U.S. Propaganda Doesn't Get More Shameless Than 'Jack Ryan'

I actually watched season 1 and found it to be sort of propagandist, but not to the point where I couldn't overlook it and enjoy the show. But then I tried to watch season 2, and I literally turned it off 1 minute into the second scene because of the vomit inducing propaganda. I am happy to find this article at truthdig validating my revulsion.

https://www.truthdig.com/articles/u-s-propaganda-doesnt-get-more-shamele...

“No matter how cynical you might be about propagandistic American media, you are not prepared for how much watching this trailer is like snorting 100% pure John Bolton,” said Alexander.

Central to the plot is the idea that Venezuela, once armed with nuclear weapons, would bomb the U.S.—a country with enough firepower to use a fraction of its weapons to flatten the Latin American country.

“A nuclear Venezuela you will not hear about in the news,”

@Raggedy Ann @Raggedy Ann @Raggedy Ann Land of the fearful, home of the scared shitless.

It’s a great line to rile up the whack jobs.

I lost a good friend over his rabid “existential threat” claims about that fluster cluck. His overt racism didn’t help but I had to step away from a guy who had been like a brother for many years. I owed him a lot but this shit was too much.

But most older Americans don't play Video Games, and with good reason.

Short version that pretty much sums up just ONE of the Tom Clancy Games (Which are apparently penned by a corpse, it seems... quite appropriate, since they seem to just be remaking Red Dawn every other week.)

Mainly because of the propaganda, but also because I kept looking at the guy's nose. Shallow I know, but it was so distracting. Now he is a huge CIA Propagandist after touring the CIA and talking up how they keep us safe. Such a tool. Hopefully the ratings will continue to plummet and this crap will get removed.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

And of course not only with Jack Ryan. I still watch live TV at night, dumb stuff, comedies I do not have to think about after a day of reading all about our ugly reality (now The Office is off my dumb list since I won't be able to look at that actor after hearing his praise for the CIA, but I wasn't a huge fan anyway so no big loss to me). Between the military recruiting commercials, one with a nice video game type of feel, and the crap churned out by Hollywood it's getting much more noticeable.

When I saw they have a remake of "Midway" I damned near gagged but it's par for the course. Avengers movies based on comic books full of gratuitous violence and the red, white and blue, remake after remake of not only war movies but "Charlie's Angels" for fucks sake? Then there's "Mr. Rogers" which I personally just cannot help but see is another attempt at forcing "unity" and "positivity" on a worn out, overworked and economically precarious population that is just beginning to start to see just how badly they are being screwed by our owners. The owners know they're losing their narrative of a happy and already great America, and I see all this as nothing but a bald faced attempt to force us back into the all is good in America mindset.

It seemed historically accurate to me.
Naval battles always involve a good helping of luck. Especially during the Napoleonic Wars when whole fleets searched the Atlantic for each other, eager for battle, but unable to blunder onto each other. No aircraft, no satellites.

@The Voice In the Wilderness I have issue with but the propaganda of a good and noble America coming in to save the world from tyranny. It is the whole manufacturing of consent thing I object to. And now that I see most narratives in this country are so blatantly false, as most of us do out here, I cannot help but see this as one more form of propaganda to get Americans back in line thinking this country really is the indispensable and exceptional country that it is not. And never has been really.

I will add that I got into an actual argument with a friend over another movie, "It's A Wonderful Life" when she asked me WHY I find that movie corny and trite. I told her later please do not ask me why if you do not want to hear my crap after she shrieked at me like I had personally attacked her. That movie too is just one more Hollywood happy ending that Americans have been brainwashed to not only expect but they even vote accordingly. The idea that Trump was going to come in and save the day being the very same mentality of the Impeachment crowd that thinks if they just do this one thing, whatever that thing may be, today it is getting Trump out but that's only the latest thing we are all supposed to want, that all will be well if we just believe in that enough. And if you DON'T believe and act accordingly then YOU are the problem, not the lie that you're being asked to accept as truth but YOU. It is a sham and it is meant to keep Americans passive and accepting of whatever is done in their name as well as whatever is done to them personally.

That said, my own cynicism knows no bounds anymore and of course that shows. But once you see through it there simply is no going back - it would take a monumental effort for me now to ignore the lies and personally I don't think it would be possible. I don't say that with the idea that I am somehow smarter, more noble, or whatever, I say that because it really is true. Painful as it is.

The focus was on George saving the people in the town and not that the economy crashed in the first place and why George had to give up his life's dream to save people from the Hoover of the day.

Top Gun was a huge propaganda piece for the military and I'm betting lots of people joined the Air Force to fly planes only to get doing grunt work. More cannon fodder for corporations to use and abuse.

@snoopydawg I was still in the Army when I saw that and even back then I found that movie corny and trite. I was younger and nicer then and said nothing to my date, but damn I wanted to. I used to enjoy a good war movie but not anymore.

You somehow juxtaposed the military and corporations. The future was then revealed. Here is the commercial...
In the government's never-ending quest to reduce government spending, a new corporate / military partnership has been announced! The giants of the financial industry are willing to underwrite foreign excursions, saving taxpayers billions! The hugely successful energy cartels will be donating military hardware such as tanks, bombs and fighter jets to keep America strong! At almost no cost to the average Joe. Just think of it! The biggest IT firms will be helping the intelligence agencies at a fraction of the cost. No longer will we have to worry about trillion dollar Pentagon budgets... It's in the bag!

I was going to mention radar, but it wouldn't helped much because radar is line of sight. Radar on airplanes and satellites can see much further.
Yes, I'm aware of over the horizon radar.

So, you had these wooden ships sailing around without power and communicating by signal flag.

Can't really say much with flags. Nelson's famous "engage the enemy closer" was pretty close to the limit. Captains would repair on board the flagship for strategy sessions but once the cannons started to roar there weren't many choices besides - strike your colors, engage closer, or try to run away. The stern was the most vulnerable part of the ship so running away wasn't much of an option.

Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.

You'd think they would have attempted to be just a little discrete in their propaganda, but no, they just went all out with it. Yes, I watched season 1, and was enjoying the prospect of season 2, but they just ruined the whole premise.

The African-American (and therefore clearly from the Mainland) authority figure in Disney’s Lilo and Stitch? Turns out to be CIA. You know, the benevolent side of the CIA that keeps tabs on space aliens.

And the new, remade Hawaii Five-0 TV series seems centered around CIA and military connections, methods, and operations much more than the old one was.

I guess they have to keep cementing the mentality of total dependency on North America to keep the idea of independence at bay. Even the tiniest island populations are, or can consider becoming, independent states these days, but not Hawaii.
