Sunday Surprise: Treaty of Tordesillas
I cannot simply ignore this date, the date of the Treaty of Tordesillas between Portugal and Castile (Spain). This treaty divvied up all newly discovered and yet undiscovered lands outside of Europe between Portugal and Castile. It was subsequently blessed and sanctified by assorted papist bullshit Papal Bulls, and established several outrageous principles, including that the whole world was there for the taking by one or more European powers and that some sleazy Borgia or successor Pope had the authority to bless such shenanigans.
The group Los Colchakis, often accompanied by appropriate indigenous groups have produced many albums of replicated indigenous music of South America. It is a satisfying diversion and relaxant for these times and, most particularly, for today. This is "La Flute Indienne" (1967).

the father of my deceased niece was from Portugal
and raised in Goa, India. He and his daughter had accumulated many, many CDs with pan flute music. I can't get access to them right now, but I thank you for the memory to both of them with the music you posted . Both are dead by now sinc 8 and 22 years. Both died tragically way too early. My niece fought to visit many countries in her short life. May she rest in peace.
May be this sounds a bit 'too much of it' right now to you, but I feel like it's soothing and healing music.

Thanks mimi. Pan flute is a great instrument and usually
pleasant to listen to, though there is one artist I don't have too much use for.

tell me which one, is it the one I posted?
I am sorry then. I guess I am musically undereducated and have no taste or a clue.

Oh no, not him. Nobody indigenous for that matter to the
americas for that matter. I can't recall the performer but once heard his music described as "twee", a word I was unfamiliar with, which turned out to mean affected, saccharine, cutsey, and sentimental, and I thought of the word and the guy's music and decided that the music defined that word for me.

Oh yeah, I got it, Zamfir. When you associated him with
Pat Boone, that triggered me to make the Kenny G association.

cool stuff EL!
I love all kinds of indigenous music, almost doesn't matter what or from where, I find it all fascinating musically. Of course some of the biggest rock musicians made expeditions to be influenced by it, often with great results, from India to Africa.
Los Lobos are great musicians too!
thanks!
