The knee was a brutal coward’s knee.

The line of cops waiting to audition for leading roles stretches like a blue highway around the neck of this country. But who buys the tickets? Who fills the theater? Whose will is being done in this tedious, blood-curdling, repetitious, racist drama?

The “tell” for me was not just the brutality of this cops knee, but his hand in his pocket as he looked out at the cameras/crowd as he strangled the life out of Floyd for over seven minutes. His face was also seen by those those he serves - the elite rulers of the globe. His face and his cold heart demonstrated to them that he was their true servant.

WAR on Antifa: As Trump vows to declare it a ‘TERRORIST GROUP,’ AG Barr equates rioting to domestic terrorism

https://www.rt.com/usa/490330-trump-vows-declare-antifa-terrorist/

Barr is calling what is happening Domestic Terrorism and the reason he is saying that is so that all the laws such as the patriot act and the 2012 NDAA can come into play. This is why the NDAA that was passed during Obama's tenure was so dangerous. With Barr claiming this then if the pentagon does roll out the military police they can arrest anyone they want and throw them into prison for as long as they want. No access to a lawyer. No Trial. No Habeas Corpus. Indefinitely until the president decides that the incident is past.

Sirota says that this country is a tinder box just waiting for the match. I thought the match would have been lit when millions of us started starving to death and being thrown out of their houses because they were fired from their jobs and congress would not extend unemployment benefits or do what other sane countries have done and paid their workers until they were allowed back to work. But it was Chauvin/George that lit the match and here we are. Read the links I have posted here to see how ......

Can we honestly ask African American people to keep voting, in a system that is historically and institutionally racist, for more powerful white people – or, in the case of Barack Obama, an acceptable black man who believes in and upholds the same system as his oppressors?

I urge, as my hero Lucy Parsons did before me, that fundamental societal change cannot come from “vote begging, nor political campaigns.” They need the space to breathe.

After the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014, the Justice Department commissioned an after-action report to evaluate the response of law enforcement officers. The report stated that less-lethal munitions could be warranted in many protest situations, but that officers should take care not to use those weapons against citizens simply exercising their constitutional rights and choose a course of action that is not just authorized, but “is right.”

Riots in Covid-19 era are the ‘language of the unheard’, looted bare by white elite

The massive scale of the protests sparked by the police killing of a black man in Minneapolis bares the roots of American discrimination – economic woe and ‘legal’ ruling-class looting, multiplied amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The killing of 46-year-old black man George Floyd by a white police officer in Minneapolis has sparked a wave of violent protests rooted in something bigger than one more terrible incident of racist police brutality.

There is nothing new, sadly, about mass black protests in the wake of a white police officer killing an unarmed black man in the 21st Century United States. Mass marches and confrontations with police and (in some cases) the National Guard followed the ‘police-involved killings’ of Eric Garner (New York City in July 2014), Mike Brown (in Ferguson, Missouri in August 2014), Walter Lamar Scott (North Charleston, South Carolina in April 2015), Freddie Gray (Baltimore in April 2015), Philando Castille (Falcon Heights, Minnesota in July 2016), and Keith Lamont Scott (Charlotte, North Carolina in September 2016).

Familiar unrest on a massive scale

With the killing of Floyd, however, the response has gone beyond the usual ‘Black Lives Matter’ speeches, marches, and confrontations. Minneapolis has experienced four days and nights of civil disturbance, with over 100 buildings damaged or looted. The unrest has included popular break-ins to appropriate life necessities and other goods from corporate retail outlets (“looting”), and arson, including the remarkable burning down of the Minneapolis police precinct that was home base for the four cops complicit in Floyd’s death.

The city’s white mayor has been compelled to apologize for the killing, and Minnesota’s governor has acknowledged “institutional racism” even while deploying the National Guard to squelch the rebellion.

Donald Trump has used social media to threaten state-sanctioned mass murder by tweeting that “when the looting starts, the shooting starts” – a comment Twitter flagged for “glorifying violence.” Trump’s phrase is taken from southern segregationists cracking down on black protests since the 1960s,

As nobody in the mainstream US media wants to admit, looting is a regular and highly organized ruling-class activity in the US. The recent bipartisan $2.2 trillion coronavirus pandemic corporate bailout (passed with only a pittance of relief for the nation’s working-class majority) is just the latest example. “How much,” left activist Doug Selwyn writes me, “have the rich looted, that is, stolen through tax giveaways and bailouts... trillions... with no real protest?” (None, at least since the Obama administration and Democratic-run city governments moved to repress the Occupy Wall Street movement in the fall of 2011.)

look even stupider. After all, what could be stupider than believing Putin/Russia invented American racism and police violence.

While all forms of violence and looting distress me, at least it's understandable why those subjected to police violence and are poor would respond in kind. Unlike all those that order state violence at home and abroad and the wealthy people that keep looting state coffers and the people. They kill, maim, and steal by the millions for sport and a bigger bank accounts; they are the true psychopaths.

You know the greatest president since FDR.

Obama to Reinforce the Militarized Police Occupation of Black America

Protesters rejected the official mythology, that cops risk life and limb to “protect” the community. “They are not at risk. Police officers are the threat,” wrote BYP 100’s New York City chairperson Rahel Mekdim Teka. “Police do not keep us safe. Police do not protect us. They are the danger that keeps Black people unsafe.” Demonstrators at the two protest sites demanded action to “defund the police, and fund black futures.”

It is now common for protesters to demand that police funding be redirected to community social needs. This demand rejects the legitimacy of the armed occupation of Black communities, and makes a claim to control of the allocation of resources in those communities – a step towards self-determination.

President Obama, however, has diametrically opposite plans for these communities. According to the Reuters news agency, Obama is preparing to reverse his decision to ban the transfer of hundreds of millions of dollars in armored vehicles, battlefield weapons and riot gear to local police departments. The president reportedly agreed to review the restrictions after meeting with leaders of the Fraternal Order of Police and the National Association of Police Organizations.

Obama’s short-lived retreat from the federal government’s frenzied militarization of local police, announced with great fanfare in May of 2015, was his sole substantial concession to the movement that swept the nation after the rebellion in Ferguson, Missouri. The sight of armored vehicles and battle-ready cops on the streets of American cities was an international embarrassment for the United States – bad “optics” for the First Black President’s legacy. However, the sad truth is that Obama is responsible for the biggest escalation in the history of the one-sided war against Black America.

By 2014, the year that Michael Brown was shot down – and when the full Congress, including 32 members of the Congressional Black Caucus, rejected a bill that would have shut down the 1033 program – Obama was sending three quarters of a billion dollars, more than $787 million a year, in battlefield weaponry to local police departments. In other words, President Obama oversaw a 24-fold (2,400%) increase in the militarization of local police between 2008 and 2014. Even with the scale-back announced in 2015, Obama still managed to transfer a $459 million arsenal to the cops – 14 times as much weapons of terror and death than President Bush gifted to local police at his high point year of 2008.

This was not simply a “surge” in militarization of the police; Obama escalated the war against Black and brown communities by several orders of magnitude. Based on these numbers, Obama is the biggest domestic war hawk in the history of the United States – bigger than Bush, Clinton and all his predecessors since the genesis of the Black mass incarceration regime in the late Sixties.
~~~~
The Obama administration marks a new stage in the street war against Black and brown people – a war he escalated before the emergence of a new Black movement, rather than in response to it. Activists should dismiss, out of hand, the Obama administration’s propaganda about “community policing,” a catch-all for finessing an ever deeper police presence in Black communities. When Obama was earmarking $163 million for U.S. Justice Department “community policing” projects in 2015, he was simultaneously budgeting more than half a billion dollars for militarization of the police. Conclusion: Obama is willing to invest limited funds in cultivating more snitches, but he’s really gung-ho about outfitting the cops with tanks, machine guns and grenade launchers.
Let’s remember that the first black American president brought slavery to Libya too. Damn now that is some legacy don’t you think? And yet people are begging for Obama to address the nation because Trump is a bad man. Plus he’s orange.
Vote blue no matter who folks because democrats are your friends and republicans are not.
The clip, which was posted Saturday by BLM activist Shaun King, clearly shows one Minneapolis officer leaning inside the rear left passenger door, seemingly struggling with Floyd following his arrest for trying to use a fake $20 bill at a nearby store. Derek Chauvin, who was charged with murder after pinning Floyd by his neck and killing him, can be seen running around to the right side of the car.
By the end of the clip, Chauvin was in the position where he would eventually apply the hold to Floyd. But the video sheds more light on the struggle that ended with Floyd's death. All four officers involved in his arrest have been fired, and Chauvin was charged with murder.
It’s not obvious what they are doing inside the car though in my opinion.
@QMS @QMS responded to these legitimate protests. If they had, much needless violence and mayhem would have been avoided. Oh sure, there will always be a few who are out there to throw rocks, smash windows, and liberate pricey consumer junk, but they disperse quickly when there aren't many following their lead. What could be more powerless than torching a police vehicle? It will be quickly replaced and only means fewer public dollars for the community.
question everything
@Marie of dollars to settle lawsuits every year over police violations of people's civil liberties and Constitutional rights, including loss of life, and those lawsuits over people they've killed, or maimed, are in the tens of millions, and even more sometimes.
Taxpayers pay that, and like other professions why aren't they required to have insurance?
Cops would have to act better or no one would insure them, or at least not for long after enough big settlements were handed down by the Courts.
As it is now law enforcement pay nothing for their crimes against the very people who have to pay for their own unjust treatment.
Every year as cities and towns cut their budget because they don't have the money after being hit with the tab for rogue cops, and entire departments, actions against the people that they advertise they are there to "serve and protect".
One other thing worth noting is how the police department budgets are always rising, while anything for the "community" is always getting cut.
@aliasalias Yeah, the general public cares so much about that that they passively accept every diminishment of civil liberties that local, state, and federal governments pass.
No question that a lot of LEOs don't belong in that job and that the cop culture (including its approval in the general public) is toxic. They're insufficiently trained in deescalating conflict which is further subverted by cops 'juicing.' However, there are required to intervene in many violent situation not of their making. ie for good reason, cops hate DV calls.
WRT city payment settlements for wrongful X, many of those are appropriate either because the cop was a rotten apple or the department is rotten. Either way, corrective action should be taken including zero tolerance for any cop covering for another. OTOH, we're a nation of blamers ever ready to hold someone/something responsible and make him/her/it pay; zero tolerance for understandable mistakes, accidents, etc. (I suspect this is why many cops can't defend the killing of George Floyd. It wasn't a situation demanding a split second decision with no recourse or rethink, and several cops can easily restrain a suspect with no serious injuries to anyone.) ie Clinton/DP/DNC Russia/Putin. A lot of those payments (like many auto and medical insurance payments) fall into the category of nuisance suits that are cheaper to settle than defend. I don't think we want city officials to dismiss a good enough police officer over a nuisance suit.
and QMS, and for all the insightful comments you both contributed.
The vision of police en masse joining blacks in solidarity is a very potent image, and a great solution to quelling the more destructive behaviour all around. It leaves more room for possibility. What we need is a lot more imagination and mutual understanding to begin to even approach this fundamental American disease called racism.
U.S. House Speaker Pelosi backs bill aimed at protecting Hong Kong rights
June 19, 2019
Pelosi called the large demonstrations in Hong Kong “a beautiful sight to behold” adding that Chinese President Xi Jinping has been “really taking China backward in terms of repression.”
She said that under the extradition proposal that had been floated, people arrested in Hong Kong would be tried on the mainland. “They can cook up any charge on any person, including journalists; 5,000 Americans who are there doing business.”
moralistic statements about racism over the last couple of days, especially after spending some time reading about how he lied about his record on civil rights... not just lied, but made up a whole narrative that even his staff asked him to stop talking about. This man uses the black community for self advancement and political power. He's been getting away with it for years. What's even sadder is that the older generation of blacks generally do not see him for what he is (note Doug Wilder called him out for racism). The younger generation sees it.
But it's not just the elder black community who are clueless to Joe, it's the Democratic Party and its followers. The more I read about Biden's record, the sadder and more confused I get about Bernie continuing to call him a "friend".
