Some good night music
Submitted by on the cusp on Thu, 03/26/2020 - 2:11am
I am attempting to figure out some embeds.
Bear with me.
This is the song I played Mom and Dad to sleep with for years.
to which I owe my shelter in place.
And an extremely patient tech pal. (One who said if I ran away again, I would get spanked!)
Anyway, I remember having to sit on the very edge of my piano bench so I could reach the pedals.

Just never in any recital or competition.
I might dig through my music, find it and amuse myself today.
God only knows, I can't spend my next 3 weeks drinking beer all day!
Oh, wait!
Yes, I certainly can!

My piano peak was at age 19 when I performed the Ballade in G minor by Chopin. Then I married a guy who said, "you love the piano more than me." That was the end of the fabulous stuff. But now in my old age, I have taken up playing what I call "arthritis piano." I was losing it. But to take the time and effort to relearn classical works, well I just didn't have the time or energy. So now I just use scales, arpeggios, octaves, etc. and make shit up. Wow, what a difference it has made in my hands. They don't hurt anymore. And I have this 90-year-old concert grand piano my (new nice) husband rebuilt for me. Delightful. And maybe someday I will get around to doing some classical works again.

I think there are quite a few pianists here at c99.
I have "fingernails", not long, but too long to play anything well.
Sometimes while traveling, I will see a piano in the bar, hit a few licks of whatever comes to mind.
I need to get a repairman out to do a repair on my pedals, and tune it up.
My first embed!!!

Have you considered the wire-strung Irish folk harp? Your nails would be an asset rather than a liability!
Take the harp out of the coffin! [1]
Seriously: if you ever have the chance, plink on a wire-strung Irish folk harp. Notation's similar to the piano once the string tuned to middle C is identified (often dyed on the harp itself).
[1] Piano (n.): A perfectly good harp embedded in an expensive coffin!

I do not get manicures, but try to keep my hands "presentable" for public viewing.
My typical polish, if any, is clear.
For those un-agile hands, I suggest Brahms. Lots of chords. Easy peasy.
After you ducked, you came up to look, and a splattered you with whipped cream, (right on your forehead!) which I carry with me for such occasions.

Comments
I forgot.
Grim, but true.
It was played at their funerals, and my brother and I smiled.

A perfect embed.
This is one of the loveliest comments I've read in quite awhile.
Thanks for posting it.

Here's a quiet, contemplative piece by Alkan
His Prelude No.25 in C - Priere:

Gëzuar!!
from a reasonably stable genius.
Are you a pianist too?
Just wondering.

So you have a piano and still play?
So cool you played piano for your folks as did I. My dad's favorite was "Morning Mood." We are Norwegian so hence part of the appeal.

No fingernails, also because of gardening . . .
You travel and probably have nice manicures for business purposes. I understand.
But I would encourage you to fix your piano and just improvise for pleasure.

I know.
I usually take it slow and easy now when playing. Satie is always simple and such fun.

I love Satie
Yes.

Nary a Liszt Transcendental Etude?
The horror!!
Gëzuar!!
from a reasonably stable genius.
I played some Liszt, too!
Rachmaninoff was the toughest. He wrote for his hands, not mine!
Put it up, Bollox Relief! If I can embed, so can you !
Let's go Liszt!

Actually not a big fan of Liszt
Here's Busoni's take on Bach's Chaconne in D minor:
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sw9DlMNnpPM]
some parts I can play....... the very slow parts.
I have a recording of Busoni playing said piece. Quite magnificent.
Gëzuar!!
from a reasonably stable genius.
I never played that.
Uh...slow parts are good.

Liszt
Are we now starting a Liszt of what we can and cannot play?
[ducking]
"US govt/military = bad. Russian govt/military = bad. Any politician wanting power = bad. Anyone wielding power = bad." --Shahryar

The Liszt!!
Herr Trumpfenbahnhaltestelle is very aware of all of those on the liszt.
Be very careful whilst on the bus.

Harp in a coffin is absolutely correct!
