Friday Night Photos - At Last, Warm Weather edition
Submitted by Bollox Ref on Fri, 04/24/2020 - 5:48pm
Virus as maybe, but things are looking up. Fred's on the porch, soaking up the sun.
In the middle of cooking a Thai green curry, so this will be quick.
What with the recent stillness of life:
Glazunov's 1st piano concerto on in the background. If you like Russian stuff, this will turbo charge your tulips.

Thanks for Friday Night Photos tonight, BR.
Love the lighting on your still life shot.
Didn't get out with the camera this week so some shots from a few years ago.

Thanks SP
Any idea of the age of that Ghost Pine? It looks rather aged.

I screwed up.
The names of the two trees are the Ghost Cypress and the Lone Cypress. The Lone Cypress is believed to be about 250 years old. I don't know the age of the Ghost cypress.

Lone cypress lost the limb on the left
I used to have a picture of how it looks now, but I can't find it. Use your imagination? It got hit by lightening last year.
My mom and I went to all the places in your photos. First stop was the light house and ending at pebble beach. Fun memories, thanks for the trip.

Hey, Snoopy
I remember seeing something about the Lone Cypress losing a limb not to long ago. These photos were taken in 2013 on a drive I did with my dad and my sister.

17 mile drive is something to see isn't it?
Looking at how the other side lives in such luxury and surrounded by beauty. I think you either have to pay to drive it now or they closed it off to the ragtag folks.
My mom had come from Utah for an extended weekend and we stayed in Pacific grove just up from Monterey and saw the sites. She woke me up because she said she saw a dolphin swim by our room. lol I doubt she did. My friends said it was them with a cardboard one that they walked by our window.

Hi Social
The pelican migration photo is stunning, thanks.
Thank you, Janis.
Being able to see the Pelicans on their southern migration was really special.

Those photos, GLS!
Especially the first and the last one. The crisp, contrasting angles, colour and light are wonderful.
Thank you greatly.
oranges and blues
Good sign things are warming-up out your way.
The blue in the orange dish is striking.
The colors inspired me to dredge this up.
Thanks QMS

Hi QMS
That’s quite a cosy interior, is it a boat?
Yes they are
This one is pulled apart for some projects. When they are dressed up the are stunning. Thr The 30 year old rubbed effect teak lockers, trim and bulkheads have mellowed nicely over the years.
Cheers

Cheers to you always, and always.
Thanks for the great pix all!
Hi all, just a quick drive-by...
This is an Eastern Phoebe. Phoebes are flycatchers. Eastern Phoebe often nest under eaves around houses. It was likely one of the first birds ever banded in the U.S. John James Audubon tied a silver thread on the leg of the one that nested where he stayed in New Jersey to see if it was the same bird returning each year. It was.
I count four heads in this pic of our nest a few days ago. Actually they fledged the nest in the evening of 4/20, this pic taken that morning.
two of the juveniles a little closer.
Hope everyone is doing well! Play it safe!

Nice shots, dystopian.
How old were the birds when they fledged the nest?
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
for most songbirds...
Eggs are laid one a day, incubation is about 2 weeks, and then the fledging of the nest is a couple weeks after hatching. So for most of our songbirds are about two weeks since hatching and a month since egg was laid.
Bigger birds are often much slower from hatching to fledging. Can be months with say hawks or pelicans.
Other birds like quail or ducks, and sandpipers, are precocious, they hatch and bolt. They are on the run (or swim) day one.

Hi dystopian
Thanks heaps for the Audubon Phoebe story, and photos to show the star of the story.
Thanks for posting the POT, Bollox
I can’t imagine even the sun projecting as strong a sense of warmth as your photo does. And a Heron on a nest! Did any of that sunshine/orange go into your curry?
I still don’t have the means to post any of my photos, but to fill the space I’ll include a link to William Giles photos ...

Be well all.
Little love
My daughter and her daughter came home last Friday.
Is it great yet?
Thank you sincerely Jen,
for such a touchingly beautiful and intimate photo.
Enjoy!
Great news!
Yay for them getting out of hospital and home where they are more safe. Precious picture of their hands. Is the little bit doing okay?

She's perfect
That's my hand in the picture. I feel like I'm the luckiest Mimi in the world to have them here. My in-laws want to see her so badly but my daughter isn't ready to expose Little Bit to more people than she has to just yet. I don't blame her.

Just received this from my neighbour ...
