"The only thing we have to Fear is Fear itself."

What a great line and one that we have forgotten about over time. In light of the terrible terrorist’s attack today, we need to embrace this line and think about how “FEAR” is being used against us every day. To me when you let fear overwhelm you and limit your actions then “FEAR” has won. Life should not be feared and you need to embrace and live well every day.

From The Boston Herald Archives: Report from 1904 on the Early Life of Mother Jones

The correspondent who travelled recently to West Virginia with Mother Jones, and whose report of that trip was featured in Tuesday's edition of Hellraisers, has reminded us of a similar report which was published in the Boston Herald's "Sunday Herald" of September 11, 1904. Hellraisers published part one of that article yesterday, continues with part two today and will republish part three in tomorrow's edition.

From the Sunday Herald of September 11, 1904:

Sorry, sad, sick, state of Illinois

As Chuck Dickens once inked,

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

We have several problems in this state. A devious, deceitful, TeaBuggered Governor who wants to run for president in 2020, a sneaky, lying, nasty bully ruining one of the best cities in the world, financial issues, crime issues, and more. Just a peak at one of our papers says it all.

Lunch Time Reading: Which websites do you read regularly?

Good afternoon. Having just eaten lunch and checked my top 10 websites, I decided to share my favorites and ask about yours.

Of course, now that I try not to enter TOP, C99 and the Reddit Kossacks for Sanders pages are almost always open in my browser (personal devices, not my work computer).

Classic Diaries: Four reasons to anticipate postcapitalism

Author's note: this diary was published 25 September of last year -- still relevant today!

You know, postcapitalism -- the coming period of existence after the capitalist system has run its course, after Bernie Sanders' "political revolution" has outstripped Sanders' current promises, and brought us to a world in which we can actually do something about our situation without dragging around the profits system like a giant millstone?

Walls

One thing about walls is that they are dual purpose. They keep things out. They keep things in. Next time Trump and cohorts enter his place in NYC I suggest we quickly build a wall so he can't come back out. Arrange supplies so they can eat etc. but cut all but emergency communications.

I have too many Muslim friends to put up with these islamophobic attacks.
