OK so what's going on?
Yesterday I received an email pitch from the Sanders campaign:
When we began this campaign a little over a year ago we were considered to be a fringe campaign. But over the last year, I think that has changed just a little bit.
As of last night, we have won 22 state primaries and caucuses with more than 11 million votes.
What we understand, and what every one of us has always understood, is that real change never occurs from the top on down, always from the bottom on up.
That is the history of America. Our fight is to transform our country and to understand that we are in this together. That is what OUR movement is about.
The struggle continues. We are going to fight for every vote in Tuesday's primary in Washington, DC, and then we will bring our political revolution to the Democratic convention in Philadelphia.
Say that you will continue to fight for the progressive future our country needs by adding a contribution to our campaign today.
Meaning no disrespect, Senator Sanders, but what's the money going toward? Shouldn't we get to know that BEFORE we pitch our hard-earned dollars at you? In the NYT we are told:
Senator Bernie Sanders plans to lay off at least half of his campaign staff Wednesday as his battered presidential bid continues despite Hillary Clinton’s being declared the presumptive Democratic nominee, two people close to the campaign said Tuesday.
Many of those being laid off are advance staff members who often help with campaign logistics, as well as field staff members who have been working to garner votes for the senator, according to a campaign official and a former campaign staff member, both of whom spoke on condition of anonymity.
So if they're pitching me for money, who's being hired? (We already know who's being fired.) Lawyers? Sanders' projected team to pitch for Clinton in the upcoming election? We can only wonder. Here's a curious news bulletin from left field:
The Justice Gazette reporters and others are conducting an investigation into voting irregularities and the theft of Bernie Sanders’s apparent California landslide victory by those supporting Hillary Clinton. According to popular actress Frances Fisher, a lawsuit is being prepared to require the counting of all the provisional ballots. If this lawsuit is successful, the actual vote count is expected to become known and Sanders will likely have a landslide victory in California.
There it is, folks. News so hidden from the public view that we need Frances Fisher to tell us what's going on. Is there a real lawsuit?
Meanwhile according to ABC news Sanders is set to meet with Obama, who says: "Battle With Bernie Sanders Made Hillary Clinton 'a Better Candidate'." This is, of course, nonsense -- as a candidate, Clinton won through influence-trading and election fraud while operating safely within the confines of the Democratic Party, and the question at hand is one of whether or not Trump, who only defeated fifteen rivals on the way to the Republican nomination, is any worse. So why's Sanders meeting with Obama? Congratulations, we cheated, you lost, welcome to the team?
Oh and then we can read Bill McKibben on the pointless platform-drafting effort:
Climate activist and Vermont author Bill McKibben, one of the Sanders supporters on the drafting committee, said he'll push the Vermont senator's ideas as the committee crafts the platform, which will get a vote at the convention.
“I think it’s got to be one of the vehicles for uniting people in a common effort against Donald Trump,” said McKibben. “There are millions and millions and millions of people who (Sanders) brought into this process. So it’s good to see those views represented so far here.”
I can hardly wait for the next five months of Bill McKibben touting the vast benefits of having a President who will do nothing to mitigate climate change, over a possible President who's a climate change denier. Yep, let's all unite for Hillary against the Donald, and never mind the pointlessness of the whole affair. Why did we do this anyway?
I'm beginning to feel good that I didn't bother with phonebanking or door-to-door pitches for Sanders. I'd have felt like just another liar, touting the benefits of a democracy that isn't there. (I did donate money, and I did vote for Sanders. Somehow that felt less embarrassing.) But there's still the bigger question to be answered: how do the Sanders folks run a motivating campaign for more than a year, and then completely forget about the public's reasons for participating?

Here in central NY, the next Lake over is already saltier than the one below me, due to salt caverns below. Yes, the good life, Marcellus shale, salt caverns, brine incursions, fracking, storing liquid natural gas and propane under the lakes in old salt caverns for energy use for the NE US, what could possibly go wrong?

It's been clear cut and mined, but at least it's elevated. A little TLC and your grandkids may have some shade to rest under or even a tree house with a swing. This post is only a lil sarcastic. I've honestly been thinking of buying some land as a retirement place and planting tree. Unfortunately, however much a bargain, it still costs $$$$ that I don't have in my budget.

Hillary and Trump are two political manifestations
of the US oligarchy, both running for POTUS. So the point is to vote outside the box, not whether to hammer a sixpenny nail or eightpenny nail in the coffin of democracy.
As Jimmy Carter said last year, the US is "an oligarchy with unlimited political bribery,"
If Sanders openly endorses Hillary, I will think that he is compromising his lifelong principles. I don't know why he couldn't make a pitch for Jill Stein instead of Hillary.
There's no way to tell if Green Party votes will spoil the Dems more than the Repugs.
Trump will have to sponsor a lot of coup d'etats as POTUS to beat Hillary's record.
Sanders' Endorsement
If Sanders doesn't endorse Hillary his influence in the Senate will be greatly diminished. We need him there to restrain Hillary. It is likely there will be the highest number of progressive senators that we've had in years. When Hillary shifts back to the right we need all the leverage we can get.
Sanders will return to the senate, with renewed not, diminsihed
Political clout
And that is because he will return with the support of MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of people behind HIM.
People who are wide awake and watching the democrats... And who, will not be silent if they slide back to the center...
The lasting beauty of Bernie's revolution is that he has awakened the real sleeping giant.. The American voter. Hopefully the staus quo candidate will not'put voters back to sleep.
Orwell was an optimist
Honestly, I doubt an outright endorsement will come from Bernie.
I think he will meet his pledge to do everything to prevent a Republican Presidency by instead actively campaigning against Trump.
Something I think that both fulfills his obligation and that we can all get behind in spirit.
I imagine that if Bernie hasn't already considered this approach himself someone in his camp has.
I am pretty sure he generally avoided saying he would endorse her from the beginning and deliberately stated his words with this exact intent in mind.
Bernie has integrity, and I doubt his personal integrity would allow him to actively endorse and campaign FOR her. I think the above scenario may be the most likely one, but then again wtf do I know, I'm just another asshole with a keyboard, lol!

There it is, folks. News so
Not sure if this is what you're referring to, but I saw a video about a lawsuit the other day on the home page of trustvote.org. The video is a pretty long press conference but very informative. (Sorry, I tried to insert it under the video URL but I must be doing something wrong.)
I felt a glimmer of hope when I watched it, but I honestly don't know if it will come to anything.
Very interesting link
The poll results published in it are suspicious to say the least.
Volunteering to work the polls is something we should have done enmasse this primary. No point getting out the vote if the party is just going to steal it.

This is something we absolutely need to keep in mind for future
elections. I agree 100%.
We need to find out how to go about doing so in each state and maybe create a site "Sticky" or FAQ on it.
We absolutely need to be prepared for 2018 and 2020.

Cassi, you can choose to be cynical if you want to.
But as far a I'm concerned, you can be cynical by yourself. The rest of us are looking at the closest thing to real change that we've seen in our lifetimes. Some of us have been waiting a long time.
Neither candidate has enough pledged delegates to wrap it up. It will be a contested convention.
Now is the time for Bernie to work the superdelegates, which is what he's doing. He will see Obama and Reid today. He'll probably see Pelosi soon. I imagine he would like to meet with the entire Progressive Congressional Caucus in the House. He might want to meet with the rest of the Democrats too. He will also want to talk to his fellow Senators, individually or en masse.
All this is work and it's work that only he can do. We can't be part of it [although I'd LOVE to hear what is being said].
The point is, Bernie's still working. He still has his eye on the prize. And it's what, 6 weeks before the convention? A lot can happen in 6 weeks.
Life is strong. I'm weak, but Life is strong.
You've got to ask the hard questions
if your participation in democracy is to be real. Bernie would respect that.
The ruling classes need an extra party to make the rest of us feel as if we participate in democracy. That's what the Democrats are for. They make the US more durable than the Soviet Union was.
I agree, Cass
And I don't have a problem with the questions. I have a problem with a certain kind of cynicism, but I don't find it evident here in your essay. Well, maybe just a whiff of it
But my problem with that certain kind of cynicism is something I don't fully understand yet, and I'm gonna need to write it out to understand what I'm thinking. I hope that doesn't sound crazy!

I agree that hard questions need to be asked Cass...
but there is a difference between a hard question and a leading one, which any attorney will tell you.
Judging on the content of your "Questions", they seem to be more in the second catagory and I am starting to wonder what your actual agenda is in asking them.
They don't sound to me like they are for the good of the discussion and the cause, as they seem to be more like you are attempting to throw a wet blanket on the fire.
I really try to always think the better of people's motives, but I am becoming somewhat suspicious of yours.
If I am wrong, I apologize in advance, but if I am right then I suggest you save yourself some time and just roll on, the people here are pretty immunized to such tactics after our time at the GOS, lol!

No that wasn't what I was saying exactly...
As you may remember I am loath to call out people for being "trolls" based on my erroneous defense of one earlier in one of my essays, but what I was trying to impart was that the impression Cass was putting out was awful similar to those, "Why are you stupid berners contributing to Sanders" posts and diaries at TOP that we encountered so much.
I wasn't the first to notice this, and tried to be careful to hedge my words with the disclaimer that I was likely wrong but wanted to communicate the perception that I and many others were getting.
I apologized in advance and I will apologize again, I have no problem with admitting when I am wrong, and that I probably could have elucidated my point in a better fashion.

featheredsprite, it's been reported today, that Bernie will not
be seeking the votes of the superdelegates.
IOW, because of the Tuesday loses, the letter that Bernie had ready to send to them, will not go out.
This is according to reporter Chris Jansing (CNN). She says her source was a campaign staffer.
What they say he will do (at this time), is that he will proceed to the Convention to fight for his policies to be included in the Dem Party Platform. And, of course, he will finish the primary contest, including the D.C. primary. Bernie will be in Vermont for the next 2-3 days, instead of on the campaign trail.
Now, I suppose 'anything can change,' but that was the latest reporting that I've heard since Bernie's meeting with the Prez, etc., earlier today.
(And, if someone has information that disputes this, hey, please let me know. I heard this at approximately 1:00 p.m. this afternoon.)

Everyone thinks they have the best dog, and none of them are wrong.
I would still be dubious of such reports given that CA is not
actually over and the likelihood that even if he doesn't have enough provisional ballots to win it outright (Which is still a strong possibility) he will at least close the gap to the point where his arguments to the SD's would still make sense.
Particularly with what is looming with the FBI, not to mention the Voter Fraud lawsuits, etc. In Politics a month is a lifetime, and we got more than that between now and the convention and a LOT can happen.
I can't imagine that if Obama when he spoke to him, said, "Throw in the towel cause I am gonna make sure the FBI doesn't finish before the convention." that Bernie wouldn't immediately be calling a press conference to announce the fact that he was told that.
I could be wrong, but hey, I really do TRUST this man, not because he inspired me in the last year, but because of his record over the last 50+ years.
I think Bernie will stay in it as long as he feels he has some chance of victory, and I am not giving up on him, or us, yet.

not sure I'd rely on analysis from mainstream media
we all forget: Sanders has been very very clear that he was NOT going to concede and he was taking the campaign to the convention... i believe he's been saying it since he realized it was unlikely Clinton would clinch the nom with pledged delegates.
Sanders is a good strategist and he sticks with his plan. So don't be misled by establishment pundits.

Which is why we always take the MSM with a YUUGE grain
of salt. She needs 2383 total delegates. She has 2100-something pledged delegates. There are less than 100 pledged delegates to be awarded in DC, so she cannot win enough without supers. Likewise Bernie, of course, who has less than 1900 pledged delegates. So Hill has the majority of pledged delegates and so far the supers mostly say they support her. But the supers do not vote until the convention. Should something happen in the meantime - such as an indictment - all the supers can switch their support. They did so in 2008, when Hill had about 100 more supers than Obama until the convention, but then they switched because they decided to accede to the will of the voters. There are about 600 supers, so if they all switched to Bern he would have over 2400 and would win the nom. Big if, of course. But he may be meeting with all these establishment Dems because they are the supers, and he may be talking up how much independent following he has, how much more liked he is, and by how much more he beats Trump. And maybe even what a disaster it will be if Hill is not indicted until after the convention and the party ends up with a criminal for a nominee.
Please check out Pet Vet Help, consider joining us to help pets, and follow me @ElenaCarlena on Twitter! Thank you.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Sanders & Obama Meeting
Obama endorsed Hill in video today, saying something like: she's the best person I know for the job. Sanders requested today's one hour meeting with prez. Sounds like he's giving up but says he's still in the D.C. primary and will work to elect Hill and defeat Trump. Go figure. Don't know WTF's going on or why Bern isn't demanding an LA recount and voter fraud investigation. He seems totally defeated. How Obama can go full-throated in Hill endorsement while the FBI investigation still ongoing is insane. Plus the State OIG found her guilty as sin and the Repugs will go after lying traitor Hillary bigtime. I feel like Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter is running the show but didn't invite me to the tea party.
Right!
I really can't figure why people around here think nothing's changed. We still have to wait for an explanation, but the very real possibility looms that we're on our own here.
The ruling classes need an extra party to make the rest of us feel as if we participate in democracy. That's what the Democrats are for. They make the US more durable than the Soviet Union was.
Things have changed, but we are not alone here.
He is no longer "in the running" so to speak, but he still needs to gather his supporters to him to have a strong showing that can not be ignored. Because he is not alone, either, anymore. He has been gathering us to him. He has been busting his ass on the campaign trail and calling attention to issues his colleagues have ignored for 30+ years even as he was like a prophet in the desert (empty chambers) warning them of the long term consequences of their actions or non-actions. But his plans post-campaign may very well be different from ours and may--to a certain degree--be out of his hands.
He signed a pact with the "devil" (Dem establishment) to run as a Dem candidate and to be a Dem afterwards, which if I recall correctly, he said he would be. He did this to magnify his (our) voice on the issues that so desperately need attention. I've no doubt that he will honor that pact. But rest assured the basic morals he has demonstrated are the same as before the campaign, during the campaign and will be after the campaign. That pact may lock him into more officially aligning with the Dem establishment, but it will not silence him on the issues anymore than he has been silent the last almost 40 years. He will be a thorn in their sides.
His opinions will not have changed, if anything they will be more emboldened as his voice has been magnified by almost half of the Democratic party. And he has your money (the only language the establishment understands) to wield even more influence and to support candidates that align with our shared morals.
We, again, have signed no pact. We have our own voice, we will however need to raise it.

I think that
we need to work with the assumption that we are on our own - if it turns out we are not then that's bonus territory.
The Sander's campaign showed that the people who benefit from the system are not going to work towards destroying that system - that change has to come from the outside in and from the bottom up. Many of us now feel as if we are not yelling into a void anymore. That was an essential first step.
“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” -Voltaire
Did Bernie say he was out
or you just repeating the various Hillaroid shills? Can't we at least wait until the convention to give up?
I am hardly a shill, just trying to reassure everyone
who are wondering what was the point, and what next, and feeling alone...That even if Bernie's plans are different from ours, even if he returns to the Senate as a Dem, he will have our back. And he will be even more emboldened now that we have shown how much support his ideas have.
As for us raising our voices, I plan to vote Green if he is not on the ticket and work for a Progressive/Progressive People's Party. So, no, not a shill just trying to encourage folks.
Edit: this movement does not end with Bernie's choice of a path, it ends with us being discouraged and not seeing it through. If we are so dependent on only one outcome---Bernie in the White House---then we are doomed. Chin up, folks, the struggle continues.

Ooh, good one. I wish I had started sooner. I wish we all had
started sooner. Maybe if they'd received mail from 45% of their members to elect Bernie or they'd receive no more donations, they would have backed off this coronation.

As a retired postal worker I thank you.
Keep sending those postage paid envelopes back, empty if you like. We need the work and USPS needs the revenue. Might as well get SOMETHING from those lying bastards at DNC.
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
Sheepdogs don't stop til all the sheep are in the barn.
I knew there was a reason I always liked them. Thanks Big Al....
for those folksy words of wisdom.
We could learn more lessons than that from our dogs.
Pack loyalty would be another, once we realize we are ultimately all in the same pack.

Pack loyalty
is the biggest problem the dems are facing right now. It's all for the alpha female, and shred any dissenters.
And we look to our alpha male.
We need to get rid of all of this pack mentality, nation mentality, corporate mentality, follow the leader mentality bullshit. That's probably the biggest problem we all face, the root cause of just about all of our problems.
It's one of the reasons I'm here. I don't see as much of that mindset. In the comments for essay alone, we are talking about not being alone, working together, our alpha male leading us so far and the rest is up to us.
That, all by itself, gives me some small hope for the future.
The more people I meet, the more I love my cats.
And I want to be a sheepdog not a sheep.
Hell, I am trying to train my 4th terrierist to believe that peeing and pooping are outside desires. Bell-ringing (supplied) is insufficient. She is a Cairn terrier, currently sleeping on the leather sofa.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
