The Man Democrats Fought Like Hell Against Replies To Trump

The official Democratic Party Response

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRt-Ay6tj4U]

Make up your mind which one actually dealt with the important issues in detail.

The Official reply was such a dreary folksy fluff piece and spent most of its time on the ACA whereas Bernie's reply went line by line over nearly all the issues. BTW Bernie, Trump was not the only one to miss completely talking about-

Climate Change and Pollution
Crazy Military Expenditure and foreign wars.
The Prison Industrial Complex.
Rampant Income Inequality
Education and debt.
Social Security and Medicare.
etc

My opinion is that the Democratic Party doesn't really care about these issue since they don't believe they will get votes and often helped create the swamps problems anyway. That's why they chose Hillary and lost and will keep on losing. To be honest Trump's seriously flawed speech was better than the Official Democratic Party's pathetic reply.

The Republicans are crazy fringe representing the rich, religious cultists, and the crazy. I expect that from them. So does the .001%, which is why they supported Hillary.

Democrats are supposed to be an opposition party. When you say me too and refuse to fight, it makes them sell outs and traitors to the American people who are trapped in this two party WWW extravaganza. Because they aren't doing the job of providing an opposition party, they are killing the planet and the future for our children. This pisses me off at them and all of the Hillary/Obamabots that entitle them.

PS - Bernie's response was awesome. It reminds me of what we lost, and it pisses me off that he folded like a tent to Obama and Hillary. The damage Obama and Bill did in office was bad enough. Now this snake Obama is creeping around in the weeds still manipulating the party he destroyed. When they stole the primary from Bernie, I resolved to vote D down ticket but never for President again. After what they've done since Trump won, I resolved to never vote D again.

@dkmich If both parties are corrupt, it kills democracy. It kills the possibility of the masses being heard in any way.

That's why the corruption of the Democrats is worse. It eliminates a fundamental check/balance. We cannot cope with more than one of the parties being corrupt at once, especially when they're both conniving with the most powerful people in the private sector. That's the opposite of checks and balances: concentrated power.

@travelerxxx After taking time out putting this essay together, I couldn't stand to watch the ex-governor of Kentucky beyond about 70 seconds. It was a campaign speech with the first brag about balancing the budget (gop talking point). This compared to Bernie who jumps right into it, and not going into a self-aggrandizing political resume, but into protecting the foundation of the New Deal and welfare of current seniors, and those to come.

I expected Trump to be the same bombastic, narcissistic, disgusting, lying, slimy, smarmy asshole he's always been. Unfortunately he didn't prove me wrong. I didn't even watch his speech to congress. I literally cannot stand it, and I've been diagnosed with hypertension (high blood pressure) -- which, coincidentally, I just started having about 6 months ago ... hum -- so I'm working hard on all the lifestyle changes I need to bring it back down to normal without going on medication. That means, among other things, not watching or listening to what Trump is saying or doing. At all.

However, I did enjoy Bernie's response speech that you posted. I still love him, or rather, I love what he's saying and that someone is saying it. I only wish he'd call the dems out too, but in this case, as a response to Trump, it makes sense I suppose.

Anyhow, my BP was good this morning, it seems my home program of reform to a more healthy lifestyle, and reducing my anger and stress by not watching Trump or politics right now, is working. Whew. Last thing I want is to get on the pharma train for any reason. Avoiding that is my top priority at the moment.

I wish Bernie would go indie and start a new party that actually supports the things he talks about. Sigh.

If they have anybody worth a tinker's dam running the effort, and if Bernie were to lead the charge and not merely "sign off" as an endorser, the number of Dems, Indies AND Repubs joining will be breath taking.

The situation has evolved markedly. In some cases, it's become terminal.

I was really surprised the other day when I sensed that the people had simply sailed away from the Democratic Party and it was unthinkable that they would return. That choice ceased to exist in this cosmos. I can't imagine what's going to happen, but I know what's not. That Party will be voted into oblivion all because of a couple of fateful election decisions.

The Party may sense it, too. That may explain their grand Russian obsession.

For some reason this didn't happen to the Republican Party.

@Cassiodorus by the two party system. Until recently Bernie was outside of both [I regret his joining into the duopoly]. I will say it again that on the national stage we have to put up with what we have until from the grassroots up another party starts winning at local levels, it requires decades of dedication especially in the current situation. Until everyone that thinks that they can change the DP from within discovers that in fact they cannot and joins in with people like me that says "fuck the DP" then the system will remain as it is.

Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal's picture

@Cassiodorus I'm afraid that Sane Progressive's objection to the Justice Democrats would hold for us as well: if we're going to start a new party, we have to deal with election fraud and the obstacles, both legal and criminal, to getting the people's choices elected. I'm not sure how to do that. And if I did have an answer to it, I would be worried about saying it for all to hear, given that we are, basically, in an asymmetrical war for control here, and that if I had a way to stop the rigging of elections--say a digital countermeasure--I sure as hell wouldn't want the establishment to know what it is.

Not that I have any such thing--I'm just pointing out the difficulties of even starting the discussion. But the discussion must be started, because I don't think any one person has a perfect plan in their back pocket--we must use/gather together all the intelligence and creativity we've got to have a hope of coming up with a way to take power away from the currently powerful. Simply starting a party won't do anything, because with all our best efforts, we will be prevented, by fraud if no other way is apparent, from taking a majority.

That doesn't mean that I oppose creating a new party; we obviously need one. But we're not at the point where forming one would mean anything. We just watched the media lie and declare a winner based on delegates that hadn't voted, and it was accepted, and we had no recourse. Before we try to use the electoral system again, we have to figure out how to make it work for us.

"No Issues, No Politics"

Sorry about bringing up my same hobby horse, Bruno Latour, my choice for most important thinker in the world

This article is from 2003

Abstract

Political enunciation remains an enigma as long as it is considered from the
standpoint of information transfer. It remains as unintelligible as religious talk. The
paper explores the specificty of this regime and especially the strange link it has
with the canonical definition of enunciation in linguistics and semiotics. The
‘political circle’ is reconstituted and thus also the reasons why a ‘transparent’ or
‘rational’political speech act destroys the very conditions of group formation.

First two paragraphs

Complaints about a loss of interest in politics are heard all over.1 But what if
the famous ‘crisis of representation’ stems simply from a new misunderstanding
of the exact nature of this type of representation? As if, in recent years, we
had begun to expect it to provide a form of fidelity, exactitude or truth that is
totally impossible. As if talking politics were becoming a foreign language
gradually depriving us of the ability to express ourselves. Could it be possible
to forget politics? Far from being a universal competency of the ‘political
animal’, might it not be a form of life so fragile that we could document its
progressive appearance and disappearance? This is the hypothesis that I would
like to explore in this paper.

The idea can be formulated simply: by attempting to explain politics in terms
of something else, we might have lost its specificity and have consequently
forgotten to maintain its own dynamics, letting it fall into disuse. To retrieve
the invaluable effectiveness of political talk, we need to start with the idea that,
as Margaret Thatcher so forcefully put it, ‘society doesn’t exist’. If it does not
exist, we have to make it exist, but in order to do so we need the means to do so.
Politics is one of those means.

Have we lost the skill of politics?

Alligator Ed, the surgeon who posts here, was a philosophy major and has trouble with Latour so if this is a stretch, I understand.

BERNIE IS RADICAL BECAUSE HE BROUGHT ISSUES TO THE TABLE.

And he is about forming collectives to deal with the issues.

To retrieve the invaluable effectiveness of political talk, we need to start with the idea that, as Margaret Thatcher so forcefully put it, ‘society doesn’t exist’.

We've certainly neglected politics by refusing to evolve the Constitution during the Age of Enlightenment and beyond.

Perhaps politics got bored and left the room.

Trump's plain language (I infer from Bernie's response) makes it clear what he intends for people like me and like the Vet on the street with whom I exchanged meaningful glances yesterday. We are (in our own separate but equal ways) to simply go to hell. You see Trump is borrowing a phrase my dad used to use, "He isn't worth the power and lead it would take to blow him to hell."
