Friday Night Photos
Submitted by Bollox Ref on Fri, 09/29/2017 - 7:10pm
Trying to finish cooking dinner, so this will be short.
I call this Elizabethan Beam, as it's a beam from Elizabeth I's time, in an old farmhouse in the nether regions of Suffolk (the lane doesn't even have a real name).
Feel the Fern...
From the local nature centre... a turtle enjoying the sun.
Now, off to finish the Thai green curry....
Cheers pour le noo.

Good Friday night all.
I have many photos to share, but I'll start with just one story. When hubby and I first got back here there were a family of green herons living in our trees. I'm pretty sure they had a nest in the big blue spruce. We watched them for a few days and I took a lot of photos. They would perch on the horse pen and catch bugs. They are smaller than other herons, and usually quite compact.
But then they stretch their necks out!
And then he started melting!
Silly bird!
It was a joy to watch them in our own yard! They disappeared a few days later. There were at least four; the cats did get one of them. (We have a lot of barn cats who are very good at their job.) Hopefully they safely headed south.
This shit is bananas.
A while ago, spending time up North in Minnesota
We noticed a Green Heron just sitting in a tree. I usually associate herons with water and fish.
Funny birds.
And thinking about it, I passed one, a couple of years ago, on the local bike path.

It's good to hear from you
I have been wondering how your move went and if you were able to take some pictures of the birds in your area.
Wowzer! Talk about a stretched neck. I am so amazed by how many different species of animals adapt to their environments.
This picture is from the daily bucket diary on DK by Besame. She posted this picture of an acorn woodpecker which doesn't eat acorns. They spend a lot of time filling trees with acorns
Let's talk about squirrels who have way too much time on their hands

What a great welcome home.
The way they stretch their necks must be very entertaining! Thanks for capturing the image of it for us.
Thanks, Daenerys! Always
look forward to your bird photos; these were especially delightful, with the 'neck action' and all.

Nice set of photos BR and thanks for the open thread tonight.
I shot these yesterday morning at the San Diego zoo.

Great series, Socialprogressive.
What contemplation! Some of us have to take a taste to divine what it all means ; ).
Thank you Janis

Thank you, magiamma.
Good to see you, magiamma! Agree
with Janis--your photo of celery seed is especially striking, although both photos are beautiful.
Have a nice weekend . . .

Thank you for tonight's Photo OT, BR. Also,
thanks to the many excellent C99P photographers for sharing your work!
Instead of a stock photo, thought I'd share a temperature graph of Puebla (Mexico)--yes, that Puebla! Seriously, the recent quake hasn't discouraged us, since most of the most damaging earthquakes in Mexico have occurred in other parts of the country.
Anyhoo, as someone who absolutely loathes extremely hot weather, these year-round temps are very appealing.
Hey, Everyone have a nice and safe weekend!

Hi Mollie!
I can hardly wait for you to get to beautiful Puebla!
Thank you, Janis--me too. Wow! What
gorgeous scenery--thanks for sharing. Hey, I'll take some of that Thai green curry, too!
Have a nice weekend.

Now I understand your attraction! Mexican food ; ).
I had ceviches in Mexico, that in my wildest dreams (or culinary endeavours) I could never have imagined. I’d not trade them for Thai green chili, or any other deliciously spicy delicacies.
Fresh fish, delicately cooked in lime, flavoured with cilantro and company, and enjoyed in beautiful surroundings is my idea of heaven.
When you get there please post food photos and recipes as well ; ).
Can Mr. B easily come with you to Mexico?
You must be a mindreader, Janis--absolutely luuuuuuuuuuuuuuv
Mexican food!
Hey, I should be able to muster a crummy (cell camera) photo of some of the most delicious food; but, gotta admit, I'm not much of a cook, so may not come up with a whole lot in the way of recipes.
There'll be no problem with taking 'the B'--the Visa-like requirement is very similar to traveling in Canada--we'll just have to have our vet to fill out a Health Certificate, a routine form. Also, sounds like there'll be no problem regarding our bird, either, since we're not coming from an area affected by Avian flu, etc.

No mindreading necessary, Mollie ...
Your enthusiasm — "Hey, I'll take some of that Thai green curry, too!" — gave you away ; ).
I'm glad that your furry and feathery family can easily accompany you to Mexico.
I’ve been looking at photos and reading a bit more about Puebla. It’s such a beautiful landscape and very rich in culture.
Evening all
Thank you for posting tonights POT, Bollox. I'll trade you some green ferns for some Thai green curry.
Do those drilled-in acorns ever sprout?

The curry has all gone I'm afraid
Just a bit of rice left.

I haven't been posting pictures because I
have no room on my computer for downloading the pictures I have been taking. Hopefully if I remove some and then empty the trash on iPhoto I can start posting again. The leaves are slowly changing here and I'm hoping to get up in the mountains to capture some.
Thanks again for posting this, Bollox.

Snoopy, Best Buy
has 1TB external hard drives for about $55.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
Try Newegg too.
This shit is bananas.
And there's the rub
I have an external hard drive and have backed up my computer. Actually, I have 3, but the first two just died out of the blue for no reason. Both are name brand hard drives so I thought that I was safe.
I could back them up to DVDs, but then the drive on my mac mini doesn't accept new discs to write on.
The joys of poverty are unending. But at least I have my health,, right? Hmmm, this is debatable.
Thanks for the suggestions though

I took these the evening before my grandmother passed away
That was Sunday. It remains to be seen how much I'll get out this fall.

I'm sorry about your grandmother's passing.
The photo of the dragonfly, with its slightly torn wing, seems like a poignant reflection of that.
