Washington Post makes history

The Washington Post, the very same paper that set some kind of record by running 16 Negative Stories on Bernie Sanders in 16 Hours, has managed to find a new historical low never before seen in American journalism.

Three of the four media outlets that received and published large numbers of secret NSA documents provided by Edward Snowden — The Guardian, the New York Times, and The Intercept –– have called for the U.S. government to allow the NSA whistleblower to return to the U.S. with no charges. That’s the normal course for a news organization, which owes its sources duties of protection, and which — by virtue of accepting the source’s materials and then publishing them — implicitly declares the source’s information to be in the public interest.

But not the Washington Post. In the face of a growing ACLU and Amnesty-led campaign to secure a pardon for Snowden, timed to this weekend’s release of the Oliver Stone biopic “Snowden,” the Post editorial page today not only argued in opposition to a pardon, but explicitly demanded that Snowden — the paper’s own source — stand trial on espionage charges or, as a “second-best solution,” accept “a measure of criminal responsibility for his excesses and the U.S. government offers a measure of leniency.”

In doing so, the Washington Post has achieved an ignominious feat in U.S. media history: the first-ever paper to explicitly editorialize for the criminal prosecution of its own source — one on whose back the paper won and eagerly accepted a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. But even more staggering than this act of journalistic treachery against the paper’s own source are the claims made to justify it.

Click on the link to read the hypocrisy of their reasoning.

What has happened to the Washington Post? It was once a respectable newspaper.

Better info on Drudge, Fox News, and even the National Enquirer - if you want to read news. Even reading the National Review now too. Another world. Never, really, never thought I'd read anything at those sites - they even now mock WashPost, NYT. Don't know what we'd do without The Intercept, RT, and Thank the Goddesses for Lee Camp.

Speaking of a strange world, did anyone read what Kos had to spit out about Her Heinious today. Almost funny...haven't read their in weeks, not missing anything.

Please do - I don't want to go there! Heroic of anyone to do so, and much appreciated, just not up to it myself just now.

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

How she's out-spending Trump by millions but her lead keeps slipping. I couldn't resist a reply that will probably get me banned. Not that I care. He needs to look in the fucking mirror.

Thanks! Almost would be tempted to check out your reply, but... too much like the old joke about not wanting to retrieve a quarter from an outhouse hole and dropping in a $5 bill to make it more worth it... anyway, your reply has likely been flagged into invisibility by now.

Is that money can buy elections. It is all about who has the most. But if the money is not spent wisely (her commercials are horrible), or the candidate is irredeemable (Hillary), then all the money in the world ain't gunna move the needle.

Most of the ones I know and myself included, we are very active. I have had a computer since the early 1980's and helped many family members get started online. I get very current news from Twitter and for the rest I read newspapers and Harper's Magazine.

There are not enough hours in the day to accomplish all that I want to do.

If I were an American, I would vote for Jill Stein and I've never seen her on tv.

It's become very difficult for me to read WaPo, and not just because I refuse to pay for the outgassing of RWNJ columnists. If one really wants to understand the public face of TPTB, WaPo is the best resource available. WaPo pretends to be conservative, when under further examination one can detect a great deal of fascist-tinged reaction. Their editorial against a Snowden pardon is but a small example.

Considering that financial stability is a claimed priority for this "news" outlet, I keep searching for opinions desiring frog-marching Wall St. banksters into the dock. I might as well wait to join a foursome of Judge Crater, Amelia Earhart, and Jimmy Hoffa for a rubber of Bridge. I'd get more satisfaction.

Vowing To Oppose Everything Trump Attempts.

Take-no-prisoners monopolized capitalism, where the state and the corporations become symbiotic, is the entrance to Fascism. That the US has entered fascism is a known and accepted reality among Europe watchers, since Europe itself has gained some presence in far right European politics. When the US Neocons toppled the democratically elected Ukraine government and installed a Neo Nazi government — I think that is very telling for geopolitical analysts. It also defines the NATO of recent decades.

Poking Russia with Nazi operatives on their border is an act of desperation on the part of the US. Russia has successfully ignored US acts of war, like sanctions, and followed to the letter Agreements like Minsky II and honored the human rights universally established at the UN, including the Right to Self Determination for ethnic minorities established centuries ago in Ukraine.

Russia is about as far from political Fascism as one can move. I notice there's a confusion surrounding this in the US. Repression can happen at either end of the spectrum and shouldn't be mistaken for Fascism, which is far more exploitive of the people and uses them to pay for the irresistible quest to conquer and rule the entire world, depopulating wherever necessary. Under Fascism, government exists to benefit the corporations, not the people. People are disposable because they massively over-produce themselves, burdening the world. Despite their rabid nationalism (USA!, USA!, USA!) even their own citizens are throw-away people. Ballast.

There are always specific agencies in Fascist governments that look to be rogue, operating without oversight outside the law. The new Ukraine government is rife with these. These same agencies are the ones that produce all the highly classified government documents. They successfully hide behind "state security." In this way, the Neocon Brotherhood is unstoppable.

Actually, potholders are probably what's best to wear when most of your campaign consists of calling the other corporate party's kettle black.

Well, other than ignoring Nusrah Front, i.e. Al Qaeda while they behead everyone in their path. Give praise to the 'White Helmets' which is nothing but a Nusrah Front propaganda front, ignore all Islamic Groups we, Qatar, SA, and Turkey support, they have been spot on.
