I will say this one last time
The sense of entitlement, exceptionalism and sense privilege contained within a perversion of the American Dream has reached its logical conclusion.
Reading this story - another version of the MSF Kunduz war crime:
The US military says it carried out a deadly air strike on an al-Qaeda meeting in northern Syria and will investigate reports that more than 40 [56 recent report] civilians were killed when a mosque was struck in a raid in the same area.
Jets struck the village of Al Jina, in Aleppo province, on Thursday at the time of evening prayer when the mosque was full of worshippers, with local activists saying up to 300 people were inside at the time of the attack.
The actual probable target:
"The US military is saying that they conducted an air strike in Idlib province and that this air strike was not targeting a mosque but a meeting of al-Qaeda members. They are saying that the confusion might be because the meeting was held about 15 metres away from a mosque but the US military is saying that the mosque is still standing.
The excuse that will be used by one and all [bar a few]:
"Even if we did and I am not saying we did, we didn't mean to"
Collateral damage, I feel like vomiting every time I write those words combined.
Whenever anyone else does the same, we become the most devout of god's servants.
Of course we meant it:
We are at war with a country that none of our representatives in congress can even be bothered debating or actually authorizing for that matter, just use an outdated AUMF and bomb.
We are at war with groups of "terrorists" we by and large created by our recent and historical actions in the region. These same terrorists are often funded and supplied by our supposed allies in the region.
The timing, we know the hours of worship.
We are the good guys, we didn't mean it! Move on, look forward.
At home
We allow the rich and the powerful to asset strip our own country without hindrance. Hell many will even fight and die for their wars overseas. This is empire building. Geopolitics nothing more, nothing less. That people die and starve by their hundreds of thousands, that millions lose their homes and countries as a consequence, this is our right, we are the good ones.
Then they fling the absurd line of "why do they hate us" once "they" have lost everything.
I use "we" because in the end some responsibility trickles down to those that voted or not and saying "not our president" is not a coverall excuse based on party allegiance. Both parties are completely responsible for the current situation and past historical decisions. I noticed how compliant many democrats became as soon it was "their" President leading the maiming and murderous wars.
We didn't mean it. He's not our President. If only you had voted for "our" Imperialist Kissinger loving choice instead. If you don't agree with us, you are either Un-American or the currently popular Russian!!!.
Now going back to my first line:
The sense of entitlement, exceptionalism and sense privilege contained within a perversion of the American Dream has reached it's logical conclusion.
Donald Trump is that logical conclusion, all rolled into one odious ball. He is the perfect President to represent what America has become and that has nothing at all to do with Russia!!!. A spoilt rich brat in charge of a brat of a country, perfect.
When people in other countries ask "how can Americans be so stupid" when they elect yet another spoilt brat, they haven't been following the plot is my opinion, we have become/are a nation of brats. Just watch our spittle flecked excuses for debates, watch our infotainment programmes [as if you had a choice, our propaganda is everywhere]. We will proudly sell our Oligarchy as a democracy and desperately try to "win" the next elections so that we can gerrymander to our side of the duopoly's advantage. What difference will this make to you foreigners? Not one iota of real change.
The US has not grown to being the most powerful Empire and sole superpower on earth by hazard. It has taken the full concentration of the Oligarchs duopoly decades to get to this point. Vote for either, then you are part of the problem. The cost in blood and misery of building this empire? Not to be discussed, we are the good guys. God bless America.
The tragedy?
The end of an Empire is always extremely messy and when one of this size fails the tragedy will be truly global. The driving factor for this tragedy, Global Warming/Climate Change.

I can barely make it past the headlines, feeling guilty. Where is CNN and MSblahblahblah? ABC? Anyone? Bueller? I agree with another comment that said it should be on TV every night, like Walter Cronkite and Vietnam, explaining to the masses WTF. omg this is progress, wishing for blood on TV? oof
Thanks goodness for LaFeminista, and others here. Cheers

We have sanitised war so as not to offend ourselves.

I am done killing the messengers but go on
I happen to agree with people saying it is the US military and government who are the terrorists sometimes. See my interruption below for illustration purposes.
Thanks
The Kagans are messengers that needs to be killed.
This is a family of death and destruction.
@CB
It's confusing for them to try to remember what term to use for terrorist groups which become valiant 'rebels' when being given aid and comfort by the US.
And anyway, 'revolution' - bringing to mind the American Revolution - became a bad word after Bernie used it to describe a peaceful process for the people in taking their country back from the suicidally destructive, murderous Parasite Class, so it can be used either way, even if only they may know what their perceptions are at the time of use, in case deniability is needed.
Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.
A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
This will end sooner
The US economy has reached a point of system instability. The debt-wealt-debt-wealth cycle has reached the point where the rich are sucking way too much income out of the economy and our unsustainable debt burden is their wealth. Hair President is going to accelerate us right over the cliff. He is in the process of cutting useful government spending and increasing useless military spending. No only is military spending inefficient, but its product is useless. Worse, using its products causes unlimited blow-back, in lives, infrastructure and dollars. It looks like we may have destroyed the EU in part because of the refugee issue. So, Mr. President, lets cut spending on social programs and on the environment to spend another $55 billion on the war budget.
My prediction is that our economy does not survive the four years of a Trump Presidency. I think that this community should start to focus on the aftermath. How do we build a nation that believes in social justice and is totally averse to war? We can't get there unless we have an economic collapse. Recent events should make us completely aware that the establishment will never use their powers for the good of the people, and will never step aside, even if they can't win elections. The Democrats have become a permanent, useless, minority party, who refuse to reform and refuse to step aside.
Capitalism has always been the rule of the people by the oligarchs. You only have two choices, eliminate them or restrict their power.
A good book written for the interested lay person is
There is so much waste in this system. The USA spends $1 Trillion on advertising, a waste. Insurance in the area of delivery of health care services is worse than a waste, it's parasitical. We can do better, and much cheaper, with Medicare For All.
Big Finance also produces nothing of value to society and causes bubbles which burst and beggar the wage earners while the arbs go free to cause further havoc.
As you point out, the military & intelligence agencies(all 16 of them) produce nothing and make life abroad and here much worse.
"The justness of individual land right is not justifiable to those to whom the land by right of first claim collectively belonged"
I'm not a financial genius
Idolizing a politician is like believing the stripper really likes you.
The Wizard,
your statement is so concise and so clearly right. I can only add one thought. I used to think federal bankruptcy would put war out of business. But it hasn't because, as I understand it, the Federal Reserve keeps printing money for it. I may not understand this correctly, but the Federal Reserve prints money and gives it to banks which lend it to our government for deficit spending, which increases our debt. I believe we were at 4 Trillion in debt under George W. Bush and now are at 20 Trillion after Obama. As long as this system is profitable to the weapons industry, the PNAC extractive and murderous industries, and to the banks, which charge us interest on all that debt, this will continue to be done.
We have to begin to file criminal complaints against our government, because as long as it's essentially "legal," because no one stops them, they will continue to do it.
As I have posted in the past
We must work outside the the corrupt system.
Credexit.
Eventually, y'all come around.
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.
Does that mean paying off your debts first?
or just exiting, blowing off the shitty credit report? It's hard to escape from credit slavery.
Beware the bullshit factories.
Yes paying off your debts
Classic bait-and-switch. Same with cable (no more commercials!), and the debit card (just like cash!).
And for those of you so moved, it's in the damn Bible, no usury!. Same with Islam. All the major religions prohibited usury. Only the Jews had a basterdized version of no usury to other Jews.
Aristotle, Plato, even Einstein were vehemently against interest bearing credit.
Einstein; "The most powerful force in the universe is compound interest".
I'm open to suggestions.

For Americans
war has not become so sanitized as much as it is out of sight. Most people that I talked with during the four and a half years with the Peace vigil had zero clue that we were bombing in seven countries or that one million civilians have died in Iraq as a result of our attack on that country.
Very few Americans even know someone who has served in combat. War is very remote and foreign to them. It is happening in places overseas with strange names. Very few people even know of the weekly drone strikes or that 90% of the people killed in them were not even the target. Americans are ignorant of these facts because they are not available via the mainstream media. And this is done on purpose.
If nothing else, the sheer cost of these wars is the one thing that does get people's attention. The moral issues much less so. We have lost our moral compass in this country. What goes around comes back around. I dread that day.
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." ~ President John F. Kennedy
And the Cost is conveniently...
Media throws a huge spotlight whenever one of the American Royalty gets killed in action (celebrity), but the circumstances are always finagled to make it look like they're heroes, even if they've been shot by their own side.
I find it hideous that part of the Military budget goes to making propaganda films about how glorious war is. (Wish I was kidding. Occasionally they fuck up and release an honest film, but most of the time the military is pretty good about editing in their own brand of bullshit.)
That may end up being the one way we finally bring war into the spotlight. Make the Celebrities fight in it. No exceptions. If you make over "X" dollars a year, OR are featured on TV for a certain amount of time (I'd say 3 months), you directly benefit from the war, and as such must fight in it. If you already HAVE, no sweat. If you haven't, pony up!
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
16 years since the invasions of Afghanastan and Iraq
For what? Oil I guess. 9/11 provided the excuse. I think it all boils down to getting oil out of our lives.
Beware the bullshit factories.
9-11 is but one excuse there are a couple of others worth
Spreading Democracy - as if it was manure.
Women's rights, only to be used when all else fails to convince, to be mumbled about if some of our allies in the region are standing close by. Once upon a time of ToP I had that one thrown at me as a justification in blind support of Obama, women's rights had zero to do with it. Nothing at all to do with
Afghanistan and Kazakhstan may become new global centers of rare earth metals’ production
Wherever in the world there are resources,
there have been concurrent American 'interests'. The US became the richest and most powerful country by coveting and militarily pillaging the world's treasures since the birth of the nation, all the time hiding behind the guise of "freedom", "democracy" and even that obscenity of "God given right".
The entire planet has available 1.9 hectares of biologically productive land per person to supply resources and absorb wastes. The "American Dream" requires 9.7 hectares to satisfy its consumption. I don't think the average American is willing to give up their portion, at least not without a fight. It will become Walmart Black Friday on a global scale.
Interesting dates. I don't think it was simply a coincidence:
Why do a few greedy parasites get to own the Earth's resources
Those rare earth metals were made billions of years ago and Exxon / Mobile had nothing to do with the dinosaurs that made the oil. We're sick.
Beware the bullshit factories.
The American people do not experience war.
Our knowledge of war is limited to the stories we are told about it. War is not a real thing for Americans -- it is a movie, or a news headline, or a book, or a television show. We do not feel the slippery blood of war with our fingers, or see the mangled bodies it scatters, or smell the death-stench of it, or hear the screams of the people caught in the middle of it.
Americans know nothing of war. Our total ignorance of it, our innocence and naivete, is a blessed thing, we are told. That we are able to have others killed, and not be killed ourselves, that we need not involve ourselves with the messy business of killing, or even pay much attention to it... these are considered to be a very desirable conditions. They are thought to be consequences of our strength and virtue, consequences of a hard-earned and well-deserved superior status, a status that must be maintained at all costs. So we are told.
And this we believe, by and large. To remain indisputably more powerful than any other nation on earth, has come to be something of a national purpose -- and a prerequisite to anything else we might attempt to do as a People. America and Americans have largely embraced the age-old logic of empire: To survive and prosper is to expand and to dominate. Our objective is to keep the battle lines as far away from home as possible, and always pushing outward.
native
Mass murder.
The U.S. is illegally conducting airstrikes in Syria, kills 50 plus Syrians and injures over 100, and tries to say it was a mistake?
How can people believe this at all?
There's no mistaking the fact that Trump and some of his staff are war criminals now. There's no going back which means they must go forward. I think Pluto's right, it might be time for an antiwar movement.
Past Time...
The utter hypocrisy of the US in the world is unfathomable.
I want a Pony!
Numbers are interesting things.
Fifteen meters, . . . almost 50 feet. Football players out there, imagine the distance you need to go to get a first down, that's 30 feet. You think you'd be safe from a bomb landing just beyond that?
Everyone else, look at your own homes. Is yours more than fifty feet long? Let's give the military geniuses some credit and assume they used a "smart" bomb for this. You've seen on the news the footage of those homing in on their targets. If the military sent one of their precious (and I mean that in their cost to taxpayers, too) super-accurate bombs in your home's back door, do you think anyone standing near the front door might be injured?
The military knows the stats on their bombs' targeting accuracy and their blast radii. They take those stats into account when they choose targets. The mosque was hit because it was deemed by these military geniuses that it was acceptable to hit it. The dead were intended to die.
That's called "Danger Close"
Sorry, for those who don't know, I served in the Artillery with the 3d Armored Cavalry. There's no excuse for firing that close and claiming that they didn't know damn well that there were going to be a large amount of casualties.
Nothing pisses me off more than those who won't own their violence. I have owned what I did during the war, and have accepted that my actions were the responsibility of the officers placed over me. Passing the buck when YOU GAVE THE ORDER is the height of cowardice.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Perhaps it was a "double-tap"
when Chelsea gets out in a couple of months.
Thanks to Chelsea Manning and Julian Assange, I know what a double-tap is. Disgusting. Let's have parades or somethingI am so fucking glad you survived in the Artillery with the 3d Armored Cavalry detroitmechworks, right on. Troops Home Now! that's what I say. Every last one, plowshares or some better future please. Thanks.
Peace
Worst part of all is...
Essentially, plant 2 bombs, then detonate the second when the rescuers show up. They claim it's an attack on "Non-combatants", but then they redefine anyone killed by "terrorists" as a non-combatant.
It's the most foul kind of double-speak. Anybody we kill is legit, anybody THEY kill is non-legit.
They leave out the truth, that war is terrible, and anybody who is killed in it is a tragedy, and a life cut short. A military is at BEST a necessary evil, and one that should be used sparingly, when all other options have been tried.
I totally agree. Bring them Home NOW. But then I have many ideas about what the military SHOULD be. (Currently Armchair Historian, but have enough experience to make my views slightly more informed, IMHO)
Course, I need to laugh at the Army now. A decent Army, though.

Chris Hedges explains the US dance of death
Here's the first paragraph of his recent article:
http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/the_dance_of_death_20170312
The ruling corporate elites no longer seek to build. They seek to destroy. They are agents of death. They crave the unimpeded power to cannibalize the country and pollute and degrade the ecosystem to feed an insatiable lust for wealth, power and hedonism. Wars and military “virtues” are celebrated. Intelligence, empathy and the common good are banished. Culture is degraded to patriotic kitsch. Education is designed only to instill technical proficiency to serve the poisonous engine of corporate capitalism. Historical amnesia shuts us off from the past, the present and the future. Those branded as unproductive or redundant are discarded and left to struggle in poverty or locked away in cages. State repression is indiscriminate and brutal. And, presiding over the tawdry Grand Guignol is a deranged ringmaster tweeting absurdities from the White House.
Pretty accurate description. The whole piece is worth the read. I'm sorry to read your news of our bombing of a mosque....we have become what we say we hate.
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
Or culture is considered actively "Racist"
I'm sick and tired of the MSM deciding that only very specific and narrow interpretations of culture are acceptable. Essentially, if you can sell it and package it, it's acceptable (See: St. Patty's Day. They don't even frickin call it what it is anymore) but if you can't slap a sticker on it, it's racist. (See: Greek Mythology, Norse Mythology (Unless it's MARVEL THOR!), British history, and anything else that doesn't currently bow at the altar of Mammon.)
Yes, I'm annoyed at it, and tired of being told that my interests are "Problematic".
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Sssnakes
St. Patrick and the Snakes
thanks, more than Hallmark. To me a snake symbolizes healing, ouroboros. Circle of life. It is a positive thing. Aunt P told us a secret years ago, after March 17th the word virgin did no longer apply. Such a scandalous secret from strict Catholic upbringing! By the time I popped out there were no more baptisms occurring, I'm the only freak with no religion.
Judge Griffin was my maternal grandpa, he escaped the Irish Famine by emigrating to California, who am I to pull up the ladder now? Hungry :)~ I am the last female Griffin, after me this branch is dead.
I always felt that gave me rights to bitch about everything, ha ha! I know this is Pomo land I live on today, before that Miwok. Those are the only two territories I ever occupied here.
There's a gold pin of Lizzie M.'s from 1889, it came to me on my 21st birthday. It needs somewhere to go, along with other stuff. Dead family tree branch is strange thing to be on. I guess why I'm dumping all this personal crap on c99 lately (pardon the psychobabble) is because I feel so close to the edge, not long for this world. It is okay to make peace. Thanks all for having patience for blurts. Let the miracles commence.

Isn't that what Chris Hedges says in this speech as well?
Chris Hedges: The Enemy Is Not Donald Trump or Steve Bannon—It Is Corporate Power (Video)
This a long speech and no transcript, but I heard it in the first third of the speech already. Have to listen to it in full later. ... I listen and I like to make a transcript of it.

Liberals serve a gatekeepers to what is accepted
First, look to the way Naomi Klein's "This Changes Everything" was handled. The subtitle "Capitalism vs The Climate" was declared by the NY Times reviewer to have been drempt up by a PR person to boost sales because a serious person like Klein would not mean that. The NY Review of Books, which has reverted to is default position of neoconzionism, declared the book was flawed beyond redemption because of the impossibility of changing the global system. Other reviewers were less coherent but equally protective of the small space allowable for discourse.
To finally address your point, certain terms are used to shut down debate and marginalize those who persist in telling the truth. See Chomsky as an example. Clinton and her handlers used the full gamut of put-downs, "racist" being just one. The argument over a rational health care system is a good example: The accepted line of arguments ranges from "let them die" to "let them bankrupt themselves while Insurance and Big Pharm rake in the profits." Sanders operates on the edge and may be trying to widen the conversation(more power to him) but social control over health care is said from the corporate media to be dead.
"The justness of individual land right is not justifiable to those to whom the land by right of first claim collectively belonged"
They hate us for our freedom
to kill their granddaughters and grandmas. Our freedom to strip mine their nation's wealth. Our freedom to topple their gov'ts and carpet bomb their infrastructure. Long before collateral damage reaches 90%, the damage is no longer collateral.
What does it say of a society when a couple grams of a chemical to save a child's life costs $1000 and a couple grams of lead to destroy that same child's life costs a dime? When millions are relegated to a life of painful misery followed by early death so a handful of billionaires can finally get a Billy Bass for their 400 sq. ft. tarpaper shack? When the cost of feeding the world's poor and hungry is instead spent increasing the military to create more poor and hungry in the world?
I agree, LA Fem. I've said for over a year the world is quickly reaching a perfect storm of tipping points: ecologic, economic, politic, and ideologic. It's going to get damn ugly darn quick!

The Delusion
The American people pride themselves upon their assumed intellect on the understanding of topics. However, that level of hubris matches their utter ignorance on the topic they believe to supposedly know.
This isn't via political stance; in essence, patrons of both parties believe it.
I hear people praising Trump for increasing the military budget for 50 something billion. Why? Because Obama gutted the military, we are so weak we can't defend ourselves.
The sheer shock of that gets to me. 650 billion dollars and we're so weak? In their eyes, we can't defeat ISIS with 650 billion dollars? I mean, ISIS has roughly the same amount of military forces as Somalia. You need 650 billion for Somalia? There is no fact checking, no reason, just blind devotion to whatever garbage is spewed repeatedly over and over again. We could cut our spending in half and still be the strongest. Just boggles the mind.
They could cut it by 20% without noticing but cutting

"Did the US really bomb a mosque?
Check out this article, it's what I was thinking this morning when I read about this but didn't have time to bring it up. For those that don't know, the SOHR, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, is a blatant western propaganda source, well documented. He usually reports on Syrian and Russian "war crimes" so the reporting on a possible US war crime was interesting. Brandon Turbeville of Activist Post had the same questions, i.e., what's up?
