TOS Owner: "[The] CIA is a very liberal institution"

I recently wrote about my experiences at TOS regarding what appeared to be organized groups of trolls. In the comments' thread, CTPatriot posted a Sourcewatch link to a profile of TOS owner with a reference to a June 6, 2006 speech he gave at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, wherein he said very nice things about the CIA.

Although I have long suspected that there is professional-level type of propaganda at the site, where text-book examples of "propaganda techniques" can be seen by the careful observer, I had to admit I hadn't known about this speech. Once I listened to it last night I was shocked!

I can't even being to express the type of cognitive dissonance a real progressive, a real, legitimate social justice activist would have to experience in order to be able to claim that the CIA is a liberal institution, and that their role is to help bring about world stability.

I encourage readers to check out the latest book by David Talbot, "The Devil's Chessboard: Allen Dulles, the CIA, and the Rise of America's Secret Government." Here's part of a review of the book:

Dulles’s decade as the director of the CIA—which he used to further his public and private agendas—were dark times in American politics. Calling himself “the secretary of state of unfriendly countries,” Dulles saw himself as above the elected law, manipulating and subverting American presidents in the pursuit of his personal interests and those of the wealthy elite he counted as his friends and clients—colluding with Nazi-controlled cartels, German war criminals, and Mafiosi in the process. Targeting foreign leaders for assassination and overthrowing nationalist governments not in line with his political aims, Dulles employed those same tactics to further his goals at home, Talbot charges, offering shocking new evidence in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Let that sink in for a second... As I mentioned in my previous post, TOS has been kind of out-of-mind-out-of-sight for the last two-plus years since I stopped posting there. Hopefully that would demonstrate to people that have had no personal vendetta against the site or the owner since my departure.

However, during the last couple of weeks, when I visited the site again (motivated by comments I saw here at Caucus99Percent), I was horrified to see that the trolling and again, what appears to be professional-level propaganda techniques have only gotten worse.

You (the reader) don't have to agree with me, but now more than ever I'm totally convinced that the site is heavily infiltrated by pro-establishment operatives (be it Democratic party establishment trolls, CIA or national security trolls, or corporate trolls).

What really bothers me about that (if true) is that we're talking about psychological warfare; a cognitive weapon. I think about good-hearted people, people of goodwill who are offended by what they are seeing in society regarding corruption, the capture of government institutions by corporate cartels, the massive evictions going on, homelessness, and all the social ills as a result of the country transitioning into an oligarchy. And I think about this person finding TOS and initially thinking she found a liberal or progressive oasis in the midst of all the madness. As as she engages and seeks the truth, and tries to find a path forward, connect with other progressives and social justice activists, her senses are then hit with the incongruity of the true nature of site: a pro-establishment propaganda tool.

When it comes to the progressive movement, there can't be a greater betrayal and failure of leadership than pretending to be one thing while working against that stated purpose in the background.

UPDATE: Someone mentioned they found some of the imagery of the video offensive. I agree. I will try to find another video or audio file. In the meantime, please know that I also find some of the imagery the producers of the video used offensive. One option is to just listen to the audio without watching the video. Again, I'll try to find another asap.

I enjoy debunking "professional-level propaganda techniques" as much as anybody, however my preferred approach to DKos is spend my time elsewhere and let them have their pro-Hillary bubble. It will be like the Willard ("Mitt") Romney campaign and their "unskewed" polls. I was amazed to learn that Romney genuinely thought he would win in 2012. He was believing his own propaganda.

It sounds as though TOP was created expressly to corral and indoctrinate the rabble-rousing left when Howard Dean got them fired up in 2004...

Which is when I and a lot of others joined, thrilled to find a place where other progressives where sharing thoughts and ideas. And if I look at that as a deliberate siren call by the CIA to get a large number of us together so they could study and slowly shift the viewpoints of us as a group...

I believe it. I believe it to the extent I'm a actually nauseous. I've only gone back to TOP to read BNR since March 12, but this is making me rethink even that. I don't want to go anywhere near it. Ever again.

on this for many years. I've read hundreds of documents at WikiLeaks, most of the articles about the Snowden files, books about the CIA, about research they have conducted (and continue to conduct). I've found so much material (academic, research-level material) that I've come to certain conclusions and developed certain hypotheses. However, having said that, I would not venture to share all those conclusions because yes, some of them may look fantastical (in the true meaning of that word).

Regardless, I'd say this: these people (national security apparatus) have invested an incredible amount of time and resources in the development of techniques to manipulate the population.

Unless we can put the 'National Security Apparatus' back UNDER the constitution. Seriously, can anyone point out to me where it says that National Security issues invalidate the Bill Of Rights?
I believe that there are a number of kinds of CT.
(not a complete list and in no particular order)
1. CT that is a given truth.
2. CT that is probable.
3. CT that is scary and hopefully untrue.
4. CT that is garbage
5. CT designed to entertain and distract.

It's scary to be a voice in the wilderness in the 'day's of the drone', no?

i was immediately suspicious when I joined in 2006 and we couldn't speculate about 9/11 and any BushCo / neocon connection.

i thought: what? we're screaming about impeaching Bush, he's lying, he may have stolen the election in 2000 and letting 9/11 happen is like a bridge too far??????

i've always taken the place with a grain of salt after that. but it's not just there. any dogmatic political types will do the same, no matter what side you think they're on.

this place will work if it keeps the politics as a topic and not a mission. keep to the issues, inform, give us what we need to make cogent rebuttals not only cogent but effective.

and that comes with a more free exchange and ability to comment back and forth. it is a road test, if you will, of how we think, people reacting and helping to expand your thinking, and of course having some of it shattered and flying back at you... these are all good things.

someone was calling for a progressive party. i said: omg, nooooooooo. let's do what occupy did: keep it a movement, fluid, and filled with ordinary people and great activist groups working together. using the net. learning how to talk to people in our communities.

partisanship is a big pile of stinking poop, as far as i'm concerned.

and kudos to C99P: just a "thumbs up" w/o names and a "most voted" list at the bottom of the new entries. i like it.

It's been so long since I listened to the audio of TOS owner (I have to get used to calling him that) I had forgotten about his calling the CIA a liberal institution and force for good in the world. That's the kind of irony that makes your head explode (metaphorically speaking, although JFK might not see it that way were he here).

Huge mistake to allow the CIA to be anything other than an intelligence gathering outfit. Mike Lofgren, former GOP staffer who saw the light and left the party, has written articles on the deep state and shadow government. There are times I truly feel that the government has spun completely out of our control and anyone who seriously challenges the status quo will end up like JFK, RFK, MLK, Paul Wellstone and Michael Hastings. I really hope that Bernie has good protection if he wins the nomination.

In case you all haven't seen it yet, Obama endorsed DWS today in her primary against real progressive and Berniecrat Tim Canova. He called DWS a progressive haha. Here's how you respond to that:

Essay: "Anatomy of the Deep State"

There is the visible government situated around the Mall in Washington, and then there is another, more shadowy, more indefinable government that is not explained in Civics 101 or observable to tourists at the White House or the Capitol. The former is traditional Washington partisan politics: the tip of the iceberg that a public watching C-SPAN sees daily and which is theoretically controllable via elections. The subsurface part of the iceberg I shall call the Deep State, which operates according to its own compass heading regardless of who is formally in power.

military nixing the deep state's horrible plans. In apartheid South Africa, the deep state wanted to bring down Armageddon to prevent the politicians making peace with Nelson Mandela (blessed be he forever). The generals stepped in and said no, they would keep the Army in the barracks if ordered to attack. The same happened in numerous East European Bloc countries the late 80s and early 90s. So there's that little bit of hope. Best wishes and love that avatar!

on the dog damned bastards.

The question is whether there are enough conscious human beings left to grasp the point? (With the notable exception of c99's membership Smile The U.S. was able to win the space race in 6 years from Kennedy's gauntlet. The disinvestment in public education since Reagan has been simply astounding. It has been a quite unbelievable experience during my lifetime to see a nation dumbed down, on purpose, so fast. To go from a nation of science, that dominated the Nobels for most of a century, to the nation of imbeciles on par with the Roman Colliseum crowd on feast days is quite a story.

Forgive my cynicism today. Just got back from an hour walk with the dog in the cold spring rain. The damp hurts my old back and apart from that I really don't have an excuse Sad The dog damned bastards wrecked my life and I look forward to getting my hands around their throats one day in hell.

it is important to reach to average people (again). I've shared this before:

Social movements involve a long-term struggle between the movement and the powerholders for the hearts, minds, and support of the majority of the population. Before social movements begin, most people are either unaware that a problem exists or don’t believe that they can do anything about it. They believe the powerholder’s societal myths and support the high-sounding official policies and practices, all of which seem to be consistent with the culture’s deeply held held values and beliefs…

~snip~

The strategy of social movements, therefore, is to alert, educate, and win over an ever increasing majority of the public. First the public needs to be convinced that a critical social problem exists. Then it must be convinced that policies need to be changed. And then a majority of people must be mobilized into a force that eventually brings about an acceptable solution.

my tone and words. G*d bless the work you do.

One of the most infuriating things about Americans in general is their ignorance of history. Most everything that happens to Americans is "the first time ever in history." It pisses off the rest of the world like you cannot imagine. And when we tell them a bit of history they're most often offended. I caught some of that in your tone. And I don't like it.

If you want to talk about conscientization of the masses another day when I'm calmer, it could be profitable for us both. Best wishes,

I don't really know enough about psyops, etc. to say whether there's a deliberate black ops program going on at TOS. But it always did make me wonder whether TOS owner had ulterior motivations when I learned he had been at CIA. Hard not to have even greater suspicions with his transition from gate crasher to gate guard.

Honestly the whole DNC/HRC campaign against Bernie feels like one giant psyops program with the willing participation of the media. The most glaring example is the meme regarding March 15th as the date when Bernie should realize it's over and his supporters unite behind Hillary. That didn't originate at TOS. It originated with DNC/HRC and the media. But it was quite the revelation to see TOS owner join in on the attempted manipulation, which was clearly intended to dampen enthusiasm and suppress turnout heading into Bernie's best states.

Whether it's psyops or not, the obvious lesson here is TOS is really about protecting the Democratic Party establishment and not at all about progressive reform, regardless of what TOS owner may claim. It used to be subtly obvious. Now it's glaringly obvious. Hopefully obvious enough now that even newbies can see through it.

The deep state actors everywhere know this too: they're all trying to to just enough to make the right connections to wealth and then get out while the going is still good. Except for the psychopaths, who are there firstly for the fun of the kill.

After the republic, the empire. It's a story as old as humanity. The U.S. is now in the same place the Soviets were in the early 80s and the Romans were as Caesar marched east from Gaul to the Rubicon. Everyone knows it's all gonna fall soon; the deep state actors (of which the Clintons are prime movers) are trying to squeeze out the last profits and get out before the fall.

When the Christianist nutbars took over the GOP, they destabilized the balanced internal system of the U.S. deep state. It's easy for the deep state to orchestrate their ISIS creation ("Oh say, could we have something blow up news coverage of the Paris climate conference?" "Why, I have just the little cell for that.") And stable worlds aren’t created by destabilizing regimes and by starting wars, there’re done so by other methods, assassinating labor leaders, and, you know, that can get ugly at times, but, generally speaking, I think as an organization their hearts in the right place. nothing new under the sun for almost any sociopolitical situation. However, in every era it is very important for those who care about social justice to stay alert in figuring out exactly how the "current" ruling elite is manipulating, controlling and exploiting the population.

Once that knowledge is acquired, the next step is to share it and explain it to those who for one reason or another may not be fully aware of the situation.

Reacting with a "there is nothing knew here" tends to minimize the importance of the information.

I clearly and repeatedly talk in this thread about learning from history to apply to today. I did my master's thesis on conscientization in South America against the U.S.-backed (yes, your dog damned tax money at work.) Most Americans don't know there is a South America and that your country damn near destroyed it after WW2 in it's greed for its resources. Remember, "a republic, if you can keep it." Oh, dog damnit you probably don't even know that. Jeebus H Christ, get it right.

easier to see the latest manifestation of this common human evil. You see the deep state at work faster and easier if you know the pattern. I come with the personal experience of being sucked in and duped myself. I'm an army vet with counter-insurgency tours and ptsd. Learning history helped me see that I wasn't an exceptionally mutton headed youngster, but just one in a line that goes from me to Saturn.

When I run across a Lofgren, I applaud and welcome him to the fraternity of people who see. Please don't mistake my angry tone: talk of the deep state is a trigger for me. I want to help spread awareness; it just pisses me off that I wasn't clairvoyant as a youngster. That's all. The work you do in raising awareness is invaluable and highly important. Please don't think I'm being critical of you. I'm happy to add my angry voice to all the support you deserve for bringing us this work.

Unfortunately the Internet lends itself to this sort of thing. Even before, people had an unfortunate tendency to believe things just because they saw them in print, and it has carried over. People need to learn to be better critical thinkers. It is, in a way, a failure of education.

But here's the deal. If you're actually a progressive (I prefer populist), then you already know that shit like domestic surveillance is bad. When you read others hyping it you know that the site is corrupted. So you read around the corruption and find other worthwhile pieces of information. Eventually, you find your way here.

Of course, this site also will become infiltrated if it becomes large enough to be a target. That is the war we are waging. We can't wish it away. We have to vote it away. In the mean time, to quote a great line, "The truth is out there". That's about the best we can hope for.

the rest of sanity that I may had left in my mind. (Just saying that the visuals of that video are not necessary, the words of Markos do "fine" all be themselves.

Over the weekend I tried to go through old comments of mine over at TOS. Let me just say beforehand, I do NOT accept the fact that people, who are banned (deliberately banned themselves like me, or those who have been banned because of "inappropriate diaries or comments" by the owner's police force) can't delete their comments and diaries. If I had the means and knowledge I would sue all corporations like twitter, facebook and other blogs for making it impossible to get their own content erased and accounts closed.

That being said, I have little memory of what I was involved with when I started commenting on TOS. It was April 2004. It was war and Keith Olbermann the only news talking head I respected back then. I needed some "truth speakers" and it seemed that dailykos could deliver some. But I knew from very early on that I had not much respect for Markos' political writing.

By 2006 I wondered about the whole set-up. You may not be able to imagine my amazement when I learned that Meteor Blades, who is one of the founding fathers of FP writers from 2003 on, never met Markos in person til 2009. I found that very irritating and couldn't quite grasp that people can work for other people, who they have never met. This comment exchange was in 2006.

I wonder what Meteor Blades would have thought about Markos CIA speech or if he had knowledge about it.

Anyhow, I had my instinct feelings early on. Here a couple of comments I made between 2004 to 2006. Nothing much has changed. Irritatingly so.
------------------------------------------------------
Here is an emotional comment I made already in 2004. I haven't changed my mind about it.

mimi Nov 13 · 10:43:11 PM (2004)
Comment from an Ex-German in Washington well, it's actually not that far fetched for some US immigrants to believe that you first need to get killed before you can actually honorably become an American citizen.
I have never written that in public, but your diary triggered a nerve and I just don't want to swallow this down anymore.

The most emotionally hurting and in my opinion deeply disrespecting thing Bush did, was to go to Walter Reed hospital and have a photo-op with young wounded immigrant (mostly from Latin American) soldiers, of whom Bush knows quite well that they enlisted only to get their citizenship a little bit earlier than usual and to make a buck to put some food into their mouth.

Bush posed beside those wounded without limbs and listened with sorrow-burdened face to the soldiers who, to his great satisfaction, just couldn't help but admit how "happy they would be to go back to Iraq and fight for America's freedom and security" - any time again - if they just would be given the possibility to do so.

This is, IMO an unforgivable emotional exploitation of those young soldier's situations and for President Bush to broadcast those scenes and use it as propaganda tool has caused nothing but deep resentments in me against him. You just don't do such thing, Mr. President, it's more than just a cheap shot. Period.

I mean, we all know, how thrilling it is to get rewarded with the US citizenship, after one has proven one is worthy of this country's great legacy by going to war and sacrifice your life and legs for it.

It's a thrill I have a real problems with. We have seen in the past exploitation of youngsters and teenagers at the end of WWII and there is a lot of propaganda in the US media, which just reminds me of too often of things happened in the past.

Some (very few Americans) actually understand how young men in 1944-45 were emotionally manipulated to adore the "Fuehrer" and his cause, how they have been made to feel "happy to die for the Fuehrer" before they were sent into suicide missions at the end of the war.

Osama is preparing his fighters mentally to be willing martyrs for the greater Jihad or whatever, young Americans are mentally prepared to be willing to die for the cause of "freedom" of other people, who (sadly and tragically enough) actually don't want to get their own freedoms be defined and taken care of by American soldiers.

Well, sorry, I am just deeply disappointed.

I sometimes just wished all those Scarboroughs and other similar types in this media-driven nation, would have lived through WWI and WWII on the European side. I would help them to get rid of their brand-marked idea of being the White Knight Freedom and Democracy Defenders of the world for the next millenia or so. Some people in the media have deep shit on their hands and it will take a while til they will be able to wash it off.

Broadcasting on cable network news how "happy" Bush is to reward these soldiers with the US citizenship" is "yucky-yack manipulation".

Would it be possible to think that some people are not proud anymore to fight in the US Armed Forces under the current commander in chief and Secretary of Defense? How about getting rid at least of the latter?

I just wonder about what the Americans are so proud of? About being so intelligent to not understand Intelligence reports or just disregard them because they don't fit into their ideological make up? About the way the power hungry go about their heart's and mind's God given mission to liberate the world from evil and terror? About their deficits, their unproductivity, their messy bureaucracy, exactly about what? How about having tens of thousands millions depressed people, drugged people, religious fanatics, insecure kids?

I am not bashing the millions of Americans, whom I respect so much, because they cope so well to live in their difficult country.

I just don't get it. They really seem to think that you can't be free and happy anywhere else than in America? Victims of their own propaganda. What a sad thing to watch.

Sorry, this diary somehow touched some nerves. You have no idea how much I resent US propaganda these days. As if the world wouldn't have enough people, who abuse their freedom fighting missions to the extent to kill a lot of innocents and take a lot of freedoms away of those, who survive their "insurgencies" into civilian's livelihoods.

The writer is right about a lot of things, especially that it will become harder and harder to cross the Atlantic in good will and reunite.

Quite frankly to a couple of Europeans some Americans look quite emotionally disturbed. In the end I would say there is resentment from those in Europe, who don't know how much hardship middle class Americans go through to make a living and raise their families. Those who know, feel more of a sad sympathy, a kind of sympathy you would have toward someone, who was hit with some unusual hardship and has gone almost mad over it.

I wonder if I regret later on to have made this comment. Don't be offended, it's just an attempt to be honest about what some European by-standers feel these days about the US in comparison to Europe - and their forthcoming relations. Basically it's deeply saddening.

At that time I had my son still in the Air Force, he was stationed at that time in Korea. And he had gotten his citizenship by the end of 2003. And we learned he had lost his German citizenship by accepting the American one, due to a change of laws in Germany we didn't know about.

Oh, and there is another comment I found and chuckled over. From 2005 - Strange how your first instincts are mostly right to the point, no?
I had already the feeling about HRC's hawkishness in foreign policies apparently and didn't trust her for that reason, but I think I was kind in my wording ...

mimi Jan 18 · 12:41:23 AM (2005)
I am unmoved emotionally by Hillary Clinton but if she would win the primaries and run I wouldn't work against her and support her.
I don't trust she could handle foreign policies in a way I would like the next candidate to be able to, so I wouldn't support her in the primaries.

I would support Kerry again for I trust he can communicate well with other nations. Dean would be great for DNC. That's a place where one has to speak up and show spine and convince to get the democratic ducks in line. I think he could do that.

And I guess the divisions I felt between the identity activists on dailykos with regards of "color" got me somehow a bit upset too, early on. And obviously nobody liked me saying that. But I still think that way.

mimi Mar 27 · 06:07:29 PM (2005)
white woman reading blog of color ... ? who'd thought that? Did I even want to know?

Nah, no, really, what was that for? You see, the only split I can see is between:
outrageously good writers
outrageously knowledgable writers
outrageously thoughtful writers
outrageously ranting writers
outrageously naive people who should never write (ring, ring, knock, knock .. )
outrageously nice people writing very nice thingies
outrageously unhappy people needing to write about sad things
outrageously good doing do-gooder writer

And all the colors, if you spin them just fast enough, end up grey. So pseudo-scientifically spoken this article seems to be located in a grey zone.

Recommended 0 times

Ok, whatever, I think I am pretty much at the end of the tunnel and don't see much light. I just regret to have become so dependent on reading comments and diaries on dailykos. It just didn't help much. I wonder when I am ready to kick the habit altogether.

His apologia for the CIA sounds very much like Gloria Steinem's discussion of her association with the CIA.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HRUEqyZ7p8]

I had the conventional liberals view of the CIA as a right-wing, incendiary group - and I was amazed to discover that this was far from the case - that they were enlightened, liberal, non-partisan activists of the sort who characterized the Kennedy administration for instance.

Ray McGovern used to be an analyst for the CIA. In the excellent documentary Counterintelligence, he discusses how the CIA itself is compartmentalized and agents in one department can be setting up undercover operations that are being monitored without knowledge of their inside status by the analysts in another department. He said that it appears wholly dysfunctional at a certain distance. I postulate that the dysfunction actually has a purpose at an even higher distance, but then I own my special level of paranoid cynicism.

Orwellian Rabbit Hole. Steinem's interview here is the rabbit hole.
You all knew this before? No one bothered to smack me upside the head and scream 'Wake the fuck up'?
I've long believed that most celebrities and news people were CIA.
Still, this is shocking to me.
Isn't the CIA prohibited by charter and law from operating in the USA?
She's protesting politically at the direction of the CIA in the USA?
Have all our progressive leaders been in the employ of the CIA?
Am I the only one left who's not CIA? Don't answer that, how can I trust any answer now?

Sorry I'm freaking here, it just struck me that all my greatest fears for people on earth are very probably real and happening.

All of the above. You (we) have no idea how deep the deception goes. If we had a 100% understanding of how these dark forces are manipulating us (using the corporate media as a weapon, and using psychographic dossiers, bribery, co-opting, and a million other ways), it would boggle the mind. It has reached science fiction levels.

Look up the Minerva project to see what I mean, it uses websites, think tanks, colleges and other sources to work out ways to identify, catalogue, track people who do not share views that go along with the established parties or the corporate dominated society we exist inside of. I am not a fan of his and can't stand his authoritarian following of Dem party. But I am going to play the Devil's advocate here : People evolve/change all the time. IIRC, Glenn Greenwald wrote an anti-immigrant screed way back ~2006 or so. I have seen people digging that out & attack him at Koslandia. Greenwald himself addressed it later. Without denying KOS' support for liberal warmongering, could it be that he changed his views about CIA lately? I knew/know people who in their idealist(naive too) days, think they can move into a corrupt institution and "make a difference", only to realise later they had been wrong (and of course, some change themselves to "fit in"). And lots of people compromise and take up jobs in the corporate sector, for example, hoping they can put their earning to better use. And I am not denying the possibility that he still thinks the same and maybe playing sheep dog/propaganda arm. Just my 2 cents.

How is it possible for any liberal icon at his level to say what he said about the CIA in 2006, a full 4 years after launching the site?

That's one aspect of this. The other one, which is my own and don't expect everybody to agree with me, is that I've come to the conclusion that among the push-and-pull of campaigns, and the nastiness that sometimes takes place (organically), and the trolling, and all that stuff, I've come to the conclusion that there is also some level of professional cognitive infiltration going on at the site.

African person, who doesn't believe that every American working in their consulates or embassies in various African countries, as well as may be nowadays for non-for profit organizations, are working in whatever capacities for the CIA.

It's actually completely irrelevant, if that is a correct assumption or not, the fact that they do believe that being the case, is enough.

It's even more irrelevant, because as Africans do believe that to be true, they give out information that is wanted against a price, independent of the information being something worth or not. It's a perfect match. Nobody trust anybody, that's why everybody is lying to their teeth for the right price.

So, you have the sewer pools stinking against your reasonable mindset all the time.

Why even care, if there is some level of professional cognitive infiltration going on TOS (or here?) What would it help you to know? Chomsky said in one of his interviews he likes the "non educated" average citizens, because even without all the knowledge academically trained people have to make smart analysis etc, they have an amazingly unfailing sense to know when they are "trolled" and "manipulated".

The reason why people "accept" that shit treatment (being manipulated as you are considered naive or plain ignorant of facts etc) is because they are scared, they need the job's money for survival, they feel ashamed to be an outsider, or they feel triggered to play a "role" that gives them "something special in comparison to the next fellow neighbor". Anything for standing out as something.

I really am not interested in knowing who someone is, online. It has no worth knowing, because it could all be nonsense, a fairy tale or something worse. The technology of the internet as it is applied today, is an utterly destructive tool. I can't imagine that there won't be wars going on over that technology. People will be so mad and so addicted and so dependent on it, that in the end there is nothing else left than to destroy it or make the internet safely managable for the individual, which I do not believe will ever happen.

Just my 2 cents of hate for the internet and a dollar of my own addiction to it.
