Hey, it's songday. I pick a song that I believe warrants it and publish an assortment of the covers of that song by various persons and or groups. Pick a few that are new to you and have a listen. It is also, of course, an open thread to talk about anything you feel like.
Today's song is: Candyman
Mississippi John Hurt
Donovan
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Hot Tuna
Reverend Gary Davis
Jorma Kaukonen
John Fahey
Steve Earle
Jerron Paxton
The Grateful Dead
Little Feat
Bob Dylan
And now for something completely different
So, the thread is open, the floor is yours'.

I never knew that the term "Never Again" only pertained to
those born Jewish
"Antisemite used to be someone who didn't like Jews
now it's someone who Jews don't like"

Thanks for the Hollies, and for dropping by.
That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --
saw the title and was worried it was Sammy Davis Jr
and when I say "worried" I mean "concerned" rather than "terrified", although if I'd heard Sammy's song I might have crossed over to the latter.
Good to see/hear the Orbison. As for the others...now why didn't I already know those? Thanks!
I cross post this, and in my other post somebody posted a
Primus cover of the Sammy Davis Jr. version - verrry strange indeed. IIRC, Reverend Gary Davis is his composition/arrangement of a trad, which many cover, while Mississippi John Hurt is at least semi-original, which many also cover. Naturally, there are blends, mixups, mashups and whatever, plus the Dead's inspired twise. Orbison's version makes 3 and Sammy Davis 4. I think there may be a fifth, too.
