The Hypersonic Speed of Stupidity

Open Thread Image.jpg

It's the hyperbolic shifts fomenting insanity from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) and the associated Russiagate narrative, to the Covid mindset with vaccination, lockdowns, and masking controversies, to the Ukraine coup, NATO provocation, and Russian invasion. Now lets add in a war with China just for fun and maximum disturbance. Everyone has whiplash from these knee jerk reactions to events. The propaganda machine is running overtime trying to control the narrative, and the people are left confused and misled. Meanwhile back at the ranch the economic sanctions on Russia have come home to roost, and though the west is winning the western PR propaganda war, they are losing the economic and military confrontation.

shoot yourself_0.jpg

Perhaps it is insanity rather than stupidity creating WWIII (by choice) with two other nuclear armed countries. Creating conflict with Russia and China instead of promoting cooperation, global trade, and world peace, if not insane, is certainly stupid. This is about corporate power and the hell with people and what is best for the citizenry. Meanwhile let's throw our crumbling money system into the mix, and fund a graft machine bound to enrich those here at home providing the funding. Ukraine has been the Biden's cash cow....and the Clintons...and Obummers, et.al. Money in the front door, money out the back door and into corrupt pockets. Not to mention the MIC enriching their coffers. It is worse than shooting ourselves in the foot.

Compare the warmongering nature of the US to the cooperative projects by China...

Laos, the only landlocked country in the Southeast Asia region, has in recent years been pursuing the goal of becoming "land-linked" as a way of boosting its economic development. A milestone in this effort was marked on December 3, 2021, when the China-Laos Railway opened to traffic. The line, which runs from the city of Kunming in China's Yunnan province to the Laotian capital, Vientiane, has been hailed as a major initiative in Belt and Road cooperation. According to a World Bank report, by connecting Laos to global and regional supply chains it could make the country more attractive to investors, create new jobs and accelerate economic growth. Speaking at the railway's inauguration, Chinese President Xi Jinping, who along with the leaders of Laos took the decision to have the railway built, praised the five years' concerted effort made by the two countries in completing the construction, and the high standard of the work.

We on the other hand are trying to use the Ukraine model with Taiwan.

Washington’s Shifting Taiwan Policy Aims for an Asian “Ukraine”

1. Taiwan is to China as Ukraine is to Russia, in other words the US seeks to wage a proxy conflict through the breakaway island province in the same way the US is waging war with Russia through Ukrainian forces;

2. Just as US training and arms sales to Ukraine has done absolutely nothing to “repel” Russia, US training and arms to Taiwan will not only not “repel” any military operation to reintegrate Taiwan fully, it will most likely only accelerate provocations toward such a military operation;
Washington’s goal in both Ukraine and Taiwan is not to preserve the regimes administering either territory, but to create and use conflicts involving both territories as justification for isolating Russia and China;

3. The Western arms industry obviously is benefiting to the tune of billions regarding arms sales to not only to Ukraine and Taiwan, but also to nations as part of “preparing” for wider conflict between Europe and Russia as well as Indo-Pacific nations and China;

4. In both cases it is clear that the US is not underwriting security for either Ukraine or Taiwan as well as the regions both territories reside in, and instead, is the greatest threat to both regions and wider global peace, stability, and prosperity.

Alex and Alexander suggest the US is close to recognizing Taiwan as a seperate state.

Gonzalo suggest Australia is being set up as the patsy in Asia.

Nice to have Gonzalo's commentary again.

China is well aware of these actions.

On May 5, the Republic of Korea's spy agency became the first in Asia to join a NATO cyber-defense institution designed based in Estonia known as the CCDCOE. The news came as NATO has stepped up collusion with ROK and Japan, vowing to "stand together" with its "Asia-Pacific partners to protect their values".

China is asking: after messing up Europe, is NATO now trying to mess up the Asia-Pacific and even the world? What does NATO extending its claws eastward mean for China and the region? How should countries in the region respond?

Stay tuned for more conflict as China rises and the US empire crumbles.
Controlling the narrative is essential to promote all the destruction.

Meanwhile in Europe things are in disarray. Potential large scale conflict is possible with Finland joining NATO right on Russia's border. More provocation, poking the bear into full scale WWIII?
Scott Ritter, Ray McGovern , and Garland Nixon discuss the situation. Scott is concerned about NATO expansion in Finland.

How does fascism arise?

I was reminded about the movie because of a conversation with Scott Ritter and Joe Lombardo as they talk about the Movie Cabaret

Turkey may be a problem for NATO.

Erdogan says NO NATO for Finland & Sweden. EU oil embargo problems.

The US plan for a Russian war has been developed for years. The US plan to fight Russia REVEALED in 2019 Report

Key points:
The “bleeding” of Russia shall be achieved with the use of the following measures:
- Hindering Russian natural gas exports to Europe by opposing pipeline renovations and manipulating world oil prices;
- Encouraging the brain-drain and seeking to exacerbate further Russia’s demographic crisis;
- Providing lethal aid to Ukraine;
- Promoting regime-change in Belarus;
- Using disinformation to diminish foreign and domestic support for the RF’s leadership;
- Increasing the size of the US nuclear arsenal (the fact that this breaks several treaties between the US/RF is not mentioned);
- Exploiting tensions in the southern Caucasus (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan);
- Challenging the RF’s presence in Moldova;
- Controlling the Black Sea, ultimately preventing the RF from claiming territorial waters around Sevastopol.
What is truly key here is the following: what RAND had stated - and published, as early as 2010 - on the matter of Ukraine, has all happened.

And just when you think it can't get worse, it gets worse. This week there's a major power grab by the WHO (ie Gates). Russell and Neil explain.

Hot on the heels of Bill Gates’s GERM team, the World Health Organization is drafting a global pandemic treaty on pandemic preparedness that could grant the agency unprecedented biosecurity powers.

This pandemic treaty is the greatest power grab any of us has seen in our lifetime, says Neil Oliver

power grab.jpg

Another assist on the way to the "Great Reset".

The US is awash with arrogant stupidity and selective vision. We are above the laws that we want to hold others to. When we commit war crimes, we imprison those who reveal them. The US can cruise near others shores (like the strait of Taiwan) but they better not cruise our shores, nor those of our fellow warmongers. The people of the US are concerned about a failing economy as $40 billion is sent to promote a needless war of choice. If we gin up a war with China we will be in deep trouble. The US is ill equipped to defeat the Taliban, but arrogant enough to think they can fight nuclear armed Russia and China at the same time. It is beyond stupidity, it is insanity.

These are dark times, and tomorrow night they will be even darker as we in the eastern us will experience the best lunar eclipse of the year.

Biden pursues war with great powers so he can keep the money spigot flowing to the weapons corporations. Why worry about climate change when we can worry about Russia and China?

Ultimately Biden is keeping the White House occupied until the Republicans take it over in 2025. And there's only seven months left before the Republicans control both houses of Congress; "Republican obstructionism" provides a much more powerful alibi for maintaining the political status quo than anything else on offer. Obama knew that.

for the Biden's and other dims. Ukraine, the most corrupt black market in Europe, has funneled untold money into the Clinton foundation, both Hunter and the big guy, Kerry and Pelosi's family members. It is a personal cash cow as well as a political move. It is a two party grift with McCain and Graham making hay and promoting the coup as well, but I'm not aware of personal profit other than MIC donations to them.

By pushing countries together with Russia and China by insisting that they accept IMF loans and destroy their middle class and beggar their poor those countries are now looking to join with China because they invest in their countries instead of destroying them as we insist they do. And the Russian sanctions are driving up prices around the globe. Psakiopath said that Americans are gladly paying the price so that Ukraine can fight for freedom and democracy. Bull sh*t, Jen. No one asked me if I wanted to support Nazi extremists in Ukraine. I do not.

3rd world problems coming your way

While most of the world’s attention is focused on the Ukraine, there are events happening in Sri Lanka that should alarm everyone. Sri Lanka is a small independent island nation off the southern tip of India. Relatively insignificant in the global context it may prove to be the “canary in the coal mine” that portends a wider global and economic crisis. A long corrupted and badly run country, it has announced that it can no longer meet its international debt obligations. Like so many others, Sri Lanka was devastated by Covid, without tourism and trade its lacks the foreign currency essential to pay its debt. With some $56 billion in foreign debt it has been forced to return to the IMF to seek further loans to pay for imports of food, energy and medicines.

Chaos and riots are widespread throughout the country and on Monday Prime Minister Majinda Rajapaska stepped down. The resignation failed to quell the riots and protestors are also demanding the President, Gotabaya Rajapaska, the former P.M.’s brother also step down. On Tuesday 10th, the Government ordered troops to shoot anyone looting public property. The Government also ordered thousands of Army, Navy and Air Force to patrol the streets of Colombo, the capital. Eight people are reported dead and more than two hundred wounded. Houses belonging to the Rajapaskas and other Ministers were torched. It is not the country’s first economic crisis, but is by far its worst and the long beleaguered people have reached breaking point. There are shortages of everything, inflation is rampant and the healthcare system has broken down. Enter the IMF.

The IMF as always has a plan for such situations. Structural reform, usually involving feeding money in so that the interest on the debt can continue to be serviced although never repaid. It will also involve cutting any Government spending on essential services and the privatising of any remaining public assets. As we may imagine none of these measures will be popular with the people who as always will suffer the most. Not that the concerns of the ordinary people will worry IMF or the investor class it represents. Debt must always be serviced before the people eat. These are the rules of the “rules-based order”.

….
Since 1945 and the implementation of the Bretton Woods agreement the world has been held hostage by a financial system that was designed to benefit a small minority in the capital class. Poor countries were to be kept poor and any real economic development was to be discouraged. It is a financial system that trades in human suffering and misery. It was the new face of empire, financial neo-colonialism. The vast resources of the American military were deployed around the world to ensure that no nation strayed from the plantation. Yet even the power of the military cannot be expected to quell the anti-Western momentum that is happening now. To quote Napoleon, “there is something more powerful than all the armies in the World, that is an idea whose time has come”. That time has come. Which country will be the first to completely repudiate its foreign debt and start again with an honest financial system, we don’t know. What we do know that it will base its new system on one demonstrated so capably by the Chinese, based on growth and development. Any one country alone making such a move can expect to incur the full wrath of the Empire, yet a number of like-minded countries working in concert will have strength in numbers. All indicators suggest this is now happening.

Once just regarded as third world problems, chronic food and energy shortages together with unmanageable inflation are coming to the west. Scenes recently witnessed in Sri Lanka may soon be repeated on the streets of Europe and America. Hard times are coming for all in the short term, yet a world freed from the clutches of the Empire promises a brighter future for all mankind.

Good luck with the Great Reset, Klaus.

After Obama’s brutal coup in Ukraine the IMF loaned them money and then insisted that they put crushing austerity measures on their citizens. Pensions and lots of other programs were gutted. I doubt the citizens signed up for that.

If you can’t reach the site I’ll post more. Strategic Culture is hit and miss. They have been having a battle with the state department because of what they write about there. Some journalists have been hit with fines or threatened with them if they don’t stop. Yeah so much for the 1st amendment.

Also there’s no way that Germany or Europe can refuse Russian oil because that would not only destroy their economy, but would have dire consequences all over the world.

Long and detailed article on this. Almost every oil factory is built to receive Russian oil and building new ones would take at least a decade and by that time there would be no industries left standing to use it.

Democrats will get wiped out in the midterms and republicans will once again take control. Rumors are that one of the 1st things they are going to do is raise taxes on we the people. Democrats will surely help them do it.

It's funny how totally ineffectual the UN is as to peacekeeping and crimes against humanity and such but how, nonetheless it is able to pull off power plays in other arenas.

Funnier yet is this little bit:

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any state to the Contrary notwithstanding.

Article VI Paragraph 2, US Constitution

so, theory says that we all have access to and implicit knowledge of all US laws. (This is bullshit right up front, because, though secret laws are anathema to a nation of laws, we do have them, especially in the form of regulations, administrative "guidelines" and the like which are either classified or "for official use only".) Is there, anywhere, a collection of all of the treaties to which the US is a party? Is there some resource which can serve tjhe purpose of edifying the populace sufficient that we can legitimately be presumed to be acquainted with them the way that we are, quite laughably, presumed to be cognizant of all laws, regulations, executive orders and other government pronunciamentos? I seriously doubt it.

The Library of Congress appears to have only a partial collection - note the passage I italicized:

About this Collection
The United States Treaties collection includes the United States Treaty Series (1795-1945) and United States Treaties and Other International Agreements or TIAS (1950-1984). This collection includes treaties to which the United States is or was a party in the agreement.

Guy Mettan discusses the deep thousand year history of Russophobia which informs the current Ukraine crisis. Europe had divided in two parts along religious lines which can still be seen in Ukraine today. He traces Russophobia from medieval Germany to France to Britain and back again to Germany and today the U.S. and EU. Brzezinski outlined the importance of conquering Ukraine because it’s the pivotal power of Europe. Ukraine is the first battle of the Third World War. It won’t be a total war, it will be a global unlimited war, unlimited in space and time where everybody will be affected. He agrees that there is a neo-totalitarian trend in the West and that democracy is a false flag. He’s pessimistic regarding the future development of our world as the U.S. and EU develop into a totalitarian new empire. But he’s optimistic that the light of the truth can’t be extinguished.

@Lookout

I’ll look out in a few. The moon rises over the mountain and unfortunately I just remembered that I left my good camera in the trailer. Bummer!

But here’s something that won’t surprise you. The kid that shot 10 people in New York had threatened to shoot up his school. He had been investigated just like Lanza of the Florida shooting had been. Gendron picked NY because of their strict gun laws and he knew that no one could kill him with a regular gun. I believe that there was a security guard who was also killed.

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/buffalo-mass-shooter-cites-great-rep...

So desperate and uncontrolled was this ghoulish attempt to blame Carlson for the Buffalo shootings that my email inbox and social media feeds were festering with various liberal pundits demanding to know why I had not yet manifested my views of this shooting — as though it is advisable or even possible to formulate definitive opinions about a complex mass murder spree that had just taken place less than five hours before. “Still working on your talking points to defend your buddy Tucker or are you holding off on trying out your deflections until the bodies get cold?,” wrote a pundit named Jonathan Katz at 6:46 pm ET on Saturday night in a highly representative demand — just four hours after the shooter fired his first shot. Demands to assert definitive opinions about who — other than the killer — is to blame for a mass murder spree just hours after it happened can be called many things; "journalistic” and "responsible” are not among them.

Not only were Trump and Tucker to blame for the killings, but Glenn was too because he goes on Tucker's show and talks about things that go against the democrats narrative. Just forget that people like Rachel will never have him on her show because she doesn’t like people who have different opinions than she does. Same with MSDNC and CNN.

No one in government can say a damn thing about this after they have loaded the world with lethal weapons for as long as it has. We’re the greatest purveyors of violence remember? But another white mass shooter peacefully arrested by cops whilst thousands of unarmed black men have been murdered by cops for traffic violations. Go figure.

Here’s Greenwald on the Gendron killings.

The guy who shot at the republicans playing baseball was a huge Rachel fan who for 4 years vilified Trump and republicans, but Glenn doesn’t think that they owed any responsibility for the shooting.

Gendron was upset that immigrants were replacing the white peoples but again he doesn’t think that the media folks have any responsibility for the killings. Maybe not individually, but their rhetorically hysterical ravings sure add to the hatred people have towards others in my opinion. Look at how many people still think that Trump was put in office by Putin and Russia. The hatred that shitlibs have towards both has been ramped up by those who lied to them. And Fox News has some responsibility for how conservatives hate the libtards.

Ima gonna disagree with Glenn on this. The media has been dividing us for decades and we should see through it and focus on our real enemies. The corpse class wants many of us dead. Change my mind.

Those enemies are as obscured as the moon in eclipse. As I write this the moon is just now reappearing. Happy eclipse everyone!

Hey to Sam too..

It is awesome, clearly visible from my front porch. The visible portion of the moon is red to yellow.
If war for the rich doesn't kill us all, climate change will. or plastics! Can you believe how plastics are in everything?
We have a disadvantageous relationship to TPTB. They don't really know us, they sort know of us. They do not love us, mostly despise us, and they don't particularly need us. They need us to be quiet, go gently into that good night, and leave them be to enjoy their Hampton's home, or Swiss chalet.
I wonder if they realize they need mechanics and driver and replacement parts for their limos? Or pool cleaners? Or mechanics and parts for their private panes? And pilots? And someone aboard to hand them their drinks? Clean the toilets? Make the toilet cleaning products on some factory line?
To be a Big Man, you must be a total dick. I am a loss for a word to describe Big Women, such as HRC. Others may fill in that blank.
Take good care, friend!

As to TPTB, I give up. Let them have their delusional world, sick with greed and hungry for more power. I can't do anything about them, so I'll return their approach to the working people and ignore them.

We keep plugging away maintaining and growing the homestead. At least that has some reward.

All the best my friend.

with mainland China (and an overwhelming majority do not under current circumstances) then they should not have to - any more than Donetsk or Luhansk or Crimea should be required to 'reintegrate' with Ukraine. It would make about as much sense and be about as morally justified as say, Spain deciding to retake Cuba. Maybe less so since with the exception of two years or so two post-WWII Taiwan has not been under the control of a mainland government since the last decades of the Quing Dynasty - some years before the Spanish-American War.

As far as that goes, Spain also gained control of Cuba over a hundred years (early 1500's versus 1686) earlier than the Quing invasion and annexation of Taiwan.

It seems to be pretty generally accepted here that the US is trying to weaken and dominate both Russia and China. But is that actually the case?

Consider the 80's. Reagan. Star Wars. Make the Russians attempt to keep up with US 'defense' expenditures and bankrupt them. OK, the Soviet Union goes broke and semi-collapses. Yay! We win!

But did we? Or did the Soviets just go broke *first*? Yes, we weakened them, but started a process of debt, decline and expansion of the MIC that has profoundly damaged ourselves.

So now the US, the Europeans and the various junior partners are out to weaken Russia - but the weakening is mutual, as people are starting to find out.

Question is, who benefits from this? I submit that it is the PRC. How does it stand to benefit them?
Well, the classic geopolitical standards: power and resources.

Doesn't that fly in the face of the close relationship between China and Russia? Not necessarily. The current relationship is mainly one of mutual convenience, driven in no small part by American hostility (especially sanctions) toward Russia. In the longer term strategic and cultural perspective they have traditionally been very much rivals. China's desire for control of the vast resources of Siberia and the Russian Far East are of very long standing - as are Russia's determination to hang on to them and concern about how to do so. (See Baikal-Amur Main Line)

A weakening of America/Nato and associates *and* Russia would - PRC leadership probably correctly conclude - leave them not only with the chance to take Taiwan at minimized risk, but to be the dominant power still standing - a bit like the situation the US was in at the end of WWII.

Those with warm and fuzzy feelings toward the PRC will be comforted by the fact that (USAF Ret.) General Robert Spalding does not feel that Taiwan is defensible. But maybe less so about his reading of the Chinese leadership's strategic aims and how they pursue them.

From Chapter 1 of Spalding's most recent book "War Without Rules: China's Playbook for Global Domination" (April, 2022)

So what is China up to? What do they want? And how are they working to get it?

According to too many of our politicians and business leaders, China doesn't want much, and it isn't acting against us at all. Conversations on this subject that take place in the Pentagon are usually steered by the view from the top. In some fashion, the views of the president and his most senior advisers and cabinet members set the tone for how the meetings would go. In my tours in both the White House national security staff and the Pentagon, the required view was that if you said China was an enemy, you could be out of a job. Outside the formality of those rooms, my colleagues and I had screaming arguments about exactly that subject.

When I arrived at the Pentagon as the China adviser to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2014, the instructions from the Obama administration were clear: We were not going to do anything in public to antagonize China as their relationship is too significant financially. The narrative was that the two most powerful countries in the world had to cooperate to solve greater challenges like a nuclear-armed North Korea and climate change. That stance was built on the absurd idea that China wants to fix either of these issues. (It doesn't.)

Over those years I came to two key realizations. First, the number one goal of the Chinese Communist Party is the survival of the Chinese Communist Party. And second, the number one threat to achieving that goal is American democracy. We may not see them as our enemy, but they surely see us as their enemy. An existential one.

The basis of globalization that was agreed to in the wake of World War II was the principles of the Atlantic Charter, which underlies the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, and other bodies. There are four keys: free markets, democratic principles, rule of law, and self-determination. This is what the global elites who convene in places like Davos believed the Chinese were moving toward. In fact, the exact opposite was true. As we later learned, the Chinese Communist Party regards those exact principles as a fundamental threat to its existence.

Good interviews with Spalding at Epoch Times: Part 1 Part 2

Robert Spalding retired from the U.S. Air Force as a brigadier general after more than 25 years of service. The author of Stealth War, he is a former China strategist for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Joint Staff at the Pentagon, as well as a senior defense official and defense attaché to China. He earned his doctorate in economics and mathematics from the University of Missouri and is fluent in Mandarin.

My sister teaches in Taiwan, and she says most people there are tied to and like China regularly visiting the mainland. So as in most countries it is the power elite driving conflict for personal power and profit. It would be interesting to see a vote of the people in Taiwan in the same way it would be interesting to see Finland and Sweden vote before entry into NATO. It isn't about people, but power, control, and profit, IMO. YMMV.

Like it or not China's empire is on the ascent and the US in decline by almost every metric.

"...right out of the DC Think Tanks — who channel their own nazi-imperialist fever dreams — and know nothing about Chinese culture and civilization."

Criticizing the source and *zero* material to say about the content.

That is a seriously lame response. But here, take another shot at it.

Do you believe that the PRC has the right to 're-integrate' Taiwan under its rule, by force if necessary, irrespective of the wishes of the Taiwanese people?

If so, what is that right based on? If China has such a right, how does it differ from the Spain-Cuba example I cited?

If China and Spain do have a right to 're-integrate' their former territories, what about the right of:

  • Ukraine to the Donbass?
  • Poland to their former lands now in Ukraine and Russia?
  • Germany to the Sudetenland (now Czech Republic) and their former Eastern provinces (now Poland)?
  • Ethiopia to Eritrea?
  • Serbia to Kosovo?
  • Mexico to Alta California?
  • Colombia to Panama?
  • Japan to Sakhalin?

Where does consideration of the sentiments of the people living in those areas come in (and of those who may have been forcibly displaced from them (Germans from Sudetenland, natives from Sakhalin, etc.)? Or is that irrelevant?

What, precisely, do you find wrong with the desire on the part of the people of Taiwan to be left alone to control their own destiny?

Did you listen to a thing that Spalding has to say? What he is explicitly 'channeling' is traditional American values such as individual liberty, freedom of expression and the like. The very idea of which is viewed by the Chinese Communist Party as an existential threat.

So, am I missing something or are you not saying that individual liberty, freedom of expression, etc. are "nazi-imperialist"? Because it sure sounds like that is precisely what you are saying.

As for "know nothing about Chinese culture and civilization"

Skepticism about think tanks is always advised. But if you're claiming Spalding knows nothing about Chinese culture and civilization you are clearly dead wrong. He lived and studied there for several years. He speaks (fluently) and reads Mandarin. He has been studying China for decades and was, among other things, the chief advisor on Chinese matters to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Although I'm sure that pales beside your qualifications.

New Hampshire congressional candidate Lily Tang seems to know a bit about China, and also about the Constitution:

That's a lie for fools to believe.

China has waited for 70 years and is content to wait another 170 years.

Everything else is a complete fever dream of nonsense and fake history. It's a paranoid American hallucination. A gross attempt to provoke a war with China. It will fail.

Can't you tell when you are being bamboozled by the CIA?

It's good that you are here. You are exactly the sort of specimen that people would benefit from observing. Watching how easily your mind was seized by these perverted political psychopaths. You comment and you have no idea how creepy you sound. This is a good thing, indeed. People will learn by observing how the evil twists and degrades your mind.

publication produced by the Falun Gong religious group that produces extensive disinformation about the Chinese government.

China Genocide fabricated by Epoch Times fake News and NY Times disinformation

The New York Times recycled flimsy claims by a right-wing apocalyptic extremist to accuse China of “genocide,” in an op-ed by an American with 1/8th Uighur heritage who worked for Epoch Times, a far-right, pro-Trump outlet backed by cult Falun Gong.
...

What is The Epoch Times?
Dangerous Propaganda Masquerading as News

If you have watched a YouTube video in recent weeks, you have probably noticed the incessant wave of advertisements by a media company calling itself The Epoch Times. Their ads are so dominant right now on that site, it almost feels like they are the only company buying them, or that they are somehow being funded by YouTube. That’s not the case, they just have millions of dollars to spend, and aren’t shy about spending it. The content of these advertisements presents a picture of a media company trying to gain an audience by promoting news that is factual and without bias, but at the same time makes no effort to conceal its agenda of extremism, which is both disturbing, and dangerous to the public sphere. It is important that the general populace knows exactly who these people are.

The Epoch Times was started by John Tang in the year 2000 as a Chinese language newspaper. John Tang is a graduate of Georgia Tech who publicly supports the Fulan Gong, a Chinese religious order that opposes communism and as such is banned from practicing in China. The newspaper started as an anti-propaganda of the Chinese state, but quickly transitioned to other languages and although it actively promotes anti-communism (even gathering signatures for a petition to “stop the Chinese Communist Party on its homepage), much of its content is focused on hard right spinning of the news and promotion of conspiracy theories that actively spread false information.

The Dark Propaganda Strategy of Epoch Times
Progenitor of fake news delivers to local doorsteps

Last month, many local residents were amongst the thousands of Southern Californians who received a copy of The Epoch Times in their mail boxes — the newspaper “freedom loving people wanting news without spin prefer to read.” What The Epoch Times doesn’t tell you is that it’s connected to and has the same function as the long-running Chinese performing arts show, Shen Yun. You probably recognize the show from the ubiquitous billboards promoting the show. Shen Yun is the public relations — some say propaganda — arm of Falun Gong, a controversial spiritual movement which has been banned in China.
...
Despite the locally disseminated paper being printed in El Monte, CA, The Epoch Times is not a local newspaper. It doesn’t even pretend to be. Its content is largely supplied by writers in every other part of the country but California. And despite its claims that its content has “no spin,” the world it depicts in its pages is upside down, emblematic of a Trumpian-worldview.
...
The news organization was founded with the aim of attacking China’s Communist government in support of the Falun Gong movement. As the government ramped up its repressive efforts against the movement, the movement started looking for allies wherever it could find them — perhaps thinking the enemy of my enemy is my friend. This led to the movement linking arms with far-right groups around the world particularly in Europe and the United States and participating in the manufacture and dissemination of the kind of fake news you’re likely to see in online forums and fake-news websites, except it’s putting it in print. The publication is funded by several non-profit organizations that are not transparent as to who is supporting them.
...
Higdon’s solution sounds like a process that would require a great deal of education, time and political uplift in order to make that happen. But also, I can’t help but be reminded of Ron Suskinds’ 2004 New York Times piece about the Bush presidency in which he quotes a senior advisor saying:

People like you are still living in what we call the reality-based community. You believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality. That’s not the way the world really works anymore. We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you are studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors, and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.

Protecting American democracy and ensuring that reality is moored by facts and science won’t wait for the exposure of every bit of fake news or until every American achieves media literacy. The world in which we live today is vastly different from the one inherited by the Trump administration.

And having zero to say about the content is pretty lame - see my response to Pluto's Republic above.

If (you believe) the US is not at war with China, if you do not regard China as an enemy or threat to the freedoms that you enjoy (abridged and encroached upon as they are) as an American, that is more than irrelevant to the PRC leadership: it is exactly what they want and an outcome they have been systematically working to achieve.

It does not in the least alter the fact that they are waging war (as they define it) against the US nor the fact that they define the US as their principle enemy. They regard the bedrock principles of a democratic constitutional republic based on individual liberty to pose an existential threat.

They are perfectly fine with you not seeing them as an enemy or threat. But the thing to understand is that they regard your freedom and your country as the enemy and are acting accordingly - in line with the Sun Tzu principle of defeating your enemy before or without actually fighting them in battle.

Unrestricted Warfare (Alternate translation War Without Rules) the 1999 Chinese military publication which is the basis for Gen. Spalding's latest book is available for free download here.

Edit: to add "you believe" for clarity.

I think the US is fomenting a war against China...as it has Russia...Syria...Libya...Iraq...Yemen...Somalia...Afghanistan...Venezuela..Cuba...

Is China perfect? Hell no..but sadly the US is far worse promoting global conflict for US corporate profit where as China promotes the good of its people before profit with a cooperative model. At least from here in the holler it looks that way to me. YMMV
