Climax Blues Band

Album of the Week 3-9-24

Afternoon folks!

There's a pile of music this week. Starting off with the blues, we've got albums by Koko Taylor, Roosevelt Sykes and one by Bobby King & Terry Evans who are often known as Ry Cooder's backup singers. Ry Cooder plays guitar on the whole album. After that there's an older Climax Blues Band album, imo their best, followed by an 80's Savoy Brown concert dedicated to their hits.

After that we've got some folk-blues with Luther Dickinson & The Cooperaters (you might know Dickinson from the North Mississippi Allstars) live and a Chris Smither studio album.

Finishing up, in the diversity department, there's an instrumental album from Richard Thompson.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the tunes!

Album of the Week 2-3-24

Afternoon folks!

This week we've got Koko Taylor leading off with a late 70's album followed by a compilation of some great Memphis r&b from people that Sun records discovered, most of whom never became famous. After that we have a bunch of blues rock from George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers with a live album, a compilation from the Climax Blues Band in their early years, an early album from DC musicians The Nighthawks and an album from Brownsville Station. Finishing off, in the diversity department we've got a Bob Weir (Grateful Dead guitarist) album from the early 80's.

Have a great weekend and enjoy!

Album of the Week 12-23-23

Afternoon folks!

We've got some Chicago blues this week from Son Seals, followed by some r&b from Robert Ward & The Ohio Untouchables (the Untouchables later became the Ohio Players), after that we've got an album from the Neville Brothers. In the blues-rock vein, there's albums from JJ Cale and The Climax Blues Band. Then for a bit of diversity we've got a country album from Leon Russell, some art rock from Be Bop Deluxe and we finish up with some acoustic folk-blues from The Holy Modal Rounders.

Enjoy and have a great weekend/holiday!

Album of the Week 7-29-23

Afternoon folks!

Well, it's something of a grab bag this week. I didn't really have a plan and these are the records that were clean, ready and digitized this week.

So here we go, we've got a James Cotton Band album from the late disco/soul era followed by a very early Charley Musselwhite album with Harvey Mandel on the guitar. Then there's a Tony Joe White album with his big hit (Polk Salad Annie) followed by a later Roy Buchanan album from near the end of his career. After that there's a later period Flying Burrito Brothers album with Gene Parsons (Byrds) and Sneaky Pete Kleinow on steel guitar. Following that there's a Climax Blues Band album from the early part of their more mainstream success period. Then we've got some alt rock from The Beat Farmers and some rock and roll from Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends (including Keith Moon, Ritchie Blackmore and Noel Redding) with a terrible title track, but the rest of the album is good rock and roll. We finish up with Dr. John performing solo piano pieces.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 6-3-23

Afternoon folks!

It's been another good week for uploading music. This week there's a nice acoustic blues album by Larry Johnson on which he is accompanied on harmonica and slide guitar by John Hammond Jr. After that, there's a nice compilation album of Willie Mabon doing some fine Chicago blues. Following up is some blues rock with the Climax Blues Band, one of their early 70's albums when they strayed less from the blues style than later. Following that is another, my favorite album by Osibisa, a band from Ghana. Then there's some rockabilly with the Stray Cats and we finish up the week with a spacey-prog rock album from Hawkwind.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week - 2-18-23

Afternoon folks!

It's another good haul this week. I've uploaded a late 60's album from James Cotton and a compilation of harmonica player Junior Parker's tunes. The harmonica goodness doesn't stop there though, there's some early 70's blues rock with the J. Geils Band, the Climax Blues Band and Blues Image's second album (the one with their big hit "Ride Captain Ride" on it). Following that there's a live Emmylou Harris album on which she sings a few tunes that she did early on in her career with Gram Parsons. Finishing up is a double album of Vassar Clements, notably with David Bromberg as a sideman.

Enjoy!

Album of the Week - 8-13-22

Afternoon folks!

Well, there's albums by Otis Redding and Chuck Berry. There's also a great album of Albert King and Otis Rush tunes that Youtube mysteriously split into 3 playlists - go figure! Rounding things out, there's another Savoy Brown album and a double live album by the Climax Blues Band.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the tunes!

Album of the Week 7-16-22

There's some great stuff for you all this week. There's a live album by Robert Jr. Lockwood with the Aces, a Clarence Gatemouth Brown album and Professor Longhair (with Clarence Gatemouth Brown). There's some blues rock with The Climax Blues Band, Rory Gallagher and a few tracks from a 1968 Traffic album (there might be more tracks in this playlist later).

Enjoy!
