If you're an Oligarch building your Bug out Compound in NZ you're in for a rude reception.

There has been much talk about our politicians trying to drum up a hot war with Russia and/or China, but I don't think that is their real goal. A hot war is "fine" if you are doing it to a country that does not have the ability to project force on a global level.

Another cold war stands to make them a LOT more money than a hot war would. (Difficult to enjoy those hard stolen dollars when the world economy is in shambles and anything worth buying is already ashes.) Which makes me believe they are pushing more for Cold War 2.0 (Since version 1 was so lucrative for the MIC) but that is not the point of this essay.

Some quick background.

I belong to a group of gamers from all over the world, we frequently have group audio conversations using an App like Discord, Mumble or Teamspeak with upwards of 130 participants in the conversation at a time. I know, it sounds like such a group "call" would quickly degenerate into a free for all with everyone talking at once but we have actually developed a pretty good set of "acceptable behavior" on it and it seldom descends to that level. (It helps that every user has the ability to mute, only to themselves, someone that is being annoying, and a few channel Ops have the ability to globally mute those engaging in bad behavior, essentially giving them a time out.)

I am currently working on setting up a prototype/test C99P server for it to see if it is something that would be utilized enough to make worthwhile, and if it is I plan on funding it myself. (just doing what I can to help our little community have more avenues for conversation and help build and grow our relationships with each other)

This would allow those that wish to have a real time discussion about something join the channel and can converse with whomever else is in it, with different channels created for different topics and a common lobby for free form discussion but that is a project for a little later and I digress, I just wanted to give a little background on how this conversation took place.

Now, for the meat and potato's part of this essay.

I was talking to some of the guys about a week ago and while we generally avoid topics like Politics and religion on our comms (Too damn divisive and interferes with the goal of the server, which is to have fun) and it just so happens that a large number of the people I play with are from Australia and New Zealand (Due to my pain issues I am frequently up during their peak time zone if I am gonna be miserable it always helps to reduce or at least take my mind off the pain when having a fun conversation).

To make a long story short I asked the Kiwi's what they thought about the ultra rich buying up large chunks of NZ in order to have safe refuge after they destroy the world.

They actually find it quite humorous, and here is why.

One of the NZ guys, who is a Maori, stated that there has already been much discussion about it amongst themselves (Think more bar talk than in an academic setting) and according to him and a few of the other guys, they already know exactly where these compounds are being built, who owns them and in many cases even obtained Blueprints via public (and not so public) records of their compounds and fully intend, in the event of a massive global catastrophe, to go in and raid these "Safe Havens".

Their reasoning was two fold, firstly, if their is a breakdown in global infrastructure and society in general there will be lots of useful supplies just sitting there for the taking, and secondly, purely out of rage against the concept that the very people that constructed the global collapse, or at best sat idle and allowed it to happen, would not only go unpunished but sit in the lap of luxury while the rest of the world suffers and burns.

Many people who are not familiar with the Maori are unaware that these people have a long standing culture of the warrior and are very proud of it and can be quite formidable in a fight.

I don't know how many personal security people these richies are planning on bringing with them, but I am pretty sure it isn't going to be enough to stop even one incensed group of Maori let alone the entire Maori nation.

So the moral of this story is simple, if you are one of these oligarch fucks that think you can rape and pillage the planet and then when stuff gets to hot retreat to the safety of NZ they are mistaken.

If they change the entire world into essentially a third world prison they are going to learn a valuable lesson that I learned within my first month as a Corrections officer, in quite a shocking manner, and that is Rapists and Child Molesters both do not fare well in prison.

No matter how many guards with guns we had, there was no way you could keep anyone completely safe unless you moved them into protective custody (basically one step up from a lock-down unit aka The Hole.) and even then a gang would assault one of it's own members just to get him placed into protective custody as well. (You have to request it and have reason in order to go PC) and after laying low for 2 weeks he casually walked by and sliced the throat of the rapist. (Turns out his victim was related to a MS13 member who put a large sum of money on the Shot Callers books to "Serve Justice")

It might only be to a minimal level, but I do obtain a certain sense of satisfaction from knowing that if these assholes do do something of that nature they won't outlive me by long.

There is no protective custody available when the entire planet thinks you are scum and is out to get you.

Feel free to chime in below on either the topic or if you like the idea of us having a free (well, at least for the members, lol!) form of verbal communication. Tools like Discord, Mumble, etc could be really useful I feel for helping with organizing as well as just a place to actually have a conversation with one of your fellow C99Peeps without the slow delay of a text only discussion. likely couldn't be trusted forever, in the event of a collapse. In order to maintain power, these oligarchs would have to retain access to power, resources and money. There's a good chance that all of these would be dramatically diminished by such events.

They would be similar to refugee royalty in exile, and pretty vulnerable to attack.

Ok, so you got a jet on standby and a small security team in the event of a collapse.

Not only do you have to take care of your team, you also have to take in their families.

Those with wives and children are unlikely to want to just abandon their families, same with siblings and parents.

So lets say you do all that, get to your compound and have them all set up in at least moderately comfortable surroundings.

How long to you think it will take before one of them says, "You know what? Why are we waiting on these people hand and foot, protecting them and caring for them tending their crops (you know they will not be the ones doing manual, if any, labor) and all we get out of the deal is measly accommodations while they live in climate controlled mansions? We are basically serfs! Screw this shit, we are taking over this place!"?

I can't think of a single scenario where this actually works out for them in anything other than the very short term.

Some of them have been thinking along similar lines, I recently read an article (Wish I could remember where) written by a billionaire basically warning his other billionaire club members that they really need to check their shit before they fall victim to pitchforks and torches.

If I come across it I will post a follow up, it was a pretty good read from what I recall.

@Alphalop but it's actually more pertinent now than it was even a few years ago. Even Caesar couldn't ultimately trust his own Praetorian guard, who, by sheer propinquity to all the wealth became envious and dispatched the current Caesar, to get some for themselves.

If we don’t do something to fix the glaring inequities in this economy, the pitchforks are going to come for us. No society can sustain this kind of rising inequality. In fact, there is no example in human history where wealth accumulated like this and the pitchforks didn’t eventually come out. You show me a highly unequal society, and I will show you a police state. Or an uprising. There are no counterexamples. None.

Secret Service? Capitol Police? Home garrisons in Washington? None of these will be immune to the threat--or especially the reality--of starvation and deprivation. Do any of these rich fucks really think their entourages and courtiers or "guardians" will remain compliant? They may know how to make money--but they know basic human nature less. Let the Maoris have at them. I'll donate a pitchfork.

They're thinking:

Siouxsie and banshees -Monitor

Monitor outside
For the people inside
A prevention of crime
A passing of time

They come and they go
It's a passing of time
They come and they go
Whilst we sit in our homes

Sit back and enjoy
The real McCoy

Our new air of authority
Our sentinel of misery

His face was full of intent
And we shook with excitement
Then the victim stared up
Looked strangely at the screen
As if her pain was our fault

But that's entertainment
What we crave for inside
No more second rate movies
From those people outside
Monitor outside For the people inside
A prevention of crime
A passing of time
A monitor outside
A monitor outside

They come and they go
It's a passing of time
They come and they go
Whilst we sit in our homes

Sit back, sit back, sit back

They're not thinking that in the event of collapse, money will be worthless; that, as stated by others say, their guards and servants will have no reason to feel loyalty to those who destroyed society/the economy/the planet and that all survivors will be out for their blood and their supplies.

But if they were thinking creatures, they wouldn't be doing what they do to need the concept and belief of the possibility of a safe haven away from the wreckage they're knowingly creating out of pathological greed.

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

I don't do Facebook. I have an account to sign in to comments on rare occasions. Don't have any Facebook friends and don't want any:

I got an ad for Ring the other day:

Any improvement or the same old same old?

Software that lets you engage in both Voice like a conference call and also has a real time chat room window.

all that is required is some free software and a Headset and microphone.

You set up whats called a "whisper key" which you push when you want to talk (I have mine bound to a button on my mouse) so that there isn't constant background noise, such as people typing, coughing excetra.

I guess the best description would be that it is a 24/7 place where people can just go to B.S. or discuss stuff like political action, meetups, etc in a less cumbersome form.

What is especially cool is for those that don't have a mic or just don't like to or can't speak they can still participate in the conversation via the text chat window.

If there is enough interest I would probably set up a Discord Server. It is probably the easiest for the user and is free for them (It's not add driven, they make money mostly from hosting services I believe).

It could be an interesting thing to beta and while it is built for gamers I can think of several ways that it could be useful for political action, building our community, etc.

Also, unlike FB, etc you can totally do it anonymously and if you utilize a VPN with considerable security and privacy as well.

Are any of the options Free and Open Source (FOSS)?

FOSS offers a potent advantage to communities like c99p: you can't have your license pulled because the corporation vending your software disapproves of your politics....

Chances are good-to-excellent that you'll get Linux up on those boxes without incident! Most modern Linux distros do the necessary adjustments automatically.

Just make sure your selected distro matches the bit width of your processor (32 or 64 bits, usually) and you should be OK.

Please let me know how it goes!

Usually use it for playing SMITE, but I haven't played that game for a LOOOOONG time.

If a server gets set up, I'd happily chime in sometimes. Hell, might be a good podcast starting point, if we feel like going that route.

I heard this was an old Maori saying, but haven't been able to verify it.
I agree it is stupid to arm the people one step away from your stores. Just like I think it stupid to stockpile 50-100 thousand rounds. Shelf half-life is what, five years? Who in their right mind wants to eject every other or third round in a fire fight, not to mention being ankle deep in hangfires that can go off at anytime.

Online meetings . . . sounds like what my son does with his xBox. Homeschooled for 4 years, at 16 his best friends are a Vietnamese kid in Seattle and a kid in Jersey who's parents grew up in the Dominican Republic. He communicates with kids from all over the world.

What is the Linux/OpenSource solution? I am almost 20 years a Linux geek. Would like to see us use Moodle on the side for increased capability when developing resilience plans.
