Based on a manufactured threat - military occupation of Washington, D.C. not seen since the Civil War (when there was and actual war going on just the other side of the Potomac).
And, since, apparently, the National Guard itself might be a threat (as TN Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen points out, it's threateningly white and male) the FBI and Secret Service team up helpfully racially profile and ideologically vet the troops 2000 of whom have been deputized as US Marshals - so much for the Posse Comitatus Act.
At least one other Dem Rep. wants the current seven-foot security fence around the Capitol to be made permanent. Because nothing says "Democratic Constitutional Republic" quite like razor wire, I guess.
Actual threat from Capitol-invading Trump supporters can be expected to ease with the Biden inauguration as they can go back to being Antifa or CNN reporters or Boogaloo boi's.

Well, looks to me like
the Owners are have pulled a spectacular jiu-jitsu move and turned Trump's little ego stroke garden party into getting us used to having a permanent, heavily-armed, explicit military presence in DC. Not just the toy soldier 'roid-rage FEMA/DHS/cop types with all the cool gear, but the actual fucking regular military. I know that there wasn't much difference before, but there will be zero difference now.
They used his overwhelming ego and his bulk against him, and it worked a treat. And just watch: after 6 months of other news cycle shiny objects, nobody will remember that for the longest time (200+ years!) there weren't all those fighting vehicles dug into pits with full fire coverage and command of every approach and exposure, and gun barrels swinging back and forth 24/7.
The camel's nose is in the tent. I know that the poor people of Washington DC were hoping to achieve statehood at some point. Unfortunately, what they've now achieved is garrisonhood. Welcome to Joint Base YouLoseSuckers...
Don't get me wrong: I hate the assholes who've done this. The MAGA dimbulbs were played like musical instruments, got to have their 4 hour tantrum in the sun, and just paved the way to make sure that nobody will ever upset the peace and tranquility of Our Sacred Halls ever again, no matter how real, valid, or emergent their grievances might be.
