MSM banging the drums of war with Iran

Because Trump watches Fox News, Fox has an oversized influence on our foreign policy.
So it matters that Trump is being told that war with Iran, for the first time in history, won't mean people being killed.

The idiotic bullsh*t isn't much better in the rest of the conservative media.

Trump bizarrely chickens out of responding to a direct attack from Iran, a piece for Business Insider charged.

“President Donald Trump bizarrely dismissed Iran shooting down a US drone as a ‘mistake’—after the country admitted to it and declared itself ready for war—in what looks like a bold but counterfactual move to avoid war,” writes Alex Lockie. “Indeed, Trump has talked a big game on Iran, but according to multiple and persistent reports, he has pushed his officials to take a softer tone on Iran to avoid war…. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday morning that the U.S. would endeavor to ‘restore deterrence’ toward Iran, presumably by letting them know a harsh response awaited any further aggression.”
...
In the Wall Street Journal Thursday, Reuel Marc Gerecht and Ray Takeyh wrote a piece headlined “America Can Face Down a Fragile Iran.”

“The regime is dangerous, but it isn’t nearly strong enough to withstand a prolonged confrontation,” they write. “The regime is in a politically precarious position… [Iran’s] essential weakness means it can’t muster sufficient strength for a prolonged conflict with a determined superpower. The mullahs’ clenched fists, slogans of martyrdom, and staged demonstrations shouldn’t be confused with real power. ”

Gerecht, a senior fellow for the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, distinguished himself in a November 2002 op-ed he penned titled, “An Iraq War Won’t Destabilize the Mideast.”

Meanwhile the so-called liberal media is assuring us that war with Iran will be a cake-walk.

American talking-head Bret Stephens, who advocated over a decade ago for war with Iraq, now stridently argues without a hint of irony that, “If Iran won’t change its behavior, we should sink its navy.”

“Nobody wants a war with Iran. But not wanting a war does not mean remaining supine in the face of its outrages,” writes Stephens. “We sank Iran’s navy before. Tehran should be put on notice that we are prepared and able to do it again.”

If that sounds crazy, consider Sen. Tom Cotton’s interview Sunday with CBS News’ Face the Nation, where he argued that it would take just two strikes to “win a war with Iran.”

The neoliberal chickenhawks have decided that the best course of action is to insult Trump's manhood.

What had been a subject of debate was now USA Today accusing Trump of “not following through.” As concerning as blundering into a huge war in the Middle East had been, the new talking point was Trump showing weakness, and per Kori Schake of the Atlantic, damaging “America’s credibility.”
... NBC News was quick to accuse Trump of “indecision” and declared it would “embolden Iran.”

CNN’s Samantha Vinograd accused Trump of not being able to “make up his mind,” and suggested that he’s “blown America’s credibility” by not attacking Iran.

No wonder they hate Tulsi so much.

With the requisite skills of Harry Houdini, El Trumpo is wriggling out of his self-induced straight jacket. Yay for Bolt-on and Pompous Mike. I am surprised that only 20% of the world sees the USA as a source of trouble. Even 22% in Amerika. My vote is 100% that the US is a bully.

In the meantime, I play the drums.

@Alligator Ed @Alligator Ed years ago the % was much, much higher, like close to 80.

So, see how we have improved under Trump? We just keep winning and winning. Wink

have no idea what they are wishing for. It's why we're in the state of imminent peril in which we find ourselves. Nothing but a bunch of dumb fucks.

If anyone needs to resist the calls to war by the Capitalist Party USA, it's the soldiers. Why should they fight another war so the richest assholes can continue to hoard the world's wealth?

Modern education is little more than toeing the line for the capitalist pigs.

Guerrilla Liberalism won't liberate the US or the world from the iron fist of capital.

Maybe Fox News is having a little civil war, because supposedly Tucker Carlson at Fox News helped talk Trump out of attacking Iran.

@karl pearson
In the 70s the Dems abandoned the blue collar vote. "Where are they going to go?"
They went Republican
Now they are abandoning the antiwar vote.
Tucker is there to sheepdog them into the gop

@gjohnsit The notion that the US needs to quit warring is hardly new.

The US population is sick of endless wars, regardless of party. Trump campaigned on ending endless wars. If he starts new wars, he is toast with his base. They are already mad at him about not getting immigration resolved while he had both chambers of Congress.

Gëzuar!!
from a reasonably stable genius.

CNN is beating the drums even harder.

I'm no fan of the Iranian religious state, but turn the tables. If Iran flew a spy drone over the USA, wouldn't we shoot it down? Would that be "an act of aggression" by the USA?
Who is the real aggressor? And what could the drone accomplish that a spy satellite can't (hint: Obama loved to watch drones murder people)
People who live in glass houses shouldn't fly drones.

Either way she left out that there are a lot of Hawks on the left too. Calling Trump a coward is a great way to goad him into attacking Iran. Hmm..maybe this is why she is doing this?

But it's too bad that the video was cut off before she finished saying what she was.

Israel Says It Wants 'War with Iran' and Is Meeting with Arab Countries to 'Advance' It

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his desire to go to war with Iran, and said he was meeting with dozens of foreign envoys, including those from the Arab world, in order to push the initiative forward.

The United States has rallied countries from across the world, especially from Europe and the Middle East, to attend a summit in Warsaw in a bid to form a united front against revolutionary Shiite Muslim Iran. In a video posted Wednesday to his office's Twitter account, Netanyahu said he had just had an "excellent meeting" in the Polish capital with Oman's foreign minister, with whom he "discussed additional steps we can take together with the countries of the region in order to advance common interests."

"From here I am going to a meeting with 60 foreign ministers and envoys of countries from around the world against Iran," the Israeli head of state continued, according to the account's English-language translation of his Hebrew remarks.

"What is important about this meeting. and it is not in secret, because there are many of those—is that this is an open meeting with representatives of leading Arab countries, that are sitting down together with Israel in order to advance the common interest of war with Iran," he added.

So how many Israeli troops will Bibi commit to fight his war on Iran? 10,000? 500? 2? 0? Yeah my guess is that not one Israeli soldier will be sent to die in Bibi's long sought after war on Iran. This would be a great time for Americans to wake the hell up and say no more wars for Israel.
