Republic of Texas $50.00 (fifty dollars) ''redback'' note
-

Tejas

On March 2, 1836, a gathering of Texians declared the independence of "The Republic of Texas", as of that date recognized by no one, and almost immediately applied to the US government for annexation. Texas was annexed by the US and become the 28th state on December 29, 1845, having been a free and independent republic for, at most, 9 years, 9 months and 27 days. Texas and Texans (no i) celebrate their brief independence every year on March 2, and why not, they were, if only briefly, once independent.

created the periodic table.

Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeléev, a Russian chemist, was the most important contributor to the early development of the periodic table. In 1869, after the rejection of Newlands Octave Law, Mendeleev Periodic table came into the picture. In Mendeleev’s periodic table, elements were arranged on the basis of the fundamental property, atomic mass, and chemical properties. During Mendeleev’s work, only 63 elements were known. After studying the properties of every element, Mendeleev found that the properties of elements were related to atomic mass in a periodic way. He arranged the elements such that elements with similar properties fell into the same vertical columns of the periodic table.

I thought Texas was STILL independent - they have that commercial - TEXAS, A WHOLE OTHER COUNTRY! Fooled me!

Interesting how many musicians that affected my teens and twenties were born on this day.

No precipitation this week - highs reaching high 50's low 60's. Ah, I can breathe! Not looking forward to springing forward on Sunday. Oh, well.

Enjoy the day, folks! Pleasantry

The stock market went into free fall.

Biden had an overwhelming victory in South Carolina. The market's bouncing back.

If the Super Tuesday elections aren't stolen, I expect a resumption of the market plunge. The corporate overlords don't really care about the coronavirus, but they're terrified at the prospect of being brought up on charges.

Just sayin', y'all. Smile

Warren is a republican still. Sure she talks a good game about Biden's heinous bankruptcy bill, but then she blew that away when she endorsed Her after giving he sh*t for years on it.
And now people are saying that she should be Joe's VP. Sure let's just overlook the fact that she said she got into politics because of how bad the bankruptcy bill was. Selective amnesia.

We had 13 call outs at the store, which is a ridiculous amount. Saturday night partying? Or the flu? Or a combination of both? Either way, it was definitely a first. Was greeted by a manager when I clocked in with a thank you and a packet of vitamin C. As these things happen, our staffing deficit was challenged by one of the busiest sales day I remember for this time of year. Which basically meant that while people were in a panic stockpiling foodstuff for the "end of the world", we didn't nearly have the staff needed to keep the shelves stocked. At some point, it didn't matter because we just didn't have the back stock to replenish. Entire sections were blown out early and while there is a logic in seeing the can goods and non perishables disappearing from the shelves, can anyone explain why our entire stock of tofu sold out? It was a frantic day and we were all completely exhausted at the end of it. Misty rain all day turned into angry winds all night. Forgot to bring my table umbrella in and had to retrieve it from the neighbors yard this morning. On top of which, I woke up feeling a bit blue as my brain finally comprehended that the absence I feel from Pierre death is gonna hang around for awhile. I don't know why, but I think a part of me didn't expect the absence to feel so permanent.

I knew for years that my brother was going to die and I thought I was doing everything to get ready for it. Big surprise when it still hit me like a bat out of hell. I remember thinking 3 years after he died that yes I knew that he would, but I didn't think it would last this long.

The blue days will come and go and the only way to deal with them is to deal with them. Acknowledge that you are sad and tell yourself that it is okay to be sad because you lost a very important part of your life.

It's been over 4 months since Abby traveled over the rainbow bridge and last week I woke feeling horribly blue. Such a huge hole she left, but that's because she filled one. I still think I have to be careful walking to the bathroom so I don't trip over her. Keep sharing your thoughts of Pierre. I am here for you. I can share your grief and maybe make it less for you.

Once upon a time comments like this would get you bojo'd the minute you hit submit. Instead it got 4 rec's. No wonder it's in free fall.

If Bernie wanted to control his fuct up thug army he would. No time for the shit. And fuk Nina Turner. So, she’s black. She nasty as well. Using Sen. in front of her name don’t elevate her to a respectable or likable person. Bernie should never have asked her or any other women of color to speak for him.

This is endearing isn't it?

Bernie dead-ender purists who refuse to see the forest for the policy trees can then be written off as cult-of-personality dead-enders, more interested in watching a movement flail about than do the serious work of cobbling together factions.

meanwhile at HuffPo there's this odd reporting:

But Klobuchar’s more moderate proposals on climate change and health care never picked up much support, while bold, progressive ideas from Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) helped propel them to the top of the crowded primary field.

is Warren at or near the top of the field? So at the top that she gets mentioned before Bernie?

'Loyal Soldier'? Ahead of Super Tuesday, Pete Buttigieg to End Presidential Bid

As progressive journalist Branko Marcetic responded to the news, "The most lasting legacy of Buttigieg's run was in existing only to hobble Biden's campaign right out the gate. Dropping out is him being the loyal soldier. The right career move, but the damage may already have been done."

Wonder what deal Pete struck with Biden. Sure they're working on Klobuchar now.

The play is simple: make an offer to the centrists to stand aside for Biden. Warren stays in to peel progressives away from Bernie. Our votes split. We lose. Because they consolidated and we didn't

Here is Bernie's BFF Liz deriding him. She is only in it to now derail his candidacy and by damn she is going to. This is why she is still in while the centrists drop like flies.

Some trivia...

My father's French ancestor, who was a fur/hide trader, settled in far east Texas in the late 1820's and married a Caddo Indian woman. (Pronounce CAD-do) The Caddo tribe have been in Texas much much longer.

The Caddos came to East Texas from the Mississippi Valley around 800 A.D. Their territory included parts of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and East Texas. At the height of their mound-building culture - around 1200 A.D. - the Caddos numbered 250,000 people.

The term Tejas or Texas, is a Caddo word!

The Hasinai were made up of several tribes organized into a confederacy. They called the confederacy the Tejas. Tejas is the Spanish spelling of the Caddo word and it is pronounced Te-haas. Sound familiar? TEXAS!!! Yup, Texas is a Caddoan word. It means "those who are friends". The Tejas Caddo tribes were all "friends".

On government forms that ask what race am I, I usually check the box "other", and write in Texan. Drinks

Heck, I didn't even find out about the "link" until my oldest brother died in 2009 and I reading through some of his historical research and manuscripts about our family's history, including where we came from and how our family was affected by the civil war. Some fought with the union as "terrorists", raiding confederate camps and supply lines, and others were confederate soldiers, conscripted into service. But none of our family owned slaves.

My oldest brother was basically an amateur historian, especially anything about Texas. He loved Texas. He would always celebrate March 2. He even got a tattoo of Texas on his left shoulder. He loved writing letters to the editors and state officials, blasting them for being idiots and pointing historical facts when they fucked them up.

Some Texas slang (mine anyway...)

Anything over a few feet in distance but less than a mile = over yonder

Anything over a mile = out yonder ways, usually in reference to a tree, bend in the creek, and or wind mill or oil well.

Texas Adverb = Fixing too

The term y'all, while not strictly Texan, is more politically correct and inclusive of everybody, then any other....

Why bless your heart = Fucking idiot (can be used with other pronouns, his, her, your, their or proper nouns like names, Why bless Ted Cruz's heart)

Agreement, with a friend about non-compliance = I ain't too neither

I'm only a redneck, because the hair on my neck, is actually red...

Authority for Rebellion against the current crop of corrupted officials in our government.

Texas Constitution, Art 1. Sec. 2

Section 2 - INHERENT POLITICAL POWER; REPUBLICAN FORM OF GOVERNMENT
All political power is inherent in the people, and all free governments are founded on their authority, and instituted for their benefit. The faith of the people of Texas stands pledged to the preservation of a republican form of government, and, subject to this limitation only, they have at all times the inalienable right to alter, reform or abolish their government in such manner as they may think expedient.

I'm hoping to start a new political party in Texas sometime soon, The Soviet Socialist Party of Texas. Our Mission is to secede Texas from the Union, and become The Soviet Socialist Republic of Texas. And then invite President Putin to open up diplomatic relations between the SSRT and Russia.

You think that might be enough to make Ted Cruz's head spontaneously explode? Crazy
