December 28, 2017. Cleveland is in a deep freeze. It seems to have come about a month early this winter. The weather service forecasts the cold spell to run for at least another week. I am driving through icy, slushy streets. But it's mostly sunny, though by the rays of a low-arching winter sun. I see one car that looks like it has just been washed. The rest have a road salt glaze.

No War 2017: War and The Environment. Activism conference & more.

Stuff has been dribbling into my inbox from worldbeyondwar.org regarding an upcoming event for months now. Today's pointedly said to forward the information to all and sundry, or words to that effect. The event in question is No War 2017, a 3 day conference. This years theme is oriented toward uniting the anti-war and environmental movements. There will also be an emphasis on Activism

What's Our Vehicle, Baby? (Why We Need One)

I have written in the past, via comments, that if we don't start learning how to prevent the co-option of our movement, we are toast. In addition, we must have a reliable way to get that message out: a vehicle if you will.

All you need do is look at history. TPTB, regardless of party affiliation, seem to always learn from their mistakes because they are greedy sociopaths/psychopaths. Their primary need is to be dominant. Whether it is having more money and/or power than 'name your deity' over those they deem to be less than, we must remember it is their prime motivator.

Selectivity in Trashing Trump

https://consortiumnews.com/2017/01/21/selectivity-in-trashing-trump/

Investigative reporter Robert Parry, the author of this article, broke many of the Iran-Contra stories. He says there's good reason to denounce Trump's crude language, position on climate change, and if he follows Reagan and Bush's failed economic policies. However, he also mentions moving among protesters at the inauguration, and seeing signs denouncing Trump's interest in working peacefully with Putin. In other words, the warmongers were part of the crowd protesting him, too. And now Silicon Valley is up in arms and funding immigration protests (over H1B visas - they want to keep bringing in cheaper foreign IT workers).

But the current danger for Democrats and progressives is that – by bashing everything that Trump says and does – they will further alienate the white working-class voters who became his base and will push away anti-war activists.

Trump, Russia and peace

Bill Gates might have compared Trump to JFK last Dec. 2016, but it's idealistic thinking.

May I remind Mr. Gates that JFK wanted space cooperation with the Soviets in 1963, that was the original idea of the Apollo moon mission, but the rightwing denounced it immediately. They made it impossible. These are historical facts, no fake news here. Don't bother debating me on this if you don't have the facts in front of you.
