Independent for US President
To be disappointed about the latest primary results would be normal.
To be ready to throw in the towel would be understandable.
To resign yourself to a corporate Shillary Presidency would be lunacy.
I have a proposition for you and the rest of the Bernie Revolution.
Right now existing today there are 98 US Senators, some Democrat, some Republican, but did you know there are two Independent Senators. One from Maine and one ... well you know the other guy.
We all know the election process has been fixed, tilted, absconded, pilfered .... basically taken over by the two party system. Look at the general debates for instance. The last time a third party candidate made the debates he had to be a billionaire and buy his way into the issue discussion. Most of us are now finding out the primary season is no less fixed in determining the 'media, 'Wall Street', 'establishment' approved candidate.
The MSM cant stop talking about tRump and when they aren't skewering him they are crowning corporate Shillary.
So what about this Bernie guy? Did he need to have a good showing in Tuesday's primary states of Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, Illinois and Missouri?
Yes! If he needed to be the Democratic candidate. And there in lies the rub
Does he need to be the Democratic candidate? He is after all an independent Senator that just happens to caucus with the Democrats. This is no different that Ron Paul running as a Republican but by all accounts he is a Libertarian. Is the only reason they run under these two failed parties for the $$$? Big RNC/DNC money that will fund their campaigns? Doesnt that make them captured to special interests?
What if Bernie continues to run and siphon off delegates? It may not be enough to win over the entrenched establishment but ... again ... is that needed?
Just look at where the bulk of the registered voters reside.
(npr)Turned off by the partisan wars in Washington, 39 percent of voters now identify themselves as independent rather than affiliated with one of the two major political parties, according to a 2014 analysis by the Pew Research Center. Self-identified Democrats accounted for 32 percent of the electorate, Republicans 23 percent.
and among millenials
Its a movement that is being recognized by mainstream media. Yet they haven't put the two together to explain their blatant skewing and nearly criminal presentation of poll data. One particular moment came to mind when CNN was presenting that HRC had something like 80% of the African American support in Texas. Yet the elephant (or donkey) in the room was that demographic only made up 17% of the Democratic voting base.
Even though CNN does have the data they are not putting it on TV. Again CNN has Independents ranging from 30-50% of the voters in these states.
The bottom line is a failure of the major political parties has lead to the rise of nonestablishment candidates like Sanders and tRump.

Bingo
Colorado Independents
I suspect your graph would also show a very large percent for Colorado, since myself and many other independents in this state changed affiliation to vote for Bernie in the caucuses.
You're correct.
As it turns out there is a lot of information on just that.
Bernie's gonna be tarred with the Nader Brush
No matter what happens in this election. I say, might as well be hung for a sheep...
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Only if he loses….
As I said elsewhere, Sen. Sanders, Sec. Clinton and The Drumph are getting roughly equal shares of the electorate - about 15% each. This is doable. And should be done, IMHO.
The spirit of party serves to enfeeble the Public Administration,
agitates with Jealousies and false alarms, and opens the door to corruption,
which finds access to the government itself through the channels of party passions.
