may light surround the planet

I am traveling. many cars. endless options for consumption. maybe you are gathering together for the holiday. honoring not the plundering. honoring love, gratitude. perhaps a moment to be. together. together continues unabated. for goodess' sake. life continues unaware (even excels, creates greatness), unaware of our unravelling. salmon swim upstream until there is no longer water.

I often wonder what will it take to stop the complicity. can such be overcome. organize? disrupt?

California communities will serve Thanksgiving dinner to thousands of Camp Fire evacuees

The World Central Kitchen, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Chico State and several school groups are hosting "Thanksgiving Together," a communal meal they hope will "bring together and bless the community through the unifying and healing power of food."
The event page has gathered more than 800 volunteers who will work Wednesday and Thursday to set up, serve food and assist with cleanup.

Thousands Of Fire Evacuees To Spend The Holiday Without Homes

"I'll be giving thanks this year that we made it out alive," Peters says.

So many evacuees have fled to nearby Chico, prompting local businesses to try and give them a place to exhale.

"When you see them come in they have ash on their clothes. Or their face has soot on it. Because you don't know what they were doing," says Breanna Fischer, manager the Buffalo Wild Wings near the disaster recovery center. It's brought a stream of customers with different stories of survival.

The restaurant is usually closed on Thanksgiving Day. But tomorrow, she and the other managers decided not just to stay open, but to host a free feast for hundreds of fire survivors.

Global Warnings

QMS: Time to disconnect greed from the welfare of earth, if survival means anything. I like trees.

Paul Beckwith: "I declare a global climate change emergency to claw back up the rock face to attempt to regain system stability, or face an untenable calamity of biblical proportions."

Kevin Hester: "There is no past analogue for the rapidity of what we are baring witness to. There has been a flood of articles ... 2C is no longer attainable and that we are heading for dangerous climate change"

Guy McPherson: "The recent and near-future rises in temperature are occurring and will occur at least an order of magnitude faster than the worst of all prior Mass Extinctions. Habitat for human animals is disappearing throughout the world, and abrupt climate change has barely begun."

In an outrageous act, the Democratic Party is threatening to pick a Speaker of the House who is even more conservative than Nancy Pelosi if the few progressives in Congress do not concede to the party establishment and endorse her.

The overwhelming majority of the opposition to Pelosi is coming from the right wing of the Democratic House caucus. Think about that. Congressional Democrats are so corporate that Nancy Pelosi is significantly left of center. The party gives us a choice between Pelosi and someone who is even more attached to Wall Street.

Faced with this threat, progressive Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Pramila Jayapal are giving in and endorsing Pelosi for Speaker. These are the kinds of no-win choices that the party forces progressives to make.

Turkeys to the right of me, turkeys to the left of me...it is a sad state of poultry when your goose is cooked!

Hope you all have a good day with family and friends. Enjoy what we have while it is here...just ask the folks in CA who lost so much. I'm off the B'ham to visit with both our families.

“Since 1970, Native Americans have gathered at noon on Cole’s Hill in Plymouth to commemorate a National Day of Mourning on the US Thanksgiving holiday. Many Native Americans do not celebrate the arrival of the Pilgrims and other European settlers. To them, Thanksgiving Day is a reminder of the genocide of millions of their people, the theft of their lands, and the relentless assault on their culture. Participants in a National Day of Mourning honor Native ancestors and the struggles of Native peoples to survive today. It is a day of remembrance and spiritual connection as well as a protest of the racism and oppression which Native Americans continue to experience.”

@Lookout And it's only going to get worse as the pigs pocket what little is left of the carcass of the US Empire for themselves.

Sure, they might give one half of the plebs a few crumbs to kill or imprison the other half, but we're all fucked when it's all said and done. And as for me? I'm over it.

You can't fight the pigs in any way, shape, form or fashion.

Modern education is little more than toeing the line for the capitalist pigs.

Guerrilla Liberalism won't liberate the US or the world from the iron fist of capital.

@The Aspie Corner
that we can't fight them. the question for me is why not. why are we not organized enough to even try. I find this inordinately frustrating. bc I think we could. you can stop a big machine by sticking a monkey wrench into the gears. where is that flashing point? surely it exists.

But yes, I started questioning the 'official' version of events at a ripe young age of 8 in 1963. Not much has happened since to convince me of the lies the government use are anywhere near the truth.

yep, there were plenty of questions floating around at the time that got steamed rolled over by the media. Looks like that has continued to this day. We will never know the true story.

Thanks for keeping on keeping on. Have a good one...

Lot's of floats about turkeys, pilgrims, uncle Sam etc., and no floats about the ensuing persecution and mass killing of the natives who saved the pilgrim's a**e* from starvation.

All the floats are ads for large companies (Love pentatonix but they were flogging baked goods...)

Just watched two earnest talking heads wishing displaced California fire victims well. No mention of climate, urban sprawl or the unwillingness of PG&E to turn off power when offshore winds are forecast.

Hillary Clinton: Europe must curb immigration to stop rightwing populists

Yes, that actually happened while everyone was watching the president predictably make an ass of himself in front of the troops.

@cybrestrike

I'm surprised Her didn't just go ahead and use Trump's term for the migrants - Invaders.

“I think Europe needs to get a handle on migration because that is what lit the flame,” Clinton said, speaking as part of a series of interviews with senior centrist political figures about the rise of populists, particularly on the right, in Europe and the Americas.

“I admire the very generous and compassionate approaches that were taken particularly by leaders like Angela Merkel, but I think it is fair to say Europe has done its part, and must send a very clear message – ‘we are not going to be able to continue provide refuge and support’ – because if we don’t deal with the migration issue it will continue to roil the body politic.”

Not a damn word about why people are fleeing their homes. Not really surprising, as Hillary Clinton bears much responsibility for the situation worldwide.

As bad as Trump is - and he is astoundingly bad, today I am thankful that Her is not the president of the USA.

dystopian's picture

@cybrestrike @cybrestrike Someone needs to tell Hillary the "immigrants" are not voluntary. They are refugees from collapsed societies destroyed by HER foreign policy as much as any single person's. See Libya. She fought long and hard to over-ride Obama and the Joint Chiefs to destroy them. She caused them to be refugees, now calls them immigrants and says they must be stopped. Why did she create them? Between Iraq, Lybia, and Syria, where most of the EU refugee problem came from (yeah Somalia, the former Yugos, etc. too), we might as well have just undermined the fairly civil EU countries ourselves. But this way we can blame others.
