The Coup Intrigue in SK continues

Constitutional Court Justice Jeong Hyeong-sik nominated as presiding judge for impeachment trial

The decision was made by random assignment by a computer, and he is also the brother-in-law of Park Seon-young, the chairman of the Jinwha Committee
appointed by Yoon Seok-yeol after the December 3 civil war.

This article reports that the most conservative member of the currently six justice Constitutional Court to rule on Yoon's impeachment referral from the National Assembly was "randomly" assigned. His sister in law, just so happens to have been appointed to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission as Chairwoman, just days after the "unsuccessful" coup attempt by Yoon and his clique of new right radicals in the Defense Ministry.

The title and excerpts are computer generated. The original article dated today, is in Korean.

Judge Jeong, who has a strong conservative tendency, graduated from the 17th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, and served as a judge at the Seoul District Court and a chief judge at the Seoul High Court. He was appointed as a judge in December of last year by President Yoon Seok-yeol. On the 6th, after declaring martial law, President Yoon appointed Judge Jeong’s sister-in-law, former Liberty Forward Party lawmaker Park Sun-young (chairwoman of the non-profit organization Mulmangcho), as the chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which the opposition party criticized as “an insurance policy appointment ahead of the impeachment trial.”

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission is a political hot potato. It was intended to serve the purpose of clarifying the historical record of massacres, murders, torture, etc., during the prior military government of the US; during the dictatorship of Syngmun Rhee, etc. Much of Yoon's pro-Japanese, pro-authoritarian, effort thus far has (until the military coup effort) been directed to rewriting official history by erasing the important role of the Korean independence movement's war against Japan, and the record of former pro Japanese collaborators in suppressing the independence movement during and after the US occupation at the end of WWII. Yoon's historical rewrite involves expunging dictatorial excesses such as those of Rhee, Park, and Chun, in favor of their "positive" achievements.

Mulmangcho foundation or Forget-me-not Foundation is an NGO, with international ties, particularly to Japan, which ostensibly is in favor of "peaceful reunification with North Korea." It advertises itself as a human rights foundation. Human rights is the Achilles' heel of North Korea. The organization imo downplays the role of Japan in effectively using the repatriation program to deport thousands of the Korean minority in Japan to North Korea in the 20th Century. This ethnic Korean minority known as Zainichi was and is discriminated against severely in Japan. Park, Justice Jeong's sister in law, was a director of this NGO.

This links to a scholarly article on the subject of Zainichi repatriation in a Yale journal:

Return to Paradise: Repatriation Programme from Japan to North Korea

Mulmangcho Foundation advocates in the memory of those shipped off from Japan, with the cooperation of both Japan and North Korea, to North Korea. The NGO serves in part as a propaganda operation. It's position essentially is that those Zainichi who left discrimination and lack of human rights in Japan only to face hardship and lack of human rights again in North Korea were victims of North Korean propaganda while downplaying Japan's role.

See, In Hiroshima, Japan, the Japanese branch of the Advisory Committee for Democratic Peace and Unification held a lecture on peace and unification together with the organization Mulmangcho.

So Park seems to be an ideologue of the new right ilk, appointed to rewrite Korean history, in favor of the pro-Japan, pro-authoritarian, legacy elites, that support Yoon. It is likely that Justice Jeong, appointed by Yoon as a Constitutional Court Justice is cut from the same cloth.

Early in the Yoon administration, a mystic of the traditional Korean traditional folkways, Dosa Cheon Gong, a fortune telling youtuber and cult leader, predicted that Yoon would preside over the reunification of Korea in 2025. There was substantial evidence that Kim Gon-hee and Yoon were being advised by Cheon. Cheon's office was just outside Yongsan garrison perimeter, in Tongbu Ichondong.
