Steak out
Submitted by earthling1 on Tue, 12/17/2024 - 11:15am
I'll be late for my own funeral.
Sorry about the late post. Was up late last night with an evening dinner engagement with family.
We were at the best steakhouse in Portland, The Ringside, and I splurged and had a 12 Oz. Dry aged bone_in New York cut priced at $84.
What was the occasion?
My granddaughter and her SO were flying out today to spend Christmas with his parents in Iowa and will not return until after New Years.
I'm sure those steaks are cheaper in De Moines.
So, I'll open the thread with this.
What did I miss this morning?

Hope the steak was worth it!
Those late night gigs take a toll.
We don't spring back as quick no mo.
Thanks for picking up the pieces.

NJ Drone PSA
Hi all,
Just a quick PSA regarding the drone sightings in New Jersey, one of my favorite places. The well-named Garden State.
First a field guide:
This is alleged to be an actual photo from one of the drones.

Extreme weather event
forcast for Lewis County, Washington today. They are calling it an Atmospheric River bringing drenching rains and rising river levels.
The last time we had a storm like this I followed up the next day with a trip up to the farm to witness how high Otter Creek, which runs through my parcel, rose.
That was on December 23rd, 2019.
It was up about 2 ft. Which wasn't that bad, but what I saw shocked and delighted me.
Peering down the embankment, I saw a 2 ft. long salmon spawning with the smaller male dutifully following.
As I recall, the fingerlings grow and migrate downstream to the sea. They then spend 5 years out at sea before returning to where they were born.
I should make a trip up there and see if they've come home.

Good afternoon, e1!
A local Houston news story yesterday was about a Japanese restaurant that was now offering a bone in rib eye, special Japanese cut, for $1,000.00.
Well, whatever. I think I will pass.
I hope I am very late to my funeral, just sayin'...
Thanks for the OT, friend!

Probably Wagyu beef
Wiki says it's among four breeds of Japanese cattle bred for special marbling and tenderness.
I've been growing away from red meat for a few years now. But every once in awhile I'll splurge for a good T-bone, Porterhouse or Chateaubriand.
I haven't stopped eating red meat, just cut the portions down a lot.
I hope you are very late for your funeral too. I like having you around.
Thanks for stopping by.

Ringside
Not living in area anymore, but read where Ringside during lockdown decided to sell their steaks. The line went all the way up Burnside. It seems that over the years, the Portland area lost a lot of steak houses--just not popular anymore including those places where you got a free meal if you ate an insane porterhouse I believe it was. Is there any place that even serves prime rib anymore. Seems gourmet hamburgers has replaced the traditional steak in the area.
The Portland dining scene
has recovered magnificently. Plenty of room for growth too. Food courts are popping up everywhere offering some amazing new dishes.
The culinary school scene is thriving and turning out innovative chefs with a name to build.
It's starting to be fun again to go downtown Portland and the Vancouver waterfront.
Prime rib was on the menu last night.

Prime rib is still a thing around here
a huge slab of bloody meat with a baked tater
for about $20 on certain nights of the week.
Would consider it, if only to bring it home,
and slap it on the grill to finish cooking it.
