I really like this because truer words have very seldom been written and Jeff Daniels as Will McAvoy reminds me of the really good newscasters I have known in real life. By the way some of them are not treated very well, but that's for another time and (possibly) place.
The lead in to the monologue does a nice job setting a tone a few years ahead of its time. The Newsroom was a very well constructed series. I suppose it is best that it failed before it could die of the usual maladies of series that overran their viability.
At one time there was at least a community of individuals actually able to work on the things Will McAvoy references in the soliloquy ending with "enough?".

I was a Will McAvoy ... figuratively speaking:
I had the good fortune of being presented (on several occasions) with opportunities to "plain speak" and I (happily) did so. The nightmare is that too many others have not discovered the power to do this themselves.
What is so depressing is that small minded people cannot grasp that taking advantage of these moments only effect small groups of people and only for a short time. Our history is filled with examples of this truth. The fact is if you don't follow in these footsteps, you will never have the effect you might desire. And the you must be many individuals spread across time and space.
At the very least we need to elect Bernie Sanders to try to get moving in the direction of sanity.

This monologue is powerful
Thanks for posting. I saw it several times years ago. So true. Number one? Number one in pre-emptive war. Number one producer of widows, orphans, empty villages. Number one producing refugees. Number one in military spending. Corollary: number one in graft by MIC including generals and congress critters. I am sure that we have other well-deserved number one's but right now my mind is numb, so I will return for more comforting swamp water baths.
