Tuesday Open Thread: The Under 25 Three
While the 2016 presidential election had some of the oldest candidates in American history, some very young candidates are seeking office at the local level.
Morning Shift talks with three candidates from the Chicago area. All three are Democrats, and all three are seeking office for the first time.
Berto Aguayo, 24, is a community organizer who has led anti-violence protests with The Resurrection Project and has mentored young men of color in former President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper program. He hopes to unseat Alderman Raymond Lopez in Chicago’s 15th ward on the southwest side.
At 22, Ja’Mal Green is the youngest candidate in history to run for mayor of Chicago. He’s started his own nonprofit Majostee Allstars that works with schools to teach nonviolence. He has also served as a surrogate for the Bernie Sanders campaign.
And Hadiya Afzal, 18, is a student at DePaul University. She’s running for the Dupage County Board in District 4, which includes Wheaton, Glen Ellyn and surrounding communities.

Good morning, phillybluesfan, thanks for reminding us
that the future belongs to the children.
Hope that message gets to DC and State capitals, everywhere.
Great day to everyone!
A photo of yours truly
at the anti-Trump rally yesterday.
Bad back, bum hip, but it was a
decent day, so... just there to add
a body to the count. Which totaled close to 100.
oh! Can't see it, but carrying a big "Dump Trump" sign.
Found a pic of my lame sign (I can't print or write for crap these days)...
And saying a few words. Lots of Media there! I was shocked to see local tv and regional (Spectrum) tv there!
'We' never get coverage.
And this guy, the Rev. sumpthin' or other (forgot his name), drove all the way from Albany, NY to be up here in the middle of nowhere - a 3 hour drive each way - just to meet'n'greet and say a few words, get some tv exposure. Did a Great job! Looks like a Rev., doesn't he?!

Florida Dems really suck
what centrism gets you
Many of the under 30
crowd choose to
register as an Indie (or other third party)
than register as a Dim. Can't hate 'em for that.
What has the Dim party given the rank'n'file since 2009?
Exactly. And has taken a toll. It could be argued that O'bummer killed the Dim party.

oh, and phillybluesfan,
I'm gonna be in Philly next year at the Aloft hotel for NN19 (Netroots Nation) July 11, 12, 13. Maybe point me in the right direction for a beer or three, and stop by for one or two yourself! And, yeah, I know it's a lame Conference for the "professional Left" and Establishment wing, but it's close to home, so... and I might bump into somebody I otherwise wouldn't.

That is so cool
Here are two of our 'progressive' candidates. If we can elect them both we will have a majority on the council and can put a stop to the big money folks who want to take over our town. They are both doing major things for the environment.
