It's Day 16 of the Year 2019 CE, meaning that it's January , 2019
The last major election of 2017 happens next Tuesday, and the biggest catch is the governorship of Virginia.
So far this year, there have been 12 violent deaths of transgender people in the United States, and about 30 states still have no laws to protect transgender people when it comes to employment discrimination. And 16 states are debating bathroom bills that would segregate people to use restrooms consistent with their biological sex.
The Democratic primary for Virginia in a few days is the last big election until November. (Unlike the GOS, I don't consider the Georgia election to be significant.)
India Monroe was a transgender woman. The twenty-nine-year-old lived in Newport News, apparently with a male friend, Mark Gray, who was 37.
The Virginia Senate Committee on General Laws and Technology moved two bills banning discrimination forward to the full Senate yesterday.
Senate Bill 783, put forward by Sen Adam Ebbin (D-Alexandria), would ban discrimination against state employees on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. It passed by a vote of 12-3.
Yesterday Virginia's Del, Robert G. Marshall (Prince William) was livid at members of the Virginia House General Laws subcommittee as his plan to remove transgender people from public life in his state was tabled by the Republican-controlled committee.
This past Saturday evening in Richmond, VA, a transgender woman named Noony Norwood was shot. She died in a hospital the following morning. Noony had just turned 30 years old.
Some parents are up in arms in Virginia Minnesota, so much so that they have contacted the so-called Alliance Defending Freedom. ADF has filed another lawsuit against a high school for repecting the needs of a transgender student.
But this one tops the plethora of similar cases ADF has pooped across the country.
The case has been going on for months. It's labeled G.G. v Gloucester County School District, in the interest of the privacy of the transgender student who has none.
College applications and high school graduation are the biggest worries for most 17-year-olds. For Gavin Grimm, it's waiting for the nation's highest court to decide whether he can use the boys restroom.
