If you can help me with my memory issues, just post an answer below. Off to defrost the freezer downstairs, if I can remember where it is..... The basement that is.
was Zagreb. Or somewhere else in Croatia, Slovenia, or thereabouts.
I've never been there, at least not in this lifetime, but I have a friend who's originally from Croatia. I've seen photos from her visits to the "old country", and it looks so beautiful and charming. Your photos have some of the same vibe.

Grand Duke Frederick Francis II of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The second shot is the cathedral in Aachen, but the others are particular to Mecklenburg, and Schwerin the city.
So yes, Northern Germany.
My daughter and I thought far North Germany.

Grand Duke Frederick Francis II of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The second shot is the cathedral in Aachen, but the others are particular to Mecklenburg, and Schwerin the city.

are the clearly communist-style residential architecture, the church spire, and the fact that the church is made of brick. These likely indicate eastern Europe on the northern plains. My first guess was Poland, second former East Germany, and third a baltic state. My wife pegged it as Germany.
That looks like Poland.
