Washington pines for a new Cold War

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave one of the most important speeches of his presidency yesterday, but it was only covered in a Turkish newspaper, and the Wall Street Journal (who buried Zelenskyy's comments under a very different headline).
With tensions so high against Russia concerning the Ukraine situation, why would the American media bury the story?

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a speech Wednesday underlined that the "hype" around the danger of a Russian invasion has grown rather than the actual threat, as he urged the country to remain calm.

"The risks have not just existed for a day, and they have not become bigger. The only thing that has become bigger is the hype around them," he said.
...
Addressing his compatriots in the speech, Zelenskyy said: "Now it is not our country that is being actively attacked, but your nerves, so that you have a constant feeling of panic."

The aim is rather to weaken Ukraine's economy so that the Ukrainian "no" vote on certain issues also becomes weaker, Zelensky claimed in the video message and appealed: "To the media: Be methods of mass information and not mass hysteria."

Wow. I wonder why the American news media would ignore this important message?
LMAO. I'm not wondering. We are being lied toward war for the umpteenth time in my life.

Do you remember Max Boot? He's one of the warmongers that got absolutely everything wrong with the invasion of Iraq, and pretty much everything else over the last 20 years.
Yet the MSM still takes him seriously.

That's right. Saying "don't come any closer. I feel threatened" is the exact same thing "going on the attack"...to a bully. Anything other than obsequious submission if unacceptable, when you really want to pick a fight.
Nevertheless, a good bully knows how to spin things in order to make him appear to be a victim.

All the United States wants is to avoid an expanded Russian invasion of Ukraine...That’s a pretty minimal demand, but it might be more than Vladimir Putin is willing to grant. The Russian dictator has not been subtle or secretive about what he wants. He might as well make the national anthem the Beatles’ “Back in the U.S.S.R.”

This is, of course, a complete and total lie. It's easy to identify it as a lie because it's impossible.

His bogus rationale is that NATO’s expansion eastward is a mortal threat to Russia.

Sure. Why would Putin be afraid of the most aggressive and powerful military organization in the world that was created to specifically to control Russia?

A three dog night to the Inuit is when its so cold that you need to sleep with three (hot blooded 101-103 degrees F body temperature) very cute and furry sled dogs to stay warm. Up there, Russia and the US are so close they can visit one another for tea.

Woof!

Wouldn't that be preferable to warfare? (Samoyed and Husky kisses)

Im serious. I am so sick of the Cold war mentality.

It kills people. Haven't we outgrown the warmongers yet?

Peace!

Didn't we invade several Western Hemisphere countries within the last few decades?

We cant defend Ukraine from Russia, In our supposedly "rich" country one in five children go to bed hungry at night.

However we will defend Little Diomede Island and its rich guano reserves to every last poop.

Ukraine is not part of the US. So at the end of the day they have to do it themselves. Put the war mad folks in a ring and let them fight it out man to man, with their claws and teeth.

Why dont they have a referendum?

Neoliberalism, the same radical right wing ideology that rules us today was the direct successor of fascism and German ordoliberalism.

Under it, money is everything. Those without money are nothing. Nullities. People have no rights that don't come from money.

Looks like a number of European countries are also jumping on the fear mongering over Russia. Supposedly neutral Sweden is moving troops into Gotland Island. Scare the Russians off invading a sparsely populated island which in modern warfare would have no strategic value. The report below was from French state television which seems to be solidly anti-Russian from the segments I have seen.

And oh those anti-tank missiles the UK is sending to the Ukraine.

Ukraine Needs Help Surviving Airstrikes, Not Just Killing Tanks A Russian invasion would likely start with a punishing bombardment intended to induce quick capitulation.

Those anti-tank weapons will play no role given Russians air superiority. And with Russia's newest tank may take several of the weapons to take them out, with the crew surviving the attack.

I know that many of their aircraft are very old, and rusty. Ours too, I gather. Doesn't sound safe.
Also the aging Russian population doesn't want war. Russian young people scorn and ridicule those in the military. It seems as if its literally the last thing they want to do. US young people too.

Basically, the world is becoming sick of wars and warmakers. Any politician who gets the country into war will be tossed out in the next election along with other militaristic incumbents.

Peace symbols are becoming popular in windows again. That shows the general sentiment. They should prosecute war crimes aggressively. Why don't they? Instead they go after reporters.

The people who hide war crimes should be arrested as part of a conspiracy to commit them. And kill innocent people, including children. Mistake or not, its intolerable to kill children greeting their parents with drones from the sky under any circumstances.

The government must be changed if it tolerates this.
