The Dog Days of Summer

The term 'Dog Days of Summer' was always interesting to me. I never thought it had anything to do with dogs laying around being lazy in the summer but more about sailing, for some reason. Maybe because the term is about celestial happenings? Or maybe I had some vague memory from a Hornblower novel about sailing? Smile

So, why are the hottest days of the year (in the Europeanoid part of northern hemisphere) called the 'Dog Days of Summer'? I wanted to know, and I'm sharing what I found out because it was kind of interesting.

Some principles for political discussion in an election run-up

(Sigh) another election run-up. I really can't stand Trump, and I really can't stand the Democrats. But this is election season, and so here we go. I'm hoping this set of principles can soften the expected blows of election run-up social life a bit.

1. Most votes for President are unimportant.

TRUTH?

Open Thread Image.jpg

Truth is the first victim of war, as the adage goes. Truth tellers are perhaps the first victims of a corrupt injustice system. Julian led the way. Recently Scott Ritter was targeted. Richard Medhurst was arrested as a terrorist in the UK this week for telling the truth about Palestine. Last week Judge Nap was kicked off YouTube for something Pepe said. Tulsi is on the terror watch list. Telegram founder Pavel Durov was arrested in Paris for allowing free speech on his platform. The censorship industrial complex has jumped the shark of late, and narrative control is the goal.

Album of the Week 8-24-24

Afternoon folks!

This week we've got some great blues for you from Percy Mayfield and a compilation of Texas women blues singers with diverse styles. After that in the blues rock category, there's an album from Texas' Doug Sahm and the Sir Douglas Quintet, an (imo) overlooked excellent album featuring Robin Trower and Jack Bruce, a late 80's album from Savoy Brown and a kind of peculiar album from Ten Years After. We finish up with some prog-rock from Gentle Giant.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!
