Well, ya got trouble, my friend, right here
I say, trouble right here in River City
Why, sure I’m a billiard player Bible reader
Certainly mighty proud I say
I’m always mighty proud to say it
I consider that the hours I spend
With a cue Good Book in my hand are golden …
POTUS Bush the younger was asked in a debate who his favorite philosopher was and his answer was, “Jesus Christ” … and now Michelle Obama and Ellen Degeneres and everyone apparently believe him and love him … Everything monstrous and dubious he did, and was, in office is as if it never happened, wiped away “like with a cloth or something” — Hillary’s (and Obama’s) karmic BleachBit …
It seems that, on some deep level, Americans love a good con … It’s what we get for having all means of mass communications, and now even basic social contact with each other via Internet, designed and built around one thing and one thing only: paid advertising …
All sorts of dodgy characters become billionaires, churning out a debased version of everything including politics and culture, turning it all into mere entertainment: show biz, a race for attention and ratings to see which business, which brand can most effectively “monetize” human activity … All is marketing and behavioral psychology, an imperative to push people’s buttons, rile or beguile them, and thereby shape their spending, voting, and donation patterns …
All a big game of insiders fleecing “marks,” where the more unreflected the latter’s gut reaction and the cheaper the evoked emotions, the bigger the opportunity for the former to profit …
“I am outraged,” Budde said in a telephone interview a short time later, pausing between words to emphasize her anger as her voice slightly trembled.
…
“I am the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington and was not given even a courtesy call, that they would be clearing [the area] with tear gas so they could use one of our churches as a prop,” Budde said.
She noted that Trump stood in front of the church — its windows boarded up with plywood after demonstrators shattered glass there and in many other buildings on nearby streets Sunday night — holding a bible, “one that declares that God is love.”
“In my 67 years, I have seen our country change a great deal. But what happened to George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Sandra Bland, Paul Castaway, Melissa Ventura, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin and countless others has been a sad constant.”
We promise to keep you up to date on any developments over the coming days. When it is possible, we will repair the physical damage to our church. Please pray that our country can heal the wounds laid bare by the tragic and unnecessary death of George Floyd.

when it seems that vandalizing a church is a ho-hum and acceptable act to most “left” audiences … while vandalizing a mosque or synagogue, let alone setting fire to one, would be reason for the ultimate degree of alarm and outrage …
The 21-year-old son of a St. Landry Parish Sheriff's deputy was arrested Wednesday in connection with the fires that destroyed St. Mary Baptist Church, Greater Union Baptist Church and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in 10 days. He's been charged with three counts of simple arson of a religious building.

who are all upset about Trump holding the bible haven't read it themselves. One of the most violent and exclusionary pieces of mythology in the world's history. So tell me what is so wonderful about a god who sets up a gate to eternal life where only those who confess their love for the crucifixion of a human man's body can gain access?
The Christians who are all bent out of shape about the Supreme Court and John Roberts' ruling (what Trump was protesting) are the same ones who seem to be fine with allowing SCOTUS to redefine the cross as a secular marker, not just once, but many times.
They got what they deserved. You let the state define your symbols just to push the cross in front of everyone's faces, then you are guilty of devaluing your own beliefs. First the cross became a generic grave (or roadside) marker, and now churches are the same thing as arenas. Makes me laugh!

in D.C. is an Episcopal Church. Episcopalians generally aren't "bible thumpers" or fundamentalists. They don't really get into the fire and brimstone "believe in Juh-ay-sus or else you'll burn in hell forever!" stuff. In the US, the Episcopal Church has been pretty liberal-minded.
In fact, I doubt that fundamentalists even acknowledge Episcopalians to be Christians. I know the fundies don't acknowledge Catholics to be Christians.

It was a femaie Episcopalian minister from Iowa named "Wee Mama" at Daily Kos who worked diligently to get me and many other atheists, non-believers, etc. who had the temerity to question the tenets of religious opinions (there is no difference between beliefs and opinion). It was OK for Christians to yak up whole conversations on the beliefs at DKos, but not for anyone to challenge them. She wrote a whole diary (actually more than one) about how people who challenge religious claims should be subjected to a higher standard of banning.
She is now an official greeter for the site.
I just saw Bishop Budde from the church in DC where Trump stood out front interviewed on NPR last night. She was all insulted that he used her church for a photo op. Like no one else has ever taken their picture in front of that church. He didn't go inside, and therefore did not "invade sacred space" as she claimed.
I have found over the years, especially since reading the whole bible cover to cover, that the liberal Christians are most guilty of playing fast and loose with the content of that book. God loves everyone and Jesus is just a benign community organizer. Give me a break. That right there is proof that the book is read by liberal Christians with rose colored glasses on. And they get all shocked when you point out that Jesus condemned whole towns of people to hellfire if they were rude to him. In fact they deny those passages even exist. Just because the Episcopalians ignore the hellfire lectures by the character called Jesus only means they are in denial of the book's contents.
The fundamentalists are more honest when it comes to getting the tone of that book, that god and that savior.
It's all bunk anyway.

She is still a goal keeper on who gets to talk about Christianity there. She is almost as annoying as the ones who tolerate no criticism of democrats or Pelosi. Mention how she fell in line with McConnell on giving the rich trillions and you’ll get "her hands are tied because she doesn’t have any power. Bull. If the house doesn’t reconcile what the senate passes it doesn’t get passed. Period.

there is one long time member who pretty much always blames the voters for not giving dems the house, senate and WH cuz it's up to us to hold their feet to the fire don't you know? It is never on them to actually use the power they have to get bills passed or blocked. You know like any repub can do any time they are in the majority. David Sirota posted a great article on the 10 things that they can do right now to keep Trump from doing what he has been. I think it's in last night's evening blues. David says if they do not do one thing on his list then they are complicit. Well duh, we knew that. Just one dem could have stopped the 1st CARES bill that gave trillions to not us, but it passed 96-0. And now there is a repub blocking a bill cuz he doesn't like it. How can people not see that there is only one party? Ooops another rant coming on... C-Ya.
