Robert Reich Bites the Dust, Finally Goes There

He apparently could not help himself. Sure, he was a Former Clinton Admin official.

In the last couple of years when he became involved with grassroots political activism over FB and at TOP, decided to give him another chance, then was happy to see that he endorsed Bernie, explained many issues in a way that a broader public could understand them. Critic of the status quo Dem Party and surely a thorn in the side of the DLC.

But now, like Bernie, he seems to have gone back to supporting 'Lesser Evilism.'

May I have a word with those of you Bernie supporters who consider Donald Trump to be no worse than Hillary Clinton? It’s a point of view a number of you have expressed on this page, and it's dead wrong.

As I said when I endorsed Bernie for president, I view Hillary as enormously qualified to be president of the political system we now have. She is smart, capable, and experienced. I endorsed Bernie because I thought he would help create the political system we need. But Bernie will not be the Democratic nominee. That does not mean the end of the movement Bernie advanced. That movement was never about Bernie; it was about reclaiming our democracy and our economy. And that movement will live on, and it will grow. It needs your continuing activism and your tenacity.

You are, of course, entitled to support anyone you wish to. But if you don’t get behind Hillary you increase the odds that Donald Trump will be president. That would be a disaster for America and the world. Trump is a menace. He is not just unsuited to being the president of the United States – a bigoted narcissist who incites and excuses violence – but his presidency would threaten everything this nation stands for: tolerance, inclusion, freedom of the press, equal justice, and equal opportunity. It would make it far more difficult ever to achieve the progressive goals you and I share.

What do you think?

See what he did there ? Is it CYA from a former Clintonite who knows what they do to those who challenge them?

Read post here that Nader thinks Sanders 'endorsement' of HRC has set the party up for more exposure and more people deciding to leave it for an alternative. Maybeso, maybeknot.

Yeah yeah yeah, I know you don't do Facebook.
Guess what, I haven't lived in a home with a TeeVee since the 60's. Fun facts, huh!

But if you do use Facebook, if you have some spare time, would like to suggest going there to read some very excellent rebuttals to Reich in the comments to that post, which are in turn, of course, piled on by the Hillary Supporters with all the tired old arguments, tribalism, etc.

Nice try Robert Reich, trying to make this about fear of Trump. Good to see that your own supporters did not let this go unchallenged.

It used to amaze me, the incredible number of ways to cheat American voters which were devised for use by corporate Republicans - corporate Dems are no different. It's the pathological corporate culture and the immense money and power accumulated, typically by the dirtiest, which enables this - although insane fortunes and power levels are never, somehow, enough for those controlling public policy...

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

However, respect doesn't equate to blind faith. He is free to vote as he chooses, and others will do the same. If he really wants to stop a Trump victory, he'll turn his attention toward the establishment Democrats that are about to make the biggest mistake in modern political history. The more he ascribes to this zombie-like, lesser of two evils talk, the more I tune out.

In 2016, the Left is not a palm tree that sways in the breeze. It is an immovable object, like a mountain, unwilling and unable to be pushed, no matter what the circumstances. It's amazing how much the Democratic Party does not understand the anger and frustration in this country right now. The more they try to force Hillary on us, the more we refuse, like Bartleby the Scrivener, replying "I would prefer not to."

If our voting for Jill Stein is going to cost Never Hillary the election then aren't they wasting their vote on her?

do understand the anger and frustration of the American people, but have no plans to propose anything that meaningfully address it--is simply to keep the Base in the veal pen. (IMO)

No matter what he has to do.

IOW, he'll produce videos, try to win confidences by endorsing the most left candidates (including Bernie), etc. Then, he'll do what he just did--launch into a LOTE screed.

Whew!

Where have we seen this movie before?

Wall St. et al wanted Bush, Hillary and at varying times a couple of others (Christie later changing to Rubio, if I recall correctly) - want to bet that Trump gets replaced by Bush, for that Bush/Clinton 'choice' nobody else wanted to see? Me, neither... makes me see Green, all over. I hope.

Hillary herself will destroy any possibility of anything truly progressive ever happening. She will not only destroy the Democratic "brand" but will ensure that everyone in this country sees just what Democrats really do - blatantly rig elections, sell out the working class once again, sign trade deals gutting our own sovereignty, and continue the endless wars and environmental destruction. She will make it so that NO truly Liberal progressive thing will ever happen in this country along with her Repugnant buddies. And if she should lose, why we either get the idiot Trump, or someone our Congress chooses when Trump decides he'd just rather not really take on such a really big serious job but would be happier with his new TV show, "America the Idiotic" airing nightly on your favorite Corporate channel.

He has all the bad qualities of Trump but he's intelligent and capable.

My only doubt is in the field of bigotry. I haven't heard any statements from him about the "Muslim Problem".

[Yes, I know. But with Trump, it's an appropriate reference.]

Didn't that little weasel Ryan give him a big thumbs-up? (I was going to write something more rude but it made me thrown up a little).

If Ryan's out there talking up Pence's "movement conservatism" creds, doesn't this bolster the ticket among the base? Unless, of course, they're ALL in on the fix and the intended result is just the opposite.

Trying to make sense of this shitshow is giving me a headache. I need a drink.

He pushed a law to legitimatize business bigotry and another to stop abortion all in the name of religious freedom. He is much worse than Trump. I'd rather see even Gingrich as VP.

conservative.' (Remember, he's even to the left of Dems on a few issues.) My understanding is that he really didn't want to select Pence, since he is closer to a couple other of the contenders.

We thought that Governor Mary Fallin (Oklahoma) might be a good choice--she's basically a corporatist Dem, which would please the Republican PtB.

From what I've heard from pollsters, though, Trump's Campaign isn't that concerned with the 'women's vote.' I suspect that if it's true that they will address WJC's philandering (with, or without video) at the RNC Convention, they figure they can peel off enough right-leaning women, not to have to worry about minority or lefty women.

IMO, if Trump wins, it will likely be because he will turn out huge numbers of men who've not voted in several election cycles--so-called Reagan Dems--and, the huge evangelical voting block.

One of the largest churches (congregation-wise) in the entire state borders a property of ours. They've had organized late afternoon and evening meetings--first 3 nights, then 5 nights per week, phone banking and going door-to-door for Trump since he was declared the presumptive nominee.

If the conservative Christian voting block becomes energized--like they were during the Reagan years--I could see them handing FSC her patootie in November.

Especially, if FSC picks Tim Kaine as her running mate. Ugh!

[Edit: Changed to patootie.]

sig line says it all. Double speak of the worst order. It's insulting to those who cannot think double. At this point in time their political lies are so obvious they just dig their unbelievable fear riddled hole deeper.

Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable,
and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.

I bought a book he wrote called Why I Write about 6 years ago and did not read it. I found it the other day while cleaning up my bookcases and have finally started reading it. It's a really good non fiction read about why and how he started writing. Pretty inspiring to read for a blogger.

well, you know, we'd all love to see the plan.

I endorsed Bernie because I thought he would help create the political system we need.

The Political Revolution is not about Bernie. It's not about a $15 minimum wage, stopping TPP, reforming law enforcement, single payer, or publicly funded college (though all those are desirable outcomes).

It's about reforming the political system so that we can reach a critical mass of elected officials who want to and can implement all those policies in the face of opposition by big business, big empire, and the wealthy.

So the relevant lesser-evilism for this election is "who will be more effectively obstructionist to reforming the political system?". That's something Clinton will be enormously effective at, whereas Trump won't be effective at anything.
