flew home with a different one. Maui Wowee was the house herb at times. Heady days shall we say.
We have some sort of connectivity here now, which is still fragile and is going in and out and making things difficult.
Live-oaks. This is at the town's city park.

Imma cut it short and post before I lose it all.
Hope all are well!
A nice lady here suggested I post this here...
Check this out when daylight tomorrow...

Maui wowee, dystopian
That's almost as good as having a stronger connection.
Your photos vibrate with light and life, thank you.
I don't think I've missed a day visiting those hummingbirds since you first posted the link.
Hi Janis
I guess there should be some sort of warning for that link...
Watching those hummers is as addictive as the sugar water they drink.
They are fascinating, incredible diversity there, some are huge,
those long tails, and metallic blues, oh my...
take care!

They are truly addictive
For my taste more than the sugary stuff ; ).
Those long-tailed ones are amazing, especially the ones where their long tails separate into two streams. I also saw some bats feeding at night.
Thought I was bats...
I saw that, too! I have an icon on the desktop of my old laptop that goes straight to those feeders. Sometimes, at night, I'll go there ...probably just out of boredom. Anyway, I did it not too long ago and expected to see nothing, but then there they were! Wasn't sure at first, but pretty soon I realized what I was looking at. So cool!
Yeah, watching the hummers in the daytime is addicting.
I always thought you were traveler,
batty, that is! I tried slowing down the speed, and you can actually see more clearly that the bats are really feeding. At first like you, I thought I was seeing things.
Night-time speed demons
You can do that? I've no clue how.
Was just watching and can't tell if I'm gazing at a bat or a huge moth.
They are truly speed demons,
those flying day and night creatures.
Go to settings (HD) on youtube where you can adjust the speed. I didn't know either about that option until a friend I sent the link to told me.
ps
I love the additional sounds of night life.
Thanks!
Really, this is the first I've heard of any ability to change the speed of videos. I'm going to check it out.
Thanks again.
Hi, dystopian
Maui Wowee. Best pot I ever smoked.
Thanks for the Hummingbird feeder Live stream link. I'm amazed at the amount of Hummers that visit during the day and Bats after dark.

Great photos! Those hummingbirds look like
Inner and Outer Space: the Final Frontiers.
This is now happening in Hawaii.
Thank you humphrey
The sound of the lava flowing certainly resembles the sound of waves, interesting.
Did anyone bring marshmellos?
Mother Nature putting on a display. Thanks for the link, humphrey.

snow beach
question everything
Definitely smart, QMS
to set up protection from the sun's glare off the snow. Where's the food and drinks ; ).
Ha
Ice tea and frozen shrimp
question everything
The frozen shrimp has potential
Next time consider warming yourself and the shrimp by a bbq in the snow.
Hi, QMS.
Snow beach looks like an acquired taste. One I hope I never acquire. Me and snow just don't get along.
