The Edge of Extinction?
All week I've awoken wondering if nuclear war has broken out yet. Fortunately it hasn't, thanks to Iran's restraint. But it's not just humanity and the biota at risk of extinction, it is many things...the US empire and its U$D, the nations of Ukraine and Israel may not survive, NATO and the EU sit on the brink of extinction as do our civil liberties, especially freedom of speech. Let's dive into these stories and more below the fold...
Album of the Week 8-10-24
Submitted by joe shikspack on Sat, 08/10/2024 - 3:00pmAfternoon folks!
This week we've got blues albums from Junior Parker and B.B. King, Parker's album along with some cool blues has some covers of Beatles tunes that are quite interesting, especially the cover of "Taxman". B.B.'s album is mostly early versions of some of his classic tunes. After that there's some blues rock albums from Robin Trower and John Mayall (with Mick Taylor), Little Feat's first album and an album from J.J. Cale. Finishing off is an unofficial album of Bob Marley and The Wailers recorded live in 1975.
Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!
Go to ground.

Saturday Open Thread - 8/10/24: Odds and Ends
Submitted by on the cusp on Sat, 08/10/2024 - 7:00amGood morning, good people!
It has been a week of waiting for war to break out. News is rarely ever good anymore.
I have gone hiking, visited a historic site, and will have to wait until next week to post photos.
Meanwhile, I will be in transit until 6 or 7 tonight, and will check in on you then.
Feel free to post whatever came across your radar. The video I saw that I want to recommend is Neil Oliver interviewing Whitney Webb. 1hr.22 minutes. Many topics were covered, all of interest.
The Evening Blues - 8-9-24

I will post a few things that I come across in the comment section.
Friday Night Photos Sport Of Kings Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 08/09/2024 - 5:00pmHappy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.
San Diego has a horse racing track at the fairgrounds in Del Mar but I'm not a gambler so the ponies don't hold much interest for me. In the 47 years I've lived in San Diego I've been to the track a grand total of one time and that was 30 some odd years ago. Last Sunday I made my second visit there when I went with some friends to celebrate a birthday. One of those friends has a connection at the track and was able to get us into the paddock and along the rail for one of the races. It was a fun day and everybody had a great time and even though I didn't bet any money I felt like a winner just for the opportunity to photograph something new and different.
That's more like it
Submitted by soryang on Fri, 08/09/2024 - 4:50pmThis is the kind of thing I expect to see at the Olympics. It's a pleasant relief from the China bashing in the last couple of days with the US falsely accusing Chinese athletes of using performance enhancing drugs.
