We are beginning to dry out after a week of rain. NE GA got about 18 inches this past week. We got a more reasonable 6 inches or so. We are living up to our humid subtropical climate designation. The forest growth is thick and rank...jungle like.

Monday evening (May 28th, Memorial Day), the center of Alberto crossed the Florida panhandle near Panama City. Preliminary wind reports indicated 40 mph sustained winds at Panama City, with a gust to 59 mph. Near and along Alberto's path norrthward, rainfall amounts of 3-8 inches were generally received, with locally heavier amounts.

I'm not complaining mind you. Ask RA what the other extreme is like.

The four corners is really dry isn't it?
We went through a major drought for several years, and it is nice to see the forest recover.

Many years ago I played a session with Stranger Malone https://www.theguardian.com/news/2005/aug/04/guardianobituaries.artsobit...

He played this song which I'll put here in honor of bike day...

last night; must have been a mudslide nearby, our power went out around 3am, but it's back on. I may get out later and go see what the trouble is. More thunderstorms in forecast today; wouldn't want to be living under a steep slope.

To counter this slide problem a study was commissioned by NC general assembly around 16 years ago and as the scientific mapping proceeded on a county basis, the unfounded uproar from the right grew in Raleigh and unfortunately, once the repugs took control in 2010, the study was axed shortly after their taking power; so, developers can continue selling dangerous property to unsuspecting folks. Damn.

We got 14 inches in 7 hours. Flooding and mud slides abounded.

Best of luck with your clean up and restoration!

Good that the power is on. There is perhaps a harbinger of things to come in the outage unless we immensely weatherproof all of our power infrastructure or go to distributed micro-grids. Stopping the slide study was classic corruption, imo. Developers have enormous sway in this country, whose cries and plains should be ignored on the grounds that they are speculative rentiers and it is not only not our problem if they are at risk, but actually a public benefit.

was writing about Thomas Wolfe in another thread and it has been written that Ginsberg was influenced by Wolfe as were many. Great minds understanding the madness and beauty surely beat jesus riding dinosaurs. Smile

Formerly known as the Fletcher Flyer, this bicycle ride now begins and finishes at the Oscar Blues brewery here in Brevard. Two friends of ours are entrants and the ride comes right by our house at about mile 3. I always go out to the street to cheer the riders on and they love it. This year, due to the rain flooding or washing out some of the roads along the normal route, the route was forced to be changed. Now, instead of being a loop, the route is an out and back. That means it will come back by our house before finishing at the brewery. I hope I can time it right to watch the riders come back by.

It is a gorgeous day here too! Smile

because of scheduled power pole maintenance and saturday is house cleaning day, but it takes power to do that. Bored out of my mind because no computer access so took the dawgs out to our walking place for 4 hours. They loved the extra time, I listened to a good book. Now my garage door open looks to be fried. Hmmm, who is on the hook for fixing that?

Good grief, how did the pioneers enjoy life without power, tv, computers, ect? Oh I do know that I am a spoiled dawg. One day without power and .............
