~~ Lutefisk Contest

Anna's Day is the day to start the preparation process of the lutefisk to be consumed on Christmas Eve. You have been notified, so get on it.

For what its worth, according to Wikipedia, on this day in 1822 Augustin-Jean Fresnel, in a memoir read to the Academy of Sciences, coined the terms linear polarization, circular polarization, and elliptical polarization, and reported a direct refraction experiment verifying his theory that optical rotation is a form of birefringence.

In the early nineteen-sixties, both Somalia and Kenya threw off their colonial yokes to become free. This was like music to the ears of the USA'a political classes. Better yet, turmoil and civil war broke out in Somalia, affording a potential excuse and justification for a "peacekeeping mission" and long term base from which to exert "influence" in that part of Africa and the adjacent waters. Having finagled control command of a UN operation consisting largely of US troops and personnel, on December 9, 1992, the US Central Command literally invaded Somalia using multiple simultaneous amphibious assaults and a helicopter assault on the Mogadishu airport. Though our fondness for Somalia has waxed and waned, we still have troops there, though we never did acquire a permanent base.

Western Asia was fundamentally changed this weekend. Israel has snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with the help of Turkey, MI6, and the CIA among others with a group of multinational jihads.

Ambassador Freeman served as US Assistant Secretary of Defense from 1993-94, and as U. S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia (89–92), handling the fallout of the Gulf War. He was the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs during the historic U.S. mediation of Namibian independence, And he was Richard Nixons principal interpreter during his 1972 visit to China, which lead to the normalization of US–China relations.

Big changes afoot. I fear this spells the end of a Palestinian state.

Thanks for the OT, el.

never was to be a Palestinian state. The UN declared that one had to be created, along with Israel, but never stepped up to enforce that in the face of unending assaults on the Palestinian people and seizures of their territory. It was all virtue signalling. The Brits clearly intended Israel to be a local hegemon from day one and permitted early ethnic cleansing, even before Israel was formally created.

Brian Berletic, a geopolitical researcher, posted the excellent analysis of the fall of Syria in the video below.

Berletic says the taking of Syria is a reminder that while US military and industrial power wanes, it still possesses potent "superweapons" in terms of monopolizing information space, poisoning populations against their own best interests, and toppling nations.

He warns nations that they all will be targeted at some point in the current World War for control over all global resources, and to protect themselves, countries must invest deeply in securing and defending national and regional information space from US interference. They must create local education programs and produce journalists and analysts, and build local social media platforms to replace US-based platforms, and pass laws ending foreign funding of media inside targeted countries.

Brian Berletic, who wrote for over 10 years under the pen name of 'Tony Cartalucci', is a geopolitical researcher and writer based in Bangkok, Thailand. His work covers world events from a Southeast Asian perspective.

in the office for the first time since my out-of-warranty experience. It is fairly amusing- people are coming by and asking "Why did you come back?"

Why, indeed. Well, because I can't afford not to, mostly. But thanks for asking...

Meanwhile, I see that the enshitification of the Middle East continues apace. I'm glad to see the article linked by Pluto's Republic: it is incredibly important that the rest of the world inoculate themselves against us as soon as practicable. The US has been allowed free reign to delay, deny, and depose the rest of the world for far too long.

Changes are coming, I think.

I dunno. I just read this transcript of a Lavrov interview and I’m not that impressed with his answers.

https://mid.ru/en/foreign_policy/news/1986144/

In many cases he doesn’t cleanly answer the question and in others he thinks that Russia just needs to follow international law and everything will be okay. Good grief how many times has Russia signed treaties according to international law only for the other signers to betray them? Then they sign another one anyway hoping for a different outcome.

Russia is somewhat responsible for the fall of Syria. It never stopped Israel from attacking whatever the hell they wanted in Syria and including Iran and hezzbollah troops or military bases while they were trying to defend Palestine. Israel denied letting Iran planes land there recently. And let them bomb crossings between Syria and Lebanon. Plus they let Israel attack Syria's military and its bases. Some friends.

One is the installation at world settlement banks of a block chain ledger system to track trades rather than using SWIFT. Removing SWIFT ends the Hegemon.

Another plan is a global wealth entity that competes with US Treasury auctions and sales, at favorable rates, but backed with with no risk guarantees. The US Treasury auctions would fail to raise enough investment money to cover the interest on its debts. Closing down the Hegemon financial system for a few days so other bailouts can be found..

There may be other plans in the works to abruptly defang the Dollar. which the majority of the world would like to see. There are no threats made. The solutions just slide into place,

These solutions will hit close to home. In the end, the American people will pay the price for the evils they funded, and for the psychopaths and mental-defectives they elected.

The 2015 movie Trumbo is worth the time. Gets the essential bits presented well enough even as overall the movie is flat-footed. The compensation is that the performances are very good.

I am not seeing much of anything, will get a re-do on one of the eye-scans this week, and then can schedule the surgery... Heard a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in front yard yesterday.

Hope all are well!

the gendarmes claim to have arrested the United Healthcare assassin.

I hope they have the right guy, and not just some poor schlub that was standing in the wrong place wearing the wrong thing at the wrong time.

Regardless: any bets on whether he mysteriously and inexplicably dies in custody over the next couple of days?

@usefewersyllables @usefewersyllables Watched a number of videos on the incident. The ones with cop/fbi/etc experts were interesting in that they expressed a lot of boiling hostility toward the shooter, and regard for the CEO. Internet and social media content were the opposite brimming with gallows and black humor. The cops failed to protect one of the bosses.

Picked up at a McDonalds. What could be more iconic. Not too far from the Greyhound Bus Station. Did he stay on the bus and bus line for a long time? The system will keep him alive as a living example what happens....

Thanks Anna!

This has led to the theory that lutefisk was discovered after a drying rack for cod built with birch caught fire. While the townspeople tried to put out the fire with water, they were not successful, and the fish, thought to be no good, was left in the wet ash. As this turned to lye, some townspeople discovered that the fish was edible after all, and lutefisk was born.
