Rut Roe. Did anyone clear this with Liz?

All the cool kids are at Netroots.

And this.

To massive audience applause, Democratic congressional candidate Deb Haaland said on Friday that, “If elected, I’ll be the first Native American Woman in Congress. I recognize that we are on indigenous land and I approach you with respect for the tribes whose homeland we stand on now.”

Liz speaks tomorrow I believe.

Stay Tuned.

I assume that the Republicans all have to give up and go away because they lost the game now, right!

I'm sure that the big Fascist rally here in Portland Tomorrow will be instantly demoralized and they'll all go home. Justice will drip from every cop's Gun, and we'll all be perfectly represented in a wonderful world of corporate loyalty.

Is Liz considered Native American because of the one drop rule? I've read conflicting articles on whether it's been proven that she has ever confirmed that.

But it's hard to believe that Deb Haaland would be the first NA elected to congress. It's says something about this country.

Supposedly, my great-great grandmother was the daughter of a Native American woman and a Carpetbagger black man she saved from a lynch mob.
I did the test. I am 11% Cherokee, 11% African.
It isn't that hard, Liz.

@on the cusp Good on your great-great grandmother! Fuck yeah.

A lot of slaves escaped to join indigenous down here...not that the indigenous down here are indigenous to here, exactly; Florida is weird.

All the actually native to Florida people got killed early, mostly by disease, but some by guns.
Then we became a place to run away to, and lo the Seminoles were born.
Then they became a place to run away to.

If it were so, we'd all be members of a tribe. Liz may have already found out and is too embarrassed to say lol.

I am supposedly related to Cynthia Ann Parker, Quannah Parker's mother, of the Comanche. And on the other side, I'm supposedly Cherokee "because" my paternal grandmother was born in Oklahoma ha!

I haven't done a dna test, but did recently update my info for my Dr. office.

Race: Mutt

What a cool story about your ancestors. I seriously pissed off my ex psycho husband when I told him freed and escaped slaves sought refuge with NAs, and married/procreated with them. Nothing like seeing a racist's head explode lol! Same thing happened when I talked about slave women nursing white babies for their lazy white mothers. Good times poking the bear! Wink

@Deja Because of a misremembered story that my dad told me as a kid. When I was corrected, I owned the fact that I was wrong.

I will NEVER do a DNA ancestry test. I will never get them for my kids. The truth is that there are some things that should not be quantified, and the value of a human from their origins is one of them. Considering the MIC is compiling a database, it's enough to make me suspicious of the entire thing.

I've read, maybe here, that if you've had a biopsy in the last X number of years, you're already in the database. So I'm already in it, but my daughter wanted to check hers, after her dad did his (another supposed NA link that didn't prove to be true). I bought 23 and Me for my daughter as her birthday gift. I haven't given it to her yet.

My son, on the other hand is curious, but concerned about the database issue. His father is a bonified psychopath, so he might not want to know something a test might reveal. I'm not sure if that's the case, or if the home tests even look for something like that.

I'm curious, but not enough right now to test myself.

@Deja great-great grandma hid her husband under a pile of hay in their barn, and none of the pitch forks they used to poke it touched him.
A 3rd cousin was having problems with a recurring skin problem on his arm. His mom, my second cousin, was upset with the doctors because they kept saying it was a disease that only afflicts Africans. When I told her the story about our ancestors, she was furious. And humiliated. They avoid me. I know their dirty little family secret.
I am thrilled to know I come from such a courageous lineage.
I can also better inform my healthcare providers should it become necessary.

Good to know for medical reasons, for sure. My dad developed keyloids at the incision site when he had heart surgery. Keyloids happen in AAs and NAs. Maybe his mom really was Cherokee. Or, maybe our lore about being "Black Dutch" is true (and maybe the story, of many, about the Black Dutch being African mercenaries who went to Europe is the true one). Who knows. It's still interesting.

Did anyone hear about this?

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s Personal Driver For 20 Years Was A Chinese Spy

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office was infiltrated by a Chinese spy who worked as her driver and attended official functions on her behalf for 20 years, according to new reports from Politico and The San Francisco Chronicle.

Feinstein reportedly had no idea that her office was being infiltrated by a man who was feeding information to an individual linked to China’s Ministry of State Security. She was “mortified” when the FBI showed up at her Washington DC office five years ago to warn her about the mole.

Feinstein, who was serving as chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee at the time, had access to classified intelligence that would be extremely valuable to the Chinese government. She forced her driver to resign shortly thereafter and did not tell her staff about the incident, according to an unnamed source cited in the Chronicle.

She forced him to resign? That's it? He wasn't arrested or anything? Is that usually how foreign spies are treated when they are caught? Skripal was a Russian spy who then switched sides and spied for the U.K. and he was sentenced to prison for 9 years. Other people who were spies were shot for it right? Something about this stinks.

But wait there's more.

In her capacity as a ranking member on the Senate Intelligence Committee, Feinstein unilaterally released testimony from Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson to the public earlier this year, violating committee precedent. When she released these records, she failed to disclose that one of her former staffers, Daniel Jones, had hired Fusion GPS and ex-British spy Christopher Steele to dig up dirt on Donald Trump after the 2016 election.

From that article:

It is not known how many members of Congress Jones worked with during the course of multiple congressional investigations into Fusion GPS’s involvement in the 2016 election and its simultaneous work on behalf of a Kremlin-linked company previously charged by U.S. authorities for money laundering and evading U.S. sanctions against Russia.

So fusion GPS was working for a Kremlin linked company that was doing something illegal? Or am I missing something? Curiouser and curiouser.

Last we heard about them is that they either plead guilty to bank fraud or were being charged for it. I don't understand why the PTB are so upset that Russia "hacked" the DNC computers and gave the information to Wikileaks after everything that the Awans did. Right?

Reminds me of how it's okay for one country to commit heinous human rights abuses and for another one it's not.

@snoopydawg That applies to individuals as well, of course.

Hillary gets to put sensitive material on a server with no password for two months, but a Navy grunt who (stupidly, I'll admit) takes pictures of the inside of his sub to share with his family is still wearing an ankle bracelet.

I guess they too are going to be used. Hope they get something out of it; most Black people surely aren't--well, beyond being able to see Black politicians and media figures on TV.

I am simultaneously proud and squicked that my particular group of oppressed (LGBT) managed to get something real in exchange for renting ourselves out as credibility engines.

solely because she hoped to meet her "fellow" Native Americans is laughable, IMO.

Ah, Netroots. I know I am preaching to the choir, but....

"Netroots Nation is a political convention for American progressive political activists, originally organized by readers and writers of Daily Kos, a liberal political blog. It was previously called YearlyKos." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netroots_Nation

"Daily Kos (/koʊs/ KOHSS)[2] is a group blog and internet forum focused on liberal American politics.[3][4][5][6] Additionally, the site features a participatory political encyclopedia ("DKosopedia"), glossaries, and other content. It is sometimes considered an example of "netroots" activism.

It was founded in 2002 by Markos Moulitsas and takes the name Kos from the last syllable of his first name, his nickname while in the military.[7]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netroots_Nation

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markos_Moulitsas His wiki has been slanted to portray him as both anti-Clinton (both Hillary and Bill) and a maverick. rather than the tool of Democratic Party establishment that anyone even marginally fair knows him, Daily Kos and netroots nation to be.

Remember the netroots nation that Sanders attended after he had announced he was running against Hillary, but Hillary did not? Usually a host will control outbursts from attendees that occur while a scheduled speaker is speaking. Sanders had barely begun to speak when the host gave the floor to the "outbursters."

Hillary's reason for not being present? A previous engagement. Netroots Nation had scheduled the event a full year in advance. So, what previous engagement did our Hilly have? Why, a State of Arkansas Democratic Party fundraiser. Netroots set the date for that event a full year in advance. As if Arkansas Democrats, given a year's notice, would not have accommodated Hillary if she had wanted to be at netroots. (If I learned that Hillary got the head of the Arkansas Democratic Party to schedule that fundraiser after netroots announced the date of its event, so she would have an excuse for being absent. Not as though Arkansas Democrats would have refused their state's former first lady, married to the first (and so far only) Arkansan to become POTUS.

Anyway, netroots nation is just one more astroturf organization masquerading as grass roots.
