Alpha's Election Night Survival Thread/Live Blog. Now with useful tips!
Well, I just went and voted (Stein, couldn't bring myself to break my pledge to not vote for evil, even to stop Clinton.)
Some interesting anecdotes:
My wife went to vote right after she got off work this morning. She arrived about 20 minutes before the Florida polls opened. She reported that there were only about a dozen people in line and by the time she was done voting there was no line whatsoever.
I decided to wait and go closer to peak time (shortly after 5PM when I figured people getting off work would be arriving to vote) and there was zero line. I walked straight up to the person, surrendered my mail in ballot and then got my approval slip to pick up my ballot. (Was excited to see that my #DemExit to the Green party had already been registered!!! Woohoo!!
On my way in and out to the polling station there was a pair of large black signs with bold lettering saying, "No political advertising, signs, or electioneering beyond this point.
Can you guess what was directly in front of all four signs just past shy of the limit?
4 Trump/Pence signs.
Nowhere in the ride towards my polling place (at a church in a rural neighborhood) I saw ZERO Clinton signs.
Not a one.
About 15 Trump signs on the side of the road and on peoples lawns. (I was somewhat happy to see a couple, "VOTE GREEEN!" signs but only a couple.... Upside? That's a couple more than I saw for Clinton.
Ok, Now for the survival part of this guide.
On my way home from the polls I decided I needed to pick up some necessary supplies for the evening and the morrow.
For our first survival item we are featuring our good friend Alcohol. Ahhh, that stalwart companion that has helped me not give a shit about things in the past, if only for a short time, is going to make a strong entrance tonight I think no matter the outcome.
Now, as I was pretty sure that even that wouldn't be enough to quite help us get through the evening I had to break into my emergency supplies and bring out the big guns. (One of which you can see on the right side of the screen in the previous photo, however tonight is already necessitating the bringing out of the big guns...)
However, I fear that even with the above it may not be enough to get the job done so I have the following two items. First, one to pour into my eyes so I don't have to see that smug, arrogant evil smile if she manages to steal pull off a victory.
And a couple of these to jam into my ears so I don't ever have to hear her voice again:
(Maybe I can sue the manufacturer for not putting a warning label on those things... But then again, since that's me even if I win I wont get shit, lol!)
Well, I invite you to join me below, share the things you are seeing on the net and in R/L, and tie one on.
First hit is free...

Heh!
There was a dark moment last night when I thought about it, but quickly came to my senses. Felt good to vote Green this morning.

Yeah, I feel like there has been a burden lifted from my...
shoulders.
I know that no matter which assclown wins things are not gonna be good, it's just down to a matter of degrees.
I gotta admit I did come damn close to filling in that oval next to Trump. Hard.... For about 5 more minutes once I actually had the pen in my hand. It was hovering over that oval for a solid 3 of those 5 minutes.
I didn't vote for a single down ballot democrat. Rejecting their party means rejecting those that carry water for them as well no matter how good they may actually be simply because by putting them in even if they manage to win just places them in a party that will either corrupt or marginalize them.
Fortunately this was an easy choice for me as there was not a single down ballot Democrat worth voting for here in Florida in my district.
For the first time ever I left any section of the ballot blank that did not have a either an independent or green party candidate.
Florida is RIPE for a third party, Half the damn Republicans running were unopposed! How is that a vote if there is only one name on the ballot for that office? This just proves that the Dems are not serious about taking things down ballot any lower than the house.
I think we are gonna need a lot of humor tonight, some of it may get dark even, but its laugh, cry or go and choke some asshole out.
I'm gonna try to go with laugh.

Hey Alphalop
Glad you created an Open Thread for Election Evening.
If you take the hastag (#) off of your Open Thread tag, the essay will appear in the Open Thread section at the top of the right-hand column. Makes it easier to find the thread.
ElenaCarlena showed me that today. So Hattip to her.

Alphalop - just reminder.
When the thread gets bigger than 200 or so comments, please start a new one. It will help the server to work faster and help people with old computers to participate.. If you one one long mega thread for the whole night, imagine the effort involve for just ONE refresh.
Thanks,
So far the guardian map has Hillary losing to Trump everywhere. If Trump wins, I will cry becausehe won and cheer because Hillary lost. Talk about bipolar...

I haven't read the essay yet, but I'm guessing the FIRST TIP is to not watch the returns... amirite?
As the polls close here, I'm headed to join a friend at her yoga class. I'll pick some dinner on the way home. With any luck, it will all be over by the time I get back (it sure was over that quick in 2008...)

Oh, dear - an election day shooting not far from where
I grew up. Am thinking still not a good idea to watch anything live... that place was a bump in the road rather than a town when we used to drive through it. Pretty much it was a dinosaur museum and a gas station, if I recall. There was a big ranch nearby where clothing was apparently optional.

What essay?
I made up for all of you, I DID vote for President Trump. And, surprise - he's doing very well in western MA. A friend just drove up from CT, and was STUNNED to see how many Trump signs on the back roads, no Clinton signs.
Also expect Soros & Co, David Brock, Podesta have already figured out how to manipulate the machines. We vote with paper ballots & pencil here.
I can't bear the thought of watching or listening to a talking head, so what's the best way to learn results online.
Thanks.

I am not sure from your previous post or not if you are a Trump supporter, but if so I would just like to add that while I don't support your candidate I find him preferable to Clinton.
If not, I admire your fortitude to "Take one for the team" to try to block the Democrats. I really did go back and forth on doing so myself for quite some time.
Regardless, all are welcome here and I am happy that you decided to join us.
"I used to vote Republican & Democrat, I also used to shit my pants. Eventually I got smart enough to stop doing both things." -Me
Dog no, not a "supporter" - yuck!
Just desperate to do what ever I can to get rid of the Clintons. Wasn't difficult to use the deep dark graphite pencil and make an X in the box next to his name. Figure more will vote Jill, which is wonderful & I hope we get way beyond 5%, but sad it won't hurt Clintons as much as a vote for Trump might.
Thank's for explanation - we still use these beautiful hand blown dichroic glass pipes. Recreational in our case. But know so many who are getting tremendous benefit from larger amounts, and another place on our paper ballot which got a LARGE X next to legalize. So many friends with PTSD, and side effects from chemotherapy now also really benefiting from using it. Can't understand the "argument" against legalization, and frankly, don't have the patience anymore to even listen to it!

KY: 68.5% Trump 28% Clinton 2.3% Johnson
NH; 52.5% Trump 41% Clinton 6.6% Johnson

Re: Vermont
I went to Vermont's SOS website. They are only showing candidates who are on the ballot.
https://vtelectionresults.sec.state.vt.us/Index.html#/federal
But they DO show the number of write-in votes - they just don't say who they are for.
Right now 43/273 precincts reporting. Total write-in votes 3,855 or 6.50% of total votes cast.
6.50% (I assume the mass
majority are for Sanders) is more than all minor parties combined
There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know.
Jill Stein
Jill Stein is on the ballot in VT.
I wrote him in.
Still stunned at the lack of support for Jill ...
KY is supposed to go red, although so far they have 1% of
the vote recorded, not including Lexington or Louisville at all, which usually are the blue areas. It should tighten up considerably. So far Jill has 0.5% of the vote, even Evan McMullin is beating her, argh! Hopefully that'll improve a lot too.
But New Hampshire surprises me. Didn't they vote Bernie?

I've been to the Maker's Mark distillery.
It was 1994. We left my in-laws at some museum or historic place in Louisville and took off to the distillary. The road was clearly marked and we found our way there. We were surprised it was a back road, very rural, but very populated.
We enjoyed the tour and headed back. Well, that was our intent, easier said than done. The road was not so clearly marked coming back. It was a twisted road with many forks and ways to go. We had to get directions many times.
When we finally got back, the historical place had long closed and my in-laws were not very pleased.
We are still happy we went, though! The drink looks yummy!

When the first Podesta emails came out
I was so livid, I told my son that I was going to vote Trump. He was like sure, Mom, go ahead if you want to. But no, I couldn't do it. I voted for Jill Stein and Robin Laverne Wilson (Green for Senator), and Yvette Clark (Congresswoman Brooklyn) in the Working Families Party column. I am putting my demexit in the mail on my way home. Not much satisfaction, but a little bit.
I spoke to a coworker today who told me that she had voted for Clinton because she was terrified of Trump. Then she asked me if I knew anything about those emails people were talking about. She was literally shocked when I told her that I had read many of them and asked me isn't that illegal?
Jeez, people talk like they’re living in pre-1989 East Germany

I have to work tomorrow, so I will down a 6 pack of beer, think deep thoughts, avoid tv, stick to c99 for news.
In some mood of despair, I have gone vegetarian today. Fresh broccoli, corn on the cob, sliced vine ripened tomato, fresh baked bread...like, I don't want to add to the bloodshed.

I have lots of friends there that I am always chatting with via skype and whatnot, and they drop that word like we do ass. As in He's an Ass, has the same impact to us as Cunt does to them.
Personally I almost NEVER used to use it, but when you spend hours talking with people you pick up their colloquialisms, and I was chatting with a buddy of mine here and called him a silly cunt and both he and I did a double take.
Then we both started laughing because he knew I didn't mean it in the American way, and that almost made it funnier.
However if that is not the case I am not gonna have any ill will for your choice to use it, I hate word policing in general, even when it goes against my personal preference. (Not that I feel strongly about this in any event.)
Still got a thumbs up for me because I can get 100% behind the sentiment if not the word.
