Bernie Wants Me to Send Him $100

002-800x600 Bernie wants $100.jpg

WTF? Uhm, no Bernie. Is the upcoming election important? Maybe so, but sending you $100 is not going to happen. I think you know why.

Email received today:

Stopping an unstable president who is a liar

Dear [divineorder]

We are in a pivotal moment in American history, and the election on November 6 will determine, to a very significant degree, the future direction of our country.

Do we continue with a one-party, right-wing government in Washington led by a pathological liar with strong authoritarian tendencies? Or, do we stand up to Trump and fight for an agenda that represent all Americans, and not just the 1%?

That's what this election is all about.

So today, I am happy to share that I will be going out on the campaign trail for an eight-day, nine-state tour with stops in Indiana, Michigan, South Carolina, Iowa, Wisconsin, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and California.

In these states, I am going to do everything I can to win support for progressive candidates for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House, Governor and state legislature.

In the midterm election of 2014, the United States had the lowest voter turnout since World War II. The result: Republicans won landslide victories all across the country. That has got to change, and that is what this campaign swing is all about.

Along with the candidates, I'm going to do everything I can to get working people and young people involved in the political process and to the polls.

I hope to see some of you at these events, but today I want to ask you to help fund this effort to elect candidates who will lead the fight to stand up to Donald Trump.

Can you make a $100 donation to support my re-election campaign and my efforts to elect progressive candidates all across the county? I would not ask if this were not important. I cannot do it without your help.

It has never been more important for millions of working people and progressives all across this country to come together, to take a stand against authoritarianism and oligarchy. Our job is to revitalize American democracy, end the collapse of the middle class, and to create a nation of economic, social, racial, and environmental justice.

At a time when Republicans want to suppress the vote, we have to increase voter turnout. At a time when Republicans continue their war against women, we have to elect more women to local, state and federal offices, and at a time when Trump wants to throw 32 million people off the health care they have, we have got to guarantee health care to all as a right not a privilege through a Medicare-for-all, single-payer program.

In this election, we must not only defeat the Trump agenda, but we must also fight for a government that represents all of us. That’s why I am going out on the road to support a number of great progressive candidates before November’s election.

And I am thankful to know that we are in this fight together and the political revolution continues.

In solidarity,

Bernie Sanders

Some good descriptions of current reality in this email, but no, not going to send him any more money.

Action is needed and wanted, for sure, and Bernie talks a good game and he is out there organizing.

However, I am tending toward thinking more than voting is needed.

We voted by mail recently. Sad there were no Green candidates on our ballot . We have not been working on political campaigns, instead supporting, among other actions, the divest movement.

McKibben has been to jail over climate, as has Jill Stein. Would I go to jail? How important is the future to me?

Would love to stop or slow down the RepubaDems and Trump, but no, Bernie, I will not be sending you any money.

I was a captive audience recently to the election coverage while getting a pedicure, of all places. As I was inundated with its message of urgency, I was also surprised to find how much it reminded me of an overproduced reality show about Fantasy Politics.

Similar to Fantasy Football, you pick your teams, you place your bets, you get caught up in the game, and then you go back to your life, same as it ever was, until next season.

Except in Fantasy Football, you know it's pretend and you sometimes win.

Even if he later rolled over and started pushing the Dim’s lies, he should have kept that promise to make a stand at the convention. A lot of people gave money they needed for themselves based on his “there is a better way” and the promise to take his candidacy and platform “all the way to ..,”

I wouldn’t give him a dime either.

@Amanda Matthews @Amanda Matthews I counted it up after all the shit about the DNC came out. In many increments, of $27 and $5, I donated well over $700 I'll neither get back, nor could have afforded in the first place.

Honestly, I'm less mad at him about this particular issue than I am at the DNC, who outright stole that money. But of course, that case went nowhere.

Examples: “What the [family blog]?!” or “The former attorney general’s record is [family blogging] ridiculous.”

Speaking of Naked Capitalism, it seems Yves Smith has accepted an offer to write regularly for New York magazine.

Let’s hope this results in more and better mainstream exposure for Yves Smith’s work. She and regular readers of NC would be well-advised to be wary — after Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibbi went to work for billionaire Pierre Omidyar’s First Look Media, the move actually resulted in them disappearing from the mainstream, compared to the wide exposure (Guardian, Rolling Stone) both had been getting before.

From Roots Action coalition.

A year ago, progressive researchers published “Autopsy: The Democratic Party in Crisis.” At the time, a cover story in The Nation said that the report is “an unemotional dissection of why the Democrats failed so miserably, and it warns that the party must change profoundly or else remain a loser.”

Now an important update, “Democratic Autopsy: One Year Later,” evaluates how well the Democratic Party has done in charting a new course. The Nation has just published advance excerpts.

The sponsor of both Autopsy reports, RootsAction.org, is committed to strengthening efforts to end the scourge of Republican rule. We’re independent of any political party while working for social justice, civil liberties, environmental protection and peace.

To read the new Autopsy excerpts, click here.

Also, please share with your friends and support this work.

Here are a few of the new findings:

** “The Democratic Party still isn’t offering a bold vision that can excite young adults, a demographic known for not voting much…. The Democratic leadership is still using a 1990s-era playbook of technocratic half-measures that don’t inspire -- or bring out to the polls -- America’s youth.”

** “The party could dramatically boost voter participation by mobilizing around progressive proposals that are broadly popular, such as higher taxes on the wealthy, Medicare for All, a $15 minimum wage, stronger environmental protections, public transportation and criminal justice reform.”

** “Corporate power continues to dominate the party…. A crucial disconnect remains between rhetoric about corporate influence and subservience to it.”

** “The depressed turnout that cost Hillary Clinton the 2016 election was due to both voter suppression efforts by Republicans and the Democratic Party’s own inability to mobilize its base. The party has made some progress on both counts.”

** “Few Democrats in Congress are willing to strongly challenge the unaccountable military budget, which soaks up most discretionary spending that could be redirected toward the party’s proclaimed domestic agenda.”

** “Democrats often denounce the GOP for immoral and extremist domestic policies favoring the powerful. The party’s failure to challenge such foreign policies is a moral and political tragedy…. On matters of war and peace -- for instance, the 17-year war in Afghanistan and the Trump team’s extremely one-sided Israel-Palestine policy -- top Democrats have offered few alternative policies.”

** “Efforts to democratize the Democratic Party made some progress in August 2018 when the full DNC voted to bar superdelegates from voting for the presidential nominee on the first ballot.”

** “To get closer to living up to its name, the Democratic Party should rely on a broad base of small donors and refuse donations from corporations, particularly those with interests adverse to the party’s platform.”

We hope you’ll take a few minutes now to look at the advance excerpts of “Autopsy: One Year Later."

Of course the democrats know what they need to do to not be losers. The fact that they haven't should by now told people that they have no intention of doing anything as shown by this new report.
This is such a no brainer and yet they refuse to even pretend to run on it.

How much does this matter? They still can override the will of the voters.

** “Efforts to democratize the Democratic Party made some progress in August 2018 when the full DNC voted to bar superdelegates from voting for the presidential nominee on the first ballot.”

People are still saying that "we need to win back congress so that we can impeach Trump and Kavanaugh * even though Pelosi has said numerous times that she has no interest in doing so. But even if she did say it would anyone believe her after what she pulled in 2006?

I thought we were talking about the November elections and voter's motivations.

And No, I don't see this Blue wave of revulsion against Trump. Except from the Party faithful.

I think you will see one here in Illinois, but because of the ineffective Governor Rauner, not Trump. Clinton won Illinois but because of massive voting in Chicago. It was a good win for her overall, but nothing like California.

Don't know who first said it, but it's true: "Take away Chicago from Illinois and what do you have? Indiana!"

so and live with my conscience.

i do hope you know that both mcKibben and his sidekick climate chance demi-goddess Klein are both funded by the rockefeller foundation. it may be the reason neither has ever mentioned that the US war machine is the largest carbon footprint on the planet, nor have they indicted the rampant consumer throw-away culture in amerika, nor capitalism itself, save for klein's quasi-indictment by way of 'unfettered capitalism' in her 'this changes everything' nothing.

i'd had to look on the right side of harrison ford's video to see:https://www.globalclimateactionsummit.org/ SF have you clicked in?

jonah raskin at CP had a hella fun time writing up his visit there, although he stopped far too early (likely cuz he'd eaten a cannabis candy), but this is part of what he'd written in his: ‘Green Capitalism Rears Its Head at Global Climate Action Summit’, sept. 21

“It helped that I had a press pass to the event, which was sponsored by the Bank of America, Kaiser Permanente, Google, Facebook and Amazon. When I arrived on Thursday September 13, there were hundreds of demonstrators in the streets, and hundreds of police officers, too. As the woman who issued me my credentials said, “It’s organized chaos this morning.” On Friday cops and protesters were gone, except for bearded, elf-like Bill Callahan from San Rafael who held a sign that said, “Our Greatest Threat is Us,” and who told me, “We don’t have enough respect for our planet. We need to protect it and to live responsibly.”

A friend in the city who had offered me a bed for the week, told me as I was leaving his house to go to the Moscone Center, “This whole event is about green capitalism.” I thought about his comment on the N-Judah street car and on the line waiting to get inside the Moscone Center. “Is this event about green capitalism?” I asked Shashi Menon, the CEO of a corporation in Iowa that’s developing biofuels. Menon gave me an unambiguous answer. “Yes, it is,” he said. “We’ll have a better chance to survive catastrophic climate change with green capitalism than with the other kind.”

“It felt good to be reminded that the corporations that had poisoned the land with chemicals and that now were engaged in “green washing” did not own the U.S.A.
Before he walked off stage, Matthews told the audience that he and Jane Goodall were then and there “going to drink Scotch.” Hunter S. Thompson would have joined them. If they had invited me I would not have had to think twice before accepting the offer. But I was okay. I was still stoned. I was also ready to join Jane Goodall, become a vegetarian and do what I could do to restore our deforested planet. No, I wasn’t a revolutionary. I was merely a restorationist and proud to be one.” really there's more fun stuff.

but see, it's that Capitalism can Fix climate chaos, not that it caused it: buy a hybrid car, buy some solar panels, recycle your plastic and tra la la.

on my parade? ah...no. his attacks about immigrants in cages wedded to...not caring about climate change; how odd. did he attack his homie Obomba for the same things? in days of yore: 'Tweeting While the World Burns or: Elites Against the XL Pipeline', wd, shadowproof, feb. 2013

"I clicked over to tarsandsaction.org and read about the protest, then scrolled down to find the Wednesday 8:17 a.m. announcement of the Select Event. I checked into some of the tabs, comments, the early group photo, hand-picked participants* list with brief bios…and growled a little. It was hard not imagine that the organizers didn’t want to give too much advance notice or some well-meaning hippies might want to join them. Brrrrr; would they have been frozen out? Then I read the schedule: meet with police (gone now; might be usual), ‘media availability, and speeches in the park, and location: ‘…just east of the picture-postcard zone. Oy. Yep; it was hard not to further imagine that these folks’ll be orderin’ a mess o’ these photos for their holiday gifting."

it's longish, and boy, howdy, did i get an ass-kickin' from many.

but idid dig out again that 350.org and avaaz (one billion sold!!) had paid for the flights of boatloads of indigenous to travel overseas to climate marches so they could look oh, so cool and so relevant at the head of marches.

but this at the end of his essay says a lot, doesn't it?

"The Trump years are a fantasy land where we pretend we can go on living precisely as in the past, unwilling even to substitute electric SUVs for our gas guzzlers, and able to somehow insist that the rest of the world stay locked in place as well. It’s impractical, it’s unfair, and when it ends up with camps for kids in the desert it’s downright evil."

on edit: where and how does he (and hordes of others) think the electricity for cars is generated, anyway?

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@snoopydawg I'd rather argue/discuss the content than accuse others of 'tude. Tone and intent are notoriously difficult to discern in written communications, especially with no first-hand acquaintance with the "speaker."

I don't know, I sense a ganging-up here that reminds me, in a very unpleasant way, of ToP. And in that, I understand what Wendy's saying about tribalism. (Which of course none of us wants to be accused of, which then leads to the very behavior that no one wants to participate in, in the first place).

@WaterLily

i guess my 'apolgies for being impolite' went awry as well. guess my new one, prefaced by an older one, might be much the same as far as 'disrespecting saccred cows' (it got 4 comments, award-winng, lol).

all 'tude' aside.

@JtC

and are sticking to it as 'non-partisan', which to means supporting neither party, D or R. now what i'm calling 'tribalist' is the adherence to social groupings and the adherence to sacred cows: DSAs, Bernistas, 350.org and any number of Compromised NGOs, Ed Snowden, Glenn Greewald, anti-socialists, etc.

yes, i could have/should have asked more questions in a more Socratic way, but i admit bill mcKibben acts like a matador's red cape for me...(as the bull).

your wish is my command: shall i unpublish my recent diary?

We all have sacred cows, do we not, present company included.

This too can be construed as a matador's red cape:

it's not polite to rain on your parade, and yet...i can't not do so and live with m conscience.

You may not see it as such, but others may and do.

@JtC

as a matador's red cape. and when my sacred cows are criticized, i do try to offer evidence of why they're sacred to me, and why i value them as necessary parts of a more just, equitable, sustainable, and moral world, including 'the others' often seen globally as of far lesser value by the Empire, and within amerika. and i'm quick to point out that all of current fascism afoot didn't start with Boss Tweet, either, as so many seem to claim.

i contend that if obomba hadn't radicalized a person after one year in office, waking up to reality is going to be hard. i might need to say more, but mr. wd has some pressing honeydews for me...

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981

from the committee raising money to elect great Democrats to the Senate.
My response:
Schumer just agreed to fast track 15 Federal right-wing nut job judges which will make my profession border on being pointless; it hurts lawyers, the people they represent, and all the rest of the people who may as well get used to being kettled and shot and starved with no representation, and I will not give you a cent, will only scream at you if you call again. I despise both parties that obviously despise me, and I want a damn revolution! "
The young man on the phone said, "me too!"

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.

@divineorder I had family members knock on the door to tell my wife client in a divorce suit had died. They wanted to know who paid for her burial.
She died 7:15 a.m., they were in my office at 10:10 a.m.
I knew what to do, who to call, said the right things, will see my client out of this world with dignity and grace, and for anybody on this site who insist lawyers are evil and contentious and liars and greedy fucks,
you are wrong.
So very wrong.
Tina. RIP Tina.

Travel expenses? Money for each individual campaign he visits? Why isn't the DNC paying for any expenses or donations?

@MrWebster
Starting to think that 2016 was all a sham. A faux opponent so that Hillary could emerge triumphant as the People's Choice.

Look at this "financial news" item, https://finance.yahoo.com/news/working-americans-will-suffer-gop-keeps-m..., pushing the need to impeach. Yeah, that's what we need, to become a banana republic and just throw people out of office when the election doesn't go our way.

Outright radical Democratic politics masquerading as "financial news".
I wonder if this latest stock crash isn't engineered to get the TBTF banks back into power using their Democratic lackeys.
