They realize that probably all of them have now been exposed to the virus. I hope it scares them enough they think about possibly "meeting their maker" in the near future. I hope before they all run and lock themselves away, they have a moment of insight and do some at least of the right things for the rest of us, like universal paid sick leave, and sending out cash to everyone, and picking up the tab for medical care for everyone for say the next year, etc.
I'm unsettled too. A group of neighbors are outside socializing, no distancing. They range in age from about 30 to 50s. They are going to get and spread Covid in my neighborhood. They are probably all middle low income, but I'm pretty sure they all know they aren't supposed to do it. I'm angry. If one of them needs a hospital bed or ventilator when there aren't enough to go around, they will get it and I, or some of my high risk neighbors won't because they are younger and healthier.

The bio-engineering angle is not the topic of Escobar's essay. However, he mentions the fact of it in his opening paragraphs and gives a pretty good summary of the ongoing investigation. I am not familiar with the scientific evidence, but those who speak of it find it credible. I have been following the story for some time and have seen it referenced in many places. It has caused a public spat. The US State Department is engaging in an international argument over the allegations with counter-accusations of their own. I haven't delved into the ultimate genetic tracing of this CoV-1 variant. This represents the best way to trace the origins of the strain(s) currently ravaging the world. Epidemiology investigations were initiated too late in the sequence of disease passage to detect Patient zero. Currently George Webb has been highlighting Maatje Bernassi as patient zero. I have not checked his conclusion out. If this is true, then the origin COVID-19 can be affirmatively identified.
Until then, I shall do two things:
1. refrain from attribution of a geographic location of the virus, even whether ChiComs call it a Western Plot--who knows, it could be. Don't put anything past the neocons.
2. incriminated virus shall be referred to by me in future writings to COVID-19.
Another issue is the seriousness with which I communicate should be judged by content, not contiguity to other non-medical comments. When I discuss medical issues, I do not mislead by intention. The above genetic genealogy of the virus is an enlarging feature of knowledge. This knowledge may have been known years ago but definitely intimate virology which all of us are practically coerced by life and death to follow. Know your enemies. Your medical writing has always worked well for me. It's a familiar language and many here are technically fluent, surprisingly enough. Facts are facts.
