Why I left DKOS

First thing . . . Thank you caucus99percent! It is so wonderful to find you. Someone posted a link at DKOS.

I had been receiving the DailyKos emails for about a year or so and enjoyed reading articles. I was actually pretty excited to learn last fall that I could sign up and write diaries myself. My second diary hit the recommended list. That was cool, but the thing that was the most fun was reading and responding to comments. When you hit the "Rec List," your article is visible for a day or two at least. Most of my diaries were about climate change. I am an average writer, but my recommended diary had a lot of pictures and documentation. Maybe new authors are recommended early on for encouragement?

To be fair, my recommended article was probably my best one.

I had already made the decision to leave DKOS before kos wrote his infamous pro-Hillary post 3/15=death to Bernie diary.

Censorship was the reason. If you write a diary at DKOS and it doesn't immediately get chosen for Recommended, Community, or Rescued - your diary is dead in as soon as a couple of hours. Like I said, my diaries were nothing fancy (mostly about climate change). But always during the time they were visible I received a decent number of likes and comments. Once it went dark, there was nothing. What a bummer! The interaction and conversation was the fun part!!

Also, I say censorship because it became quite clear very quickly that DailyKos advocates spin. I hate spin. It has been years since I have watched TV news. I am not interested in emotional opinions and twisted facts. DailyKos spin is much more subtle than the blatant Fox News spin, but it's design is to manipulate me just the same. It makes my skin crawl.

And DailyKos was making me depressed. The spin was messing with my mind and it took me awhile to put my finger on it. Once, I moved on . . . . whew . . . a cloud lifted. I need hope I guess.

I see hope everywhere at http://caucus99percent.com. I also enjoy my spot on Reddit, https://www.reddit.com/r/SandersForPresident, and am encouraged by the Leap Manifesto, https://leapmanifesto.org/en/leap-year/. Hope is good.

Thanks again to the creators of caucus99percent!

as well as your comments. Yes, censorship and spin is spirit sapping and brain shrinking.

I'd resolved to visit dkos at most a couple of times a day to read BNR and diaries from folks I respect like OPOL and Mass Southpaw (the list of respected diarists is longer, btw). But the gleeful "we can do this now!" descent on OPOL's diary today has me questioning even that. I hope LP begins posting his daily Bernie News Roundups here soon. And not as a cross-post with link to dkos.

Opening an account here felt like decompression instead of depression. Like "Cheers"--a welcoming space where the rules are meant to enforce free speech with civility, whether everybody knows my name or not. Discussion seems appreciated, a give and take of views that don't always agree, not a shouting down of what's seen as opposition. I see the reddit subthread as complementary.

Here's to a growing c99% community and the lifting of spirits and clouds!

There is no such thing as TMI. It can always be held in reserve for extortion.
